Klitschko-Chagaev Official?
According to The Ring, Klitschko and Chagaev have reached a deal to fight on the 20th. If this is true, we'll have more updates and analysis. Also, on his ESPN chat, Dan Rafael said that HBO would not carry a Klitchko-Chagaev bout (although that doesn't mean that ESPN, Showtime or Versus might not pick it up on short notice). See the comments to the previous post with details from Zocalo.

wba
chagaev can say so long to the wba belt thats for sure now. this gives them all the reason to strip him of the belt. good for him though, he doesn’t need them and their bullshit.

I don't know exactly how it works
But I suspect that if a ‘champion in recess’ loses, the designation just disappears.

doesn't matter
if he loses, they are going to strip him for not fighting valuev or ruiz.

The alternative
Is that the WBA could make Wladimir “super” champion and Valuev the “regular” champion, which would force Valuev to fight Ruiz again, and give Wladimir 18 months to defend against Valuev.

Klitschko-Chagaev
If this happens and the Ring Belt is up for Grabs who cares?

The fighters do care about these trinkets. It gives them negotiation power for one thing.

ABCs
I agree SC. Its good for most fighters in the sport to make a name and claim. But you know the mess the WBA is in. The others a not far behind. The Ring Belt stands as the flagship belt in boxing. It should have more support.

Obviously Wlad cares
Otherwise he wouldn’t keep paying extra sanctioning fees for an IBO belt that nobody but he seems to recognize.

Would he care about the IBO if they wanted him to face a mandatory that he would not fancy or did not make financial sense? Nope. It will end up under his bed.

The IBO doesn't enforce mandatories
You just need to fight someone in their top 40, and once every three fights someone in the top 10, or something like that.

IBO Rules section 6
“During each successive TWELVE (12) month period after winning the Title, the Champion at the I.B.O.’s sole and absolute discretion may be required to defend his Title in a mandatory defense against the leading available contender as designated by the I.B.O. Notice shall be given to all promoters licensed by the I.B.O.”
Why doesnt the IBO inforce them and only at the champions discretion every 12 months? Because the fighter would drop the belt in the bin. That was my point above. Who cares about the ABCs when you can fight for the respected RIng Belt. Too many belts and rules out there. You know it already Bricky…its a mess.

I believe they were contracted to show those fights…
