BTW, I realize Williams is listed at only 6'1"
But he looks to be a good inch taller than the 6’2 1/2" Pavlik. I’ve seen other pictures where Williams is with Cris Arreola and the two are about the same height. If Williams is really 6’3" or 6’4", as many suspect, then (a) it’s even more freakish that he was fighting at welterweight, (b) I suspect that he fudged his height a bit in the hopes of getting some fights against shorter guys and © it’s a lot more in line with Williams’ reach. Despite Williams fighting the naturally ‘bigger’ guy, Williams will still have a ridiculous 7 inch reach advantage in this one, if he chooses to use it.

Yeah, it should be pretty clear now that 6’1" was a ploy by his management to try to get him welterweight fights. No one is picking up the phone for 6’3" 83"-long southpaw welterweight, who throws 80 punches per round. If they did there would be a lot of laughter on the other end of that line… there was already a lot of laughter.

Well
What we might get is a true perspective of Williams punching power at the higher weight. Ought to be interesting.

Why would Williams need power to win? He didn’t have anything that slowed Margarito down at all, and he won there. The kid is just a buzzsaw. He’s just in phenomenal shape and never stops whacking you all night.

Williams moves to his right pretty well and BHOP showed that that move basically leaves Pavlik with an unloaded gun because he’s clumsy with his feet.

Joe Calzaghe didn’t punch for beans and he toyed with most opponents. Williams’ level of activity and that ridiculous reach will keep give him a perfectly good chance to succeed at 160 even against a thunderous puncher like Kelly. I REALLY like this fight, though. It could be awesome.

It’s a great matchup. By “could be awesome” I mean it could be a seriously great, great fight once all is said and done.
