Opponent for Pacquiao to be named this week

Reuters reports that an opponent for Manny Pacquiao is expected to be named this week. Pacquiao will be fighting on March 20, likely at Las Vegas' Thomas & Mack Center, but possibly in Dallas.

"We expect Manny to fight in March," a spokesman for Top Rank told Reuters. "We're working on an opponent for him and we should have something finalized in a day or two."

Reports earlier indicate that 154-pound titlist Yuri Foreman is out after being turned down by Freddie Roach and Michael Koncz. We discussed other potential candidates earlier, including Paulie Malignaggi (who might fight Floyd Mayweather on March 13), Timothy Bradley, Joshua Clottey and Juan Manuel Marquez. It's also worth noting (well, sort of) that Zab Judah is rumored to be interested, too.

Let's poll it up!

Timothy Bradley will be in the lead for a couple hours

But as soon as Pacland finds this poll, expect them to skew it towards whoever the easiest opponent is.

Although Yuri is out......

He could be a compelling fight because of the move up in weight, height advantage and jab. A Zab Judah with problems sorted out also seems interesting for some reason.

For some reason, I feel Bradley could be a walk in the park as his punches don’t seem to have a lot of power.

Tell that to Edner Cherry.....

I loved the interview afterwards where he said, “Yeah, that was my James Toney right hand….”

I may well be wrong, but was that the first time Cherry ever went down?

Some people are acting like Pacquiao should be expected to have just gone, "Yeah sure, let’s do something I’ve never done before because your dad made some dumbass baseless comment."

Bradley can punch when he sits on his punches

But he throws a lot of flurries without much on them, then pops out with a surprisingly hard punch out of nowhere. Sort of like Calzaghe, before his hand problems became so bad that he just slapped all the time.

I’d like to see him fight Marquez—in part as a litmus test of just how much Manny has improved.

Fuck it… Martinez or Williams…

I have no issue whatsoever with a Bradley or Clottey fights. If it weren’t for the Mayweather let down, I would even say him versus Paulie is a fascinating fight. Judah doesn’t deserve it, JMM would get rolled at this point (especially at 140), and Foreman just… eh. My problem with Foreman is that with his weight and movement, he might actually win. I don’t want to see Pacquiao lose to a middling fighter just because he moved up too far in weight. It would take some of the luster off the bigger fights back at better weights.
