24-year old Benjamin Flores dies in Dallas
Mexican fighter Benjamin Flores died in a Dallas hospital today from injuries suffered last Thursday after a bout. He was just 24 years old.
Flores was stopped in the eighth round. Referee Laurence Cole called a halt to the action when Flores had stopped punching back. Shortly after, Flores lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital.
His career ends tragically short with a record of 19-4 with six knockouts. Flores was a Houston resident, but was born in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico.
Seeger, a 29-year old veteran of the ring from Savannah, Ga., was matched with Flores in a charity bout. Sean Reed at BoxingScene.com did a story on the bout and the horrible conclusion last week.
All we can do is offer our sincerest condolences and best wishes to the family and friends of young Benjamin Flores. May he rest in peace.

We don’t know the details of what happened but it is noteworthy that his happened in the lower weight classes. It appears most recently that boxing deaths happen at the below lightweight level or at least that is the impression that I get.

I always hate to hear this type of news. RIP amigo.
I know this isn’t the best time to discuss Lawrence Cole… but I think he should be banned from refing fights.

I hate the guy as a ref, but news reports indicate the stoppage appeared premature.
