Junior bantamweight titlist Jose Carita Lopez (39-7-2, 32 KOs) of Puerto Rico will make his first defense against the Philippines' Marvin Sonsona (13-0, 12 KOs) on Sept. 4 at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, according to Sonsona promoter Sampson Lewkowicz. Lewkowicz, who first brought Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao to the United States, believes Sonsona "is a future star of the Philippines, by far," he said. "Nobody in America believed in Pacquiao when I did, and I also believe in Sonsona."
From dan Rafael's Notebook. Don't worry Sampson, I'm driving this train. People don't know who Sonsona is yet. Expect that to change soon. Too bad his first title shot is likely to be untelevised in the US. If he wins, he would be part of a very select group of fighters to win a title before turning 20.

pacman is my favorite fighter of all time (really he is), so if this guy is just 1/4 of the pacman this guy should dominate

I've heard the name but obviously haven't seen the guy
I remember watching Pac’s first HBO fight on replay at like 7 in the AM recovering from a vicious night out and when he blew away Barrera I was just absolutely thunderstruck at how dynamic he was. Would be awesome to see another talent with half of Manny’s ability.
Gimme 1 round!
Obviously he won't necessarily be the next Pacquiao
But he reminds me a LOT of Pacquiao back when Pac was at flyweight. For those who missed it before, here’s his last fight against former 2-time titlist Wandee Singwancha.

It’s pretty clear that one way or the other, he has a lot of natural talent. Obviously, there are a million places he could still fail. His stamina might not be good. His chin might not be good. He might not have a great heart. He probably doesn’t have the freakish dedication of someone like Pacquaio. But in terms of quantifiables, the raw tools are there.
