Mayweather-Pacquiao now requires a mediator
From Dan Rafael at ESPN.com:
Mediator Daniel Weinstein will preside over the meeting in Santa Monica, Calif. Weinstein, a retired federal judge, also mediated the acrimonious dispute that kept Top Rank, Pacquiao's promoter, and Golden Boy, which represents Mayweather, from doing fights together for almost two years.
"We're going into mediation," Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, told ESPN.com. "This guy was successful resolving our nutty problem before and hopefully he can be successful this time. He's a guy who is a big fight fan and loves the sport, and I found him last time to be a delight to deal with. Everybody did."
In a statement Monday to ESPN.com, Weinstein said the sides accepted the mediation without any conditions.
Weinstein last mediated between Top Rank and Golden Boy when the companies were fighting in 2007 over the promotional rights to Pacquiao.
Just another step. I'm mostly still convinced that this fight happens on March 13, but then I also think the fast escalation of all this mess has really turned a lot of people off. It went from, "Wow, that's gonna happen," to reports of Pacquiao fighting Yuri Foreman, and I get the feeling a lot of folks just went, "Typical boxing bulls**t."
Maybe, and maybe not. But time's getting short to get the standard promotion in for March 13, so we'll find out soon here.

Da' Fight
SC, last week I was sittin in on a Rafael chat, or maybe it was one of his blogs, can’t remember but the gist of what I’m gettin’ at is Dan said Arum told him they got another week to get it done. Thats why I’ve been sayin’ it WILL get done, kinda’ readin’ between the lines. I think it was a promo hype job gone awry, egos got it in the way and it just blew up,..or its been planned this way all along, and we’re the suckers. Free hype!! The promoters gotta’ love that, what with the NFL playoffs, and the college bowl games, this is keepin’ people focused on this fight thru the holidays. It wouldn’t surprise me, especially if it gets straight tommorrow or the next day. Peace!!
Here's my proposal
Find the Mayweather camp conditionally guilty of defamation and award Pacquiao a multi-million dollar judgment. To collect, Pacquiao has to agree to random blood testing, but that blood testing can’t be done the week before the fight (or some reasonable period) and Mayweather has to give blood as often as Pacquiao. If Pacquiao is caught using PEDs, he has to pay Mayweather’s legal fees (double the fees as a penalty).
Pacquiao has the option to turn down millions and refuse drug testing, making it look like he has something to hide. Mayweather has the option to drop his request for random blood testing in exchange for paying a smaller penalty, basically admitting that his camp was just posturing and doesn’t really believe that Pacquiao is on anything (or at least anything that can be detected).
Of course, it’ll never happen.
as a fan of fighting period, not any one combat sport, but sports where guys hit, kick, tackle, whatever one another…..all this bullsh** does become tiresome. The only reason i’m nearly certain this fight will happen is the SHEER amount of money involved. the rest of the hype is partially ego, partially hype/drama. i’m all for building up fights…but doing it to this extent is just that….overf’ing kill. i’d rather be getting excited about a fight signed…….not a fight that still may not happen. you can only dangle the carrot so long before people do lose interest. esp. casual fans or semi-serious fans who don’t know the Berto’s or the Tomasz’s of the sport.

I don't understand why everyone is so confident this is going to get done.
You people greatly underestimate the stupidity and egos rampant in this sport.

I still believe in the power of money...
and $25 million+ per person is a lot to walk away from because of “egos.”

This is what I meant by underestimating.

The egos at play are fed by money, and there’s a whole lot of it here.

I would say people are hopeful more than confident.
Every fighter has a game plan until he get's punched in the mouth.

just like everyone said before, this is just top rank/golden boy’s way of promoting this damn fight. iirc they only had like a week scheduled for promotion back when the fight was “nearly a done deal”. this is just a scummy way of getting a couple weeks of extra press

I think it went from "Wow, that's gonna happen,"
to “I really want to see ________ get knocked out and lose.”
"I guess I can’t do anything if you’re just irrational, but to point it out and move on."

Bob Arum?
Richard Schaefer? DLH? Ellerbee? The Elder Mayweathers? Lots of Kayos to go around.
Wear something sexy to my funeral.
My worry about all this
I understand the promotional gimics and all that good stuff, but at this point are they adding to the profits for themselves while hurting the sport of boxing? This fight was supposed to help bring boxing back up to UFC’s level as far as national media attention and I think all of the talk about steroids and lawsuits are really hurting boxing as a sport. I would really like to hear about most fights on ESPN (or another national media provider). Remember, the higher the demand for boxing is among the average fan, the more money ESPN, Showtime, and HBO have in their budgets to show better fights for free (or cheaper than PPV, anyways).
I wish everyone would just quit covering this
I’m burnt out on all the selfishness. I’m sure that if the fight ever gets signed I’ll wet my pants, but until then I just no longer have interest in it. I’d much rather read about the upcoming FNF cards than continue to follow this crap.
