How does the Professional Boxing Union (PBU) sound to you? This sport has to get something if they ever want to stop getting criticized over bad fight decisions by the three judges ringside, especially in World Championship fights. There would be no more bad decisions, unfair world rankings by the four main organizing bodies. As a matter of fact, the WBC, IBF, WBA, and WBO would all cease existing. Great right, especially for the many of you who regard these affiliating bodies as nothing.
The new title belt would be called the Professional Boxing Union World Title, with the respective division indicated between the words world and title. For example, the Heavyweight Title would be called the Professional Boxing Union World Heavyweight Title. Things would be just so much easier with this type of system. Every major pro sport has an overseeing body, and it's time for the sweet science to get one. Examples of pro regulatory bodies: Basketball-NBA, Baseball-MLB, Football-NFL, Hockey-NHL, Golf-PGA, even bowling!-PBA.
It would make it more competitive. So much less fighters would win world titles, instead there'd be just one title belt in each division, and we wouldn't have to have too many champions, half of the current world titleholders don't look like real champions anyway. With just one championship for each division, the boys would be separated from the men. This is the offer I bring to the table, and I know it makes sense. To support my argument, here are fights that went down as outright robberies: Holyfield-Mercer, Lewis-Holyfield I, De La Hoya-Trinidad, Toney-Jirov, Ruiz-Valuev I, Valuev-Holyfield.
