Bad Left Hook Live Boxing Results and Commentary: Vitali Klitschko v. Chris Arreola
HBO will begin broadcasting boxing at 10pm ET, but I believe that the replay of Mayweather-Marquez will go on first, followed by the live airing of Klitschko-Arreola from Los Angeles. I'm not totally sure about that, but generally, that's been the order: Replay first, live fight second. Tune in at 10pm ET anyway to make sure, and then when you see that Floyd and Marquez are going first, either bask in the glory of Mayweather's skills, or find something else to do for about 45 minutes.

espn had the klitschKO brothers in the studio last night to introduce the top 10 plays of the week, and they did some lame ass “I’m Wlad and i’m the heavyweight champion, NO I’m Vitali and I’M the heavyweight champion”. it was great

I was actually pretty sure he had lost to Manny Pacquiao and Chris John…
Thanks for catching it. I did this late last night and put it in queue, plus I just go from the template I have saved, so before this table was this table, it was the Mayweather-Marquez table.

QUIT COVERING FOR YOURSELF HATER!
Seriously, though, I think Vitali has a couple more notable wins than the ones you have listed. Or do you always limit yourself to three?
"This fight'll be the nastiest thing you'll ever see. I been sober for six weeks, and that makes me vicious."
-- Randall 'Tex' Cobb
Five for mega fights, three for most other fights, and really most of Vitali’s better wins are so far in the past it doesn’t really matter, so I go with the two that Vitali 2.0 has had, plus his final fight before retirement.
And really, if you look at his record, there aren’t MUCH better names. Kirk Johnson, Corrie Sanders, etc. It was as lame a heavyweight division then as it is now.

Corrie Sanders
was a huge win. HUGE. Sanders was a very destructive puncher.
"This fight'll be the nastiest thing you'll ever see. I been sober for six weeks, and that makes me vicious."
-- Randall 'Tex' Cobb
And also
You know, it was how he won the title, and became “Champion Emeritus” in the first place. No big deal, just saying.
"This fight'll be the nastiest thing you'll ever see. I been sober for six weeks, and that makes me vicious."
-- Randall 'Tex' Cobb
Sanders’ record was suspect. Good puncher, yes, but Wlad was by far his biggest win. He was a decent fighter with a really good punch.

You could credibly call Sanders one of the top 20 “punchers” in Heavyweight history. When he uncorked, it was pretty horrendous.

Was there ever any talk of putting Vitali in the ring with Tyson? Before Tyson lost to Williams, that is.
There was certainly talk of putting Sanders in there with Tyson
Lots of talk.

Pretty much
Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster would never have been anything without having upset Klitschko.
Bad Left Hook - The SB Nation boxing blog
"Baseball is played on the field, not on a calculator."
Well... Sanders had a lot of trouble making fights
Just like all southpaws used to, before it became Southpaw-Palooza. Corrie was always seen as very dangerous.
But he was a purely destructive puncher… stats don’t tell the full story. Corrie was a much bigger puncher, for instance, than either Vitali Klitschko or Chris Arreola. In terms of boxing ability, he was probably on the grade of a Mike Weaver, but he was a deadly puncher when he could get in range.

Hey, we Irish are good at a few things:
1. brewing beer.
2. cussing incessantly.
3. laying train tracks.
4. growing potatoes.
5. drunken brawls.
(Not always in that order.)

