Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

I encourage everyone to read it this week, as it's filled will all kinds of great material (some of which I may write on independently, once I get the time). Most interesting tidbits: Michael Katsidis may face Robert Guerrero on BAD on March 27; on April 17, a Pavlik-Martinez / Bute-Miranda doubleheader looks likely; and promoters are working on a Darchinyan-Donaire rematch. In his blog, Rafael also mentions the possibility of a Andre Berto-Paulie Malignaggi Haiti benefit fight, Timothy Bradley-Marcos Maidana, and Zab Judah-Carlos Quintana or Victor Cayo.

I Like Berto

and can’t even imagine the hurt he has been through recently,but i don’t like him fighting Paulie,for 2 reasons;
1/ It will be the second fight in a row that he has been matched against a smaller guy (140lber).
2/ I don’t think it will be a very entertaining fight.
I admit there is a possibility that Malignaggi could outbox Andre but i think there are more appealing fights out there, even though most of the top welters are tied up.
I had Berto v Collazo a draw.I would like to see that rematch.
Anyone seen or heard of Collazo lately?

I actually think Berto-Malignaggi could be highly entertaining, much more so than Berto against the lumbering Urango was. I’d also rather see Berto-Collazo II, but it’s probably not going to happen for a variety of reasons. I’d rather see Berto-Paulie than Berto against most welters, though. At least Paulie has speed.

The last I heard of Collazo he was as usual demanding too much money to land any good fights.

Tim Bradley

vs. Marcos Maidana is very appealing to me.I would love to see that one. Those 2 plus Khan,Alexander and Ortiz make for some great future fights.
I though Ortiz looked great against Maidana up until the capitulation and i think with more maturity,he could well be a player with the top guys in his division. The jury is still out at the moment:).
Most of you probably know this but just in case you don’t:-
Khan KO’d(or TKO’d,can’t remember) Ortiz in the amateurs.

Amateurs is different

to pro’s but a KO is a KO,after all:).

Probably a TKO

And possibly a mercy stoppage (one fighter is so far ahead that the ref just stops it), which counts as a TKO in the amateurs

I Checked

Khan’s amateur record and it was in a 2003 Junior Olympic tourney when they were both probably 16 or 17.RSCO rd 2 in the final.

Yup, RSCO = referee stopped contest - outclassed

So he didn’t really knock him out, he was just so much better that the ref didn’t think Ortiz deserved any further beating

Yeah

Odlanier Solis stopped David Haye in the 2001 World Amateurs but i see the tables being reversed in the pros, and i am not just being biased towards my countryman.Solis has turned into a fatso and after seeing him beat a washed up Monte Barrett, (who had quite a bit more fight left in him when Haye fought him, imo) i was not impressed. He landed once decent punch for the KO,but other than that,he was terrible.Haye would be too fast of hand and foot speed if they fought now.
Mind you,Vernon Forrest ALWAYS had Shane Mosley’s no.- Amateur and pro.
