The father of Puerto Rican boxing superstar Miguel Cotto passed away suddenly and unexpectedly today due to a heart attack. He was 57 years old.

Miguel Cotto Sr. was close to his son's career and his life in general. Reports are the he was driving, suddenly felt ill, stopped the car and asked for help before collapsing.

The younger Cotto had this to say about the passing:

"We appreciate all of the tokens of affection and sympathy. It is a very painful moment for me and for my entire family. I hope that everyone respect our request for space to overcome this difficult moment."

The boxing world of course sends its condolences and best wishes to the Cotto family, and we at Bad Left Hook share those sentiments. Rest in peace, Miguel.

Rest in Peace

RIP

This is sad, especially since their family was fractured and you could see how pained he was talking about it. Hopefully this sad event will bring the Cotto family together.

Woah… and truth be told he looked very fit for a man his age.

RIP.

"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."

RIP indeed

57 is far too young. Losing a parent has got to be the hardest thing, no matter what age you are, and especially if you are as close as Jr. was to Sr.
