Greatest post-fight interview. Ever. Forever ever? Forever ever.

This absolutely needed to be said immediately after the fight. Although the decision was somewhat understandable, I saw a bunch of close rounds that could have been called either way, the scoring was absolutely unacceptable. Investigations need to started into the two judges that scored the fight 118-110 and 116-112. Any scores in the 115-113 range, for either fighter, or a draw would have been fine. It wouldn’t have been right, but at least it would have made sense logically. This decision defies reason. Why does boxing lose fans and is hard for a casual fan to follow? This is why, and if doesn’t change boxing will make jai-lai look popular.

I love and agree with everything Paulie said. He never once talked about Juan Diaz in an ill manner and remained a class act when talking about Juan even after getting robbed. 118-110 is an absolute fucking joke and should be looked into.

Paulie could have easily pulled out of the fight. He knew the cards were stacked against him but he believed in his talent that he could pull out the fight. He showed up sharper than he has looked in a while and deserved to win the fight. If not the fight at least one score card for him.

Yep, I was very impressed with his respect for Diaz.

He can get 4, NOT 5.

Yup

he walked the perfect line IMO between lampooning the judges/administration, as he should, and respecting the town/Diaz/crowd. Very well said by Paulie.

very true

Have so much respect for the way he conducted himself.

Paulie won and is officially my favorite boxer.

Boxing is full of shit and this is why MMA has developed such a following: politics.

Paulie is a class act but I wonder if these comments get him blacklisted.

it’s pretty sad that what he said about him being an “opponent” is absolutely true. that was the sole purpose of this fight, and thanks to horrible judging paulie has to fight prospects on ESPN2 or older dudes who are trying to make a comeback and need a name for their resume.

I think...

… I just became a fan of…Paulie Malignaggi ?!?! Wow. Comin’ at ‘em like Pacino in “And Justice For All” Haha…"YOU’RE out of order!"

And the way he continued to respect Diaz and the hostile crowd, man…class. All the best to you Paulie. Here’s looking forward to your post-boxing career as a commentator. =)

A Better Way

Is there any other professional sport that you can win, and still lose? There’s gotta be a better way of determining who wins….like who’s the bloodiest or take compubox figures and the one who lands the most punches, wins…how ‘bout keep fighting until somebody gets ko’d. Let’s figure out a better way………..what you think?

by Skilz853 on Aug 23, 2009 2:50 PM EDT reply actions

Punch stats don’t always tell the story. Neither does blood. I personally think that judging after 4/6/8/10/12 rounds of action is fine. It’s the judges that need to be re-evaluated.

I wasn’t serious about the blood or stats, but boxing’s being hurt by these bad decisions. What qualifications do you have to have to be a judge?

by Skilz853 on Aug 23, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly I have no idea, but being related to someone always helps.

Boxers should go 15 rounds ago. I’m not joking. A lot more fights would end in those extra three rounds and it’d give a definitive answer to a ton of these controversies.

I don’t totally disagree. I know everyone’s very concerned about safety and the less rounds guys get hit in the end, the less likely they are to have something bad happen immediately or down the line (at least in theory), but I’d honestly be thrilled to go back to 15-round championship fights.
