Golden Boy adding Khan-Maidana to Hopkins-Jones PPV?
Notifight is reporting today that Golden Boy Promotions has moved quickly after signing Amir Khan, scheduling a fight between the WBA junior welterweight titlist and interim beltholder Marcos Maidana for the April 17 Hopkins-Jones pay-per-view undercard.
Khan-Maidana has been a subject of much discussion lately, with rumors circulating that Khan would vacate the belt and duck a fight with the powerful Maidana. Khan's trainer Freddie Roach even said publicly that that's exactly what he would advise his fighter to do.
Now, it looks as though Khan will take the challenge, which isn't a total surprise or anything. Khan himself never said he wouldn't fight Maidana.
If this fight goes through as it now appears it will, it's a very good addition to the show, and makes it far more attractive. I was already going to bite the bullet and spend the money to cover it for the site, but now I'm actually not dreading it quite so much.

It’s already up on Boxrec, which is usually as good as you can get for confirmation. Tought night to be a Brit though, going to be coughing up to be watching Froch-Kessler and then Khan-Maidana no doubts.

Was that sarcastic?
Boxrec has a HORRIBLE record of jumping the gun when it comes to putting fights up on its schedule. If it’s on the ESPN schedule, then you know it’s official. If it’s on the Boxrec schedule, it could mean it’s a rumor, it could mean it’s confirmed, or in one of two cases I can think of, it could just be wishful thinking on the part of the people who run the site.

They did jump the gun on Mayweather-Pacquiao to be fair, but it is definitely an incredibly useful site when it comes to looking out for upcoming fights.

Useful, yes
Accurate, no
If I see something up on Boxrec when I do my weekly schedules, I always independently verify it. About 1/3 of the fights that are on there even a week before they’re supposed to occur never actually happen.

Yeah
Boxrec are by no means the gospel truth of boxing. Also, how they come to rate some fighters so highly puzzles me.They had Hopkins no.1 P4P up until a few months ago.
They’ve got some mathematical method that they constantly tweak. Some of their ratings are awful, but some of them (like how Luis Collazo is so low) is simply a reflection of the fact that Collazo has made a career fighting either A-fighters or C-fighters with no in-between, and it sort of winds up painfully accurate in a “results speak” way.

On Boxrec, Hopkins is still P4P number one, and Wlad Klitschko is at 3 above Floyd Mayweather I think: the ratings absolutely stink.

They're useful for looking at guys outside of the top 10 or so
Helps give a ballpark idea of where someone you’ve never heard of before stands.
Ratings are same as the schedule – more useful than accurate.

If this fight gets made Maidana will knock Con out. Con might have improved under Freddie Roach. But his chin is still a huge liability. And Roach knows it. Which is why he was against the fight

Surely Kon would make more sense
Of course that’s only if you feel the need to randomly insult people you have never met.

It’s easy for a person to make a fool of themselves when they assume things. I live Los Angeles. I met Con at Freddie Roach’s gym in Hollywood. Which is pretty much a hop, skip and a jump away from where I am

Khan can win this fight
but he will need to retain an incredibly high level of focus throughout it and keep at distance at all times. If he can do this, and utilise his impressive boxing skills, then he will get a very wide points victory. A drop in focus, any trading at all, or moving away from the gameplan at any time, and he gets dropped very, very hard.
