Am pumped up for this card. I think Lopez will be too much for Luevano who has not looked great in his last 3. I was seriously considering picking Mtagwa to upset Gamboa until I saw the weigh in. What do you guys think about the 122.5? Is featherweight just too high in weight for this guy?

I will not be able to watch this card live, but I have the Ole DVR ready to go—thank the lord for the dvr…Luevano is a crafty fighter and Juama showed some signs of being human…LOL…in his last fight. Still, I’m going with both Juama and Gamboa: that is the fight I eventually want to see!

I should be there, but I’m still stuck at work. Hopefully I get there in time for the Duddy fight at least.

Gamboa-Mtagwa R1

Mtagwa snapping a jab, and they’re throwing quickly. Left hook Gamboa! Doesn’t budge Mtagwa. Right hand Gamboa chops, but doesn’t quite get there. Gamboa staying at range, looks like he wants to use his speed. Right hand counter by Gamboa. Right hand Gamboa, HUGE SHOTS BY GAMBOA! Pure speed and power. Mtagwa felt that. That was NASTY.

Mtagwa looks way too slow here in the opening round. Nasty left by Gamboa. He’s shredding him with speed. Body shot by Gamboa. Mtagwa hasn’t landed one good shot in the entire round, really. DOWN GOES MTAGWA! Man he is out of his league in this fight. He can’t do anything.

Gamboa-Mtagwa R2

Gamboa is picking him apart again early. RIPPING HIM WITH RIGHT HANDS! HUGE LEFT HOOK! He’s UNLOADING NOW! PURE FURY AND SPEED! He is LIGHTING MTAGWA UP!

Mtagwa wisely ties up. He’s on another planet. This is easy pickings for Yuri Gamboa.

Gamboa is tattooing him. This is brave stuff from Mtagwa, but OH GOD GAMBOA WITH A BIG SHOT! He is ripping Mtagwa to pieces. DOWN GOES MTAGWA!

That might as well be it. Gamboa just placed punches like this was Fight Night.

He’ll go on. Why? A minute left. Gamboa is destroying him. LEFT HOOK! GAMBOA UNLOADING AGAIN! This is unreal. He is a phenom. Gamboa hurts him again. Mtagwa is in serious trouble and DOWN AGAIN.

Luevano-Lopez R1

Kellerman is going on and on about “whispers” that Luevano is an “old 28.” I guess after all those wars of his.

Both guys starting a bit tentative. Left over the top by Lopez. The commentary tonight is absurd. HEY REMEMBER LOPEZ STRUGGLED WITH MTAGWA?

Good left by Lopez backs Luevano down some. Luevano looks slow. Luevano is jabbing a lot but not accomplishing much. Whenever he opens up, Lopez hits him. Some woman screams out, “FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!”

Pretty slow opening round.

Luevano-Lopez R2

Lopez with another sharp left, then a right. That left hand looks like it’s going to be there so far. I think JML is actually being a bit more tentative than he needs to be. Luevano is a meat-and-potatoes guy. Luevano has gotten his right hand in a bit but there’s not much on it. Luevano is starting to win the exchanges. Lopez looks sluggish or something. Like he’s not quite on his game. He doesn’t look particularly determined, he’s one-dimensionally punching to the head, and not changing anything up. He’s really predictable so far.

Lopez misses badly on a right hook. Luevano starting to hit the body a little bit this round, and he’s doing more than Lopez is. Lopez with a little right hook, but that was a Luevano round.

Luevano-Lopez R3

BIG left by Lopez, and now he’s throwing his hands! Luevano definitely felt that one. Luevano comes back moments later with a left of his own.

Luevano is really digging at the body. That’s some good stuff. Lopez with a good shot now, then a couple chopping right hooks in close. Both go to the body. Lopez with an uppercut that sneaks through, but not a ton of mustard. Lopez working harder when they get close now, which it looks like he’ll need to do.

Left by Lopez, and he gets another round in. But this is a really close fight so far.

Luevano-Lopez R4

Good left by Lopez again. Now they trade in close. Left lead again by Lopez, then a right. Luevano backing down now, trying to fight off his back foot. Uppercut by Lopez. He’s starting to land really nicely early in this round.

Lopez is taking control nicely this round. This is his best round thus far by far, and I think we’re getting to see Lopez waking up a bit. There’s no doubt he was a bit sluggish early on, and I’m already ready to admit I overrated his speed in past fights. But Lopez dominates this round. Lopez with a good flurry at the end of the round.

Luevano-Lopez R5

This is almost a cruise control fight for Lopez. I’m not saying Luevano hasn’t done some good stuff, but he’s not quick, not powerful, and Lopez has fought enough southpaws that he’s not confused by that at all. Lopez is starting to tag him pretty routinely now, too. Lopez with uppercuts, good right hands whenever Luevano’s hands drop. This is getting a bit one-sided just in terms of momentum.

Luevano starting to press in the last 35 seconds or so of the round, which might be an early last-ditch effort.
