Golden Boy launches monthly boxing series
Here is an interesting bit of news. I know some of you are aware that GBP has fights on HBO Latin America, Daniel Ponce De Leon as the most recent example but now they are comitting themselves to a new boxing series on Versus.
Golden Boy Promotions is launching a new monthly boxing series that will be televised on the VERSUS cable network and streamed live on the internet, beginning on June 11, the Los Angeles-based promotional company announced with series partner AEG on Friday.
The series, called "Fight Night Club", will take place at Club Nokia at LA LIVE across the street from STAPLES Center in downtown Los Angeles and will feature up-and-coming prospects in an upscale and intimate club setting.
The monthly club show will not only be televised nationally on VERSUS (9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT) but it will be streamed live (and archived) on RingTV.com and Yahoo! Boxing, and thus be available to fight fans worldwide in an on-demand basis.
"'Fight Night Club' will focus on the future stars of this game and will show everyone just how champions are made," said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. "Some of the best fights I've ever seen have taken place at small club shows and now we have the opportunity to bring those fights to the world."

yea this could be really sweet. I like the way GB’s thinking here. Basic cable access. Very nice

Something tells me this could be much more interesting than Friday Night Fights usually is.

Let's hope so
But it will probably be more like Top Rank’s series on Versus. Lots of showcase fights for prospects, and maybe a few bigger fights for some of their less marketable fighters.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

Well, let’s see what kind of fighters they schedule before we get too excited.

I literally expect club fights, but without the pretense that I’m seeing world class boxing, like ESPN2 sometimes pretends.

Some of those club fights really do turn out to be closet wars, though (think Caveman Lee – John LoCicero.) There might even be more of those, now that the combatants know they are getting some national exposure.

haha yea
i like when he would make the “ughhh” sounds whenever someone landed a good body shot. that and “crrrrrACKK” during replays.
he was good though. him and albert were a good team. certainly better than the crap commentators of today we have to listen today.
