Mayweather/Marquez: I'm excited...about Saturday and Beyond

Considering the state of affairs in boxing, and the coming months......

For the first time in awhile, boxing has me excited about an entire card. I can't remember the last time I knew that I would be sitting in front of a screen somewhere, anywhere, wherever I have to go to find it, in order to catch the prelims for a boxing PPV. The rematch of John and Juarez, Katsidis against a guy that could easily upset the bigger name (in what will likely be exciting as hell), Marquez who has truly become a people's champ vs Mayweather who is a boxing champ.

For the first time in awhile, I am hopeful for boxing. Despite the coming headache of Mosley/Clottey etc and the jockeying for dates etc, we still have Pavlik/Williams, Cotto/Pacquiao, and the Super Six tournament. Seriously. All of these fights are virtually set to go, waiting in the wings, on the horizon.

All this is in the coming months. ESPN has been doing a great job with Friday Night fights and I've been leaving my boxing gym as fast as possible on Friday  nights to make it home and catch the development of the Cuban trio as shown over the past year or so. I've seen Urango come back into the picture. On many levels, as boxing fans, we have less to gripe about and much more to be grateful for than has been the case for quite some time. Ward is getting some long overdue bigtime exposure and is stepping up against a legitimately stiff test against Kessler and it's part of a larger tournament style format.

Seriously. It's easy to get down on the sport and the headaches are numerous and prolific...but when things are shaping up to be action-packed and meaningful to the sport, we should also take note.
