Luis Abregu another potential opponent for Joshua Clottey
Undefeated welterweight and frequent Shobox fighter Luis Abregu of Argentina is another fighter under strong consideration to fight Johsua Clottey on December 5, reports Rick Reeno.
Abregu (28-0, 23 KO) had an excellent four-round brawl in May with Irving Garcia, the fight coming the night before Hatton-Pacquiao and thus losing the buzz it might have had as a tremendous Shobox main event. His record is pretty hollow, and despite showing good power, he'd be a massive underdog against Clottey, who is tremendous defensively, has a great chin, and is a humongous potential step up in class for Abregu.
Reeno also says that Jesus Soto Karass (24-3-3, 16 KO) has also been mentioned, but he's not likely. Karass is currently scheduled to fight Alfonso Gomez on the Cotto-Pacquiao undercard on November 14.
Abregu looks to be one of the frontrunners to land they Clottey fight, along with Kendall Holt, who was reported yesterday as a possible opponent.
Just for kicks, a quick poll:

i like the abregu fight simply because its two fighters in the same division…i don’t like it because it would be a huge step up in competition for abregu who should be fighting a good journeyman (cosme rivera, david estrada) not a recent title-holder who should have never been stripped and is proven against world-class competition…never mind i just checked boxrec and abregu already beat estrada…in that case i like the fight, it’s kinda like cintron-angulo

I'd MUCH rather see him face Abregu
Abregu probably isn’t much more of a threat to actually win, but at least he’d do his best to make an exciting fight. Plus the whole welterweight thing. Holt is a chinny JWW who doesn’t throw enough punches – seems completely tailor made for Clottey.