BJ e-mailed me after I wrote my article
This is the first time I’m making this public:
Hey Brickhouse……Was just reading some of your insightful comments about the fight we called on ESPN classic with Chagaev V Klitschko. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about how the broadcast came off. Fortunately, the executives at ESPN didnt share your same opinion after the show and decided, (beleive it or not) to actually go an alternative route instead of banning me 500 feet within a microphone of calling a fight. Your not gonna beleive this next part……..
They actually invited me back the next week again, and then again on July 10!! I know crazy….Dan Rafeal as well, (whom I m sure you know far more than him also) said ………………..“I’m not sure what the future holds for cruiserweight contender B.J. Flores in the ring, but I thought he did a very solid job as the analyst for ESPN Classic’s coverage of Klitschko-Chagaev.” Once again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Im sure your some kind of expert with the whole boxing thing and you can back that up with your many accolades such as…….?
Who are you?? Whats your name and what do you do besides bash? I think people like you are funny….. Did I steal your girlfriend or something?? You remind me of one of those guys that sits on the computer all day and vents frustration through" his keyboard". Nice!! Might want to pick up some other hobbies. I love your “insight” on bad left hook. By the way, Id never even heard of the sight before and I was reading all the negative things about me and other boxers and I wasnt even gonna bother, I just thought it would be interesting to see if you would say who you are or you would just hide behind your keyboard…..Well?
To cap it all off, I could really care less about your opinion. I just thought it funny you would go out of your way to put so much dirt on my image. Keep doing it, cause as long as you do you are mentioning my name and bringing me exposure whether you like it or not. People like you are hilarious…..Who are you again? What have you ever done in a ring?? What fights have you ever called?? What fights have you ever been in?? Experience and “expertise” comes from where?? Were just a couple of the questions someone might have for you……
Wrapping this whole thing up, whats your name. Be truthful. Maybe I could bring some equally good press and announce to everyone on ESPN how "great " of a sight bad left hook is…. :) Im sure this will give you some good writing material and you will tell both of your friends what happened a write some nice story on your huge website. Either way, you kinda of coward how you write and what you say. its obvious you have never been in the ring and dont know what the Fxxx you talkin about….. I dont want this to turn into some kinda email war so just a simple name in return would be fine. If you got anything more to say you can say it to me in person. Il be in Bristol July 10, New Jersey july 11, Las Vegas July 17 (another espn card) or any fights on the weekends. In the meantime, I will continue to do what I do. Train hard and get ready for my next fight, continue calling fights for espn and enjoy the company of beautiful ladies whenever I want…..I know….sucks to be me…:) . I hate my life!! BJ

Klitschko-Arreola R1
Klitschko doesn’t look too stiff. He wings a right to the chest, and he’s jabbing away. Chopping right by Klitschko. Arreola trying to work inside, eating a few jabs, ducking the left hook from Vitali. Klitschko’s hands are really low. Body shot by Arreola, Vitali gets away from him. STIFF left hand by Vitali. Right hand by Vitali. Arreola is really making him move. That’s a good idea, probably. Vitali is so mechanical at this stage. Stiff jab again, and Arreola sticks some lefts toward the stomach. 1-2 by Vitali, nothing lands clean. Vitali outworking Arreola. Right hand lands for Vitali.
1-2s again from Klitschko. Arreola is either overwhelmed or he’s trying to make Klitschko use too much energy. He’s breaking the high guard pretty well so far (Klitschko that is). Arreola really isn’t throwing much of anything at all. He has hugged up a few times. Arreola tries to double or triple a jab, nothing gets there. Easy Klitschko round.
Klitschko 10-9

Klistchko-Arreola R2
Arreola was 7/32 in the first round. Vitali threw 88.
Right hand Klitschko. Combo by Klitschko. Arreola trying to jab his way in, eats a big right, but HERE COMES ARREOLA! Klitschko grabs up and Arreola bangs to the body while he can. Jabs from Klitschko. Left hook and a jab by Arreola. Jab city from Klitschko in response. Right hand by Klitschko sends Arreola backward. Arreola is having a hell of a time figuring this out. Klitschko swats at him with a lazy left hook, and it lands. Right hand Klitschko. Arreola chasing and trying to hit him, but then gets swatted with another left hand. Steward says if Arreola can keep up this pace, he can wear Vitali out. Maybe. It’s not the worst strategy.
Right hand Klitschko lands with authority. Jab by Klitschko. Another very easy to score round, all Klitschko. But Arreola is making him work and not getting hit TOO clean.

