Kelly Pavlik and Carl Froch in discussions for a fight in 2010

Froch_280x390_780508a_mediumAccording to Fightnews, Bob Arum spoke to Setanta Sports news and revealed the news of a fight between Carl Froch and Kelly Pavlik.

That is absolutely true. Todd duBoef of Top Rank has discussed that fight and yesterday we met with HBO and talked about Pavlik fighting Felix Sturm in the fall; and then early as next year, perhaps as early as the end of January, fighting Froch.

In addition, the reports say that Carl Froch may defend his super middleweight title against Pavlik. It is very well known that Pavlik was ripped apart by Bernard Hopkins in Kelly Pavlik's last attempt to go up in weight, but will this be the same result with Froch?

I think Pavlik has a much better chance than Jermain Taylor ever did to defeat Froch. Pavlik is coming from all angles to dominate his opponent and let's face it, Froch is not the kind of guy to put up his hands and cover himself. Look at the way Taylor put him down before the middle rounds were reached. But Taylor did not pressure him after that assault and the fight went Froch's way. Even though it is a long time before it actually happens, I am really looking forward to this one.

Note by Brickhaus, 06/11/09 2:35 PM EDT - It's nice that this is being discussed, but we'll see if Bob Arum is just blowing more smoke up people's butts.  The fact that Felix Sturm is being mentioned makes me a little weary.  Arum's been talking about big fights for Pavlik for ages now, but he hasn't done much to make a Pavlik-Abraham fight happen, and a number of other good names, like Winky Wright or Anthony Mundine, haven't even been mentioned.  With Pavlik set to sign a 2-year extension with Top Rank, Arum needs to talk a big game to make sure he puts his name on the dotted line.  Besides, if Froch is actually going to fight Lucian Bute next, I wouldn't count on Froch still having his title come 2010.

I think Pavlik would destroy Froch, to be honest. The only way Hopkins beat Pavlik was to go radical, ie- Pavlik was expecting to fight on the front foot al night, Hopkins backed him up for 12 rounds, Pavlik expected to chase Hopkins and throw at will, Hopkins reversed the hunter/hunted roles by coming straight at him and beating him to every punch.

Froch will be able to do none of this. If there is a more one dimensional fighter than Carl Froch out there with even a minor alphabet strap, I’d be surprised. I think Pavlik hits harder, and also has more variety than Froch.

Boxing is the beginning of all sports. I'm willing to bet that the first sport was a man against another man in a fight. (Omar Epps)

Froch-Pavlik

I dont think it would be that much of a mismatch.

I really like and admire Pavlik- i wont miss his fights-but i dont think he been all that outside Middle. The rematch with Taylor was close, some people thought Taylor did enough and we know Hopkins showed him up.
Throw in no hoper Lockett and that lackluster win over Rubio at middle-he won every round but did he look that amazing? Rubio did not want to fight true..but Pavlik should of destroyed him. Thats the Hype.

Froch is one dimensional for sure but he is gritty & determined to test himself against the best. He is a dangerous bloke for anyone. I dont think he would beat Kelly but he wont disgrace himself. Pavlik can be knocked down..anything could happen.

I would prefer this to facing Hopkins or even Bute who can be a tricky fucker also.

Pavlik-Abraham should happen first before this.

When you dream...anything is possible... People can fly. Sometimes theres a moment when you wake and become aware of your surroundings..but you are still dreaming... You may think you can fly but you better not try...