Left upstairs, right to the body by Klitschko. Right hand Klitschko, that was sharp. Arreola just cannot find his way inside so far. Left hook fools Arreola, and he’s hit with another right. Klitschko opening up, but Arreola throws a big right back at him and gets him to back down a bit. Arreola tries to go to the body, but gets jabbed instead. Klitschko doubles the jab upstairs. Right hand by Klitschko glances. Arreola half-shoves Klitschko back with a jab. Arreola targeting the body this round, but not enough and not terribly well.
Klitschko taking him to Jab University now. Klitschko now waiting to time him, almost begging Arreola to make a charge. This is getting really one-sided.

Arreola with a right hand, and now he’s starting to throw some I hope. Arreola throwing for sure now, chasing Vitali, trying to get him into a firefight. Arreola finally looks alive. Right hand Klitschko. Now it’s back to the pace Vitali would prefer, measuring and working at his distance. Arreola charges again, lands iffy shots. There’s a right hand by Arreola. Right from Klitschko in return. Vitali looking a bit less comfortable. Jab by Klitschko. Left sneaks through and glancingly lands for Arreola.
Big left hook swing by Arreola misses. Klitschko with some jabs, good body shot by Arreola. Left hook Vitali. Klitschko is breathing pretty heavy at the end of this round. Easily Arreola’s best round, but he still lost it.

Hard right by Klitschko comes after a jab. Right hand lands again. Klitschko on his bike a bit, but at the same time he’s landing quite well still. Arreola is starting to REALLY rip in some body shots when Vitali grabs up. Klitschko loading up and trying to land something quick. Arreola coming at him relentlessly, just not throwing as much as he needs to to win the rounds. He just might have a plan, but he’s starting to fall out of this fight in a big way. Klitschko doesn’t look as tired this round as he did last round. Right hand Klitschko lands again.

Arreola is frustrated: “He fuckin’ runs a lot.”
Arreola just avoids a big right. That could’ve been an icer. Klitschko stalking Arreola now to start the round, then he brings it back to center ring and pumps the jab into Arreola’s face. Boo birds are starting to come out a bit. It’s not Klitschko who isn’t fighting.
Hard body shot by Klitschko. Another right to the body by Klitschko, but Arreola throws back upstairs, just missing landing that one square on the chin. Arreola charging again, but again he gets nothing out of it. Klitschko jabs again. Right hand lands, but not flush for Klitschko. Body shot by Vitali again, then Arreola throws a little bit and rushes once more. It remains a shutout on my card.

He’s beaten, but he’s willing to keep coming in, and that’s something.
Big right by Vitali, but Arreola comes right back to him. Doesn’t throw any punches, but comes back. And gets punched some more. This is a bit brutal at this point. Arreola can’t do anything and keeps walking into a buzzsaw.

Probably a rebound fight, then maybe a step back up against Sam Peter or something. Arreola-Haye could still be sold and would be a hoot.

Get in shape and have half-decent boxing skills in the future, Chris.
He has a lot of heart but at the moment I don’t see him as a serious contender.

US fans not as classy as the Irish ones. Shame on them for booing LA resident Vitali Klitschko.

Arreola did much better then I thought he would
I see him beating any heavyweight not named Klitschko.
I don't know about that
But I think he would take out Chambers

Fans booing Vitali. If you watched the fight in Dublin earlier, this is a really huge change of pace in crowds. They were respectful to Poonsawat and cheered the hell out of an emotional Dunne.

Chris really had the adrenaline pumping tonight, but it wasn’t even close to enough. Vitali did his thing and did it well. L.A. was about as classy as usual, boing Vitali. Hope Chris goes back to the gym and turns the corner, but I doubt it.

seriously
The moment I knew he had no chance is when Vit would land his uppercuts to the body and just casually pick off the counter hooks with his arms. When that started happening is when you saw chris get really frustrated

Ha. I said ’I’m so sick of the Klits’. No I’m not willing to say that CA has no shot under the right tutelage with the right gameplan and in shape. Those things may be too much to ask, but satisfy those and I think he “has a reasonable chance”.

CA could jab with V. Klit. If someone could ingrain in him the willingness to slip and jab consistently and with intent, I think that could be a different fight. I think that’s a start to be competitive. Just winging won’t ever get it done.
