Bad Left Hook Live Boxing Results & Commentary: Roman Karmazin v. Dionisio Miranda

Did you know they still hold boxing events in rings, too?

A new year of fights, and a new year of live coverage here at Bad Left Hook. I know this isn't the most exciting fight on paper (I see it getting one-sided pretty fast), but by God it's a fight card and I'm dying for a fight card right about now.

The show starts at 10pm ET on ESPN2. My fight preview can be read here, if you missed it (or if you care enough to read a Karmazin-Miranda preview). Also featured on the show will be Art Hovhannesyan against veteran Freddie Norwood.

I actually think this will be a crackin’ good fight. Sides that I’m jonesin’ for some fight action, specially after the disappointments of the day. Peace!!

Amen

I’m dying for a fight card too. Looking forward to it even though I’ve never seen these guys before. Just nice to know boxing will be on pretty much weekly.

NOW it feels like the holiday season is over

It’s a Friday night, boxing is on, and I’m working until 3 in the morning instead of drinking.

Shouldn't drink anyway

Quit smoking for New Year’s. So far so good, but a night of heavy drinking probably isn’t the best idea quite yet.

Sorry if my question seemed dumb, but I feel like it’s an item that I haven’t heard at all, and it seems particularly strange. Did Pacquiao’s team REALLY think Mayweather would keep quiet about him testing positive and continuing w/ the fight?

No, not a dumb question. I avoided it because it was too hot-button, too weird, and really, easily explained from a contractual standpoint, but it was a thing where folks get up on their soapboxes for sure.

Karmazin-Miranda R1

Miranda swings a meaningful right hand over Karmazin’s left, but it’s wild. Karmazin going to the body, then upstairs. Left hook by Miranda as Karmazin works at the body. Miranda misses another massive right. If he connects on one of those, woo boy. But that’s the usual Dionisio story.

Tactical opening round.

Karmazin-Miranda R2

Karmazin lands a nice sneaky counter right about halfway into the round. Karmazin is a better fighter, and I think that’s clear. This isn’t the old, aggressive Karmazin, and Miranda is holding his own in there, but the gap in skill is evident, IMO. Teddy seems to think Miranda won this on effort, but I disagree.

Karmazin-Miranda R3

Miranda starting to unload early in the round, and Karmazin looks like he’s reeling. He IS reeling! Miranda is on him! Karmazin’s legs look bad! He’s on the run! Miranda could put a finish on this if he finds an opening. That right hand of his is a bomb.

Karmazin shoves Miranda away, now trying to stay back and get his legs under him. Miranda swinging wild. Miranda’s legs are leaving the ground when he fires his right. Karmazin goes to the body, now staying away more effectively. Karmazin’s legs look like they’re back, and there he lands some good punches of his own.

Good round for Miranda, but Karmazin bounced back.

Miranda 10-9

Karmazin just seems a little too slow, a little too gun shy, a little too old

It really looks like Miranda’s going to catch up with him at some point. Karmazin will outbox him up to that point, but it just doesn’t look like Karmazin has enough legs to last 12 with a big puncher, unless Miranda loses a lot of steam on his punches.

But he was one of those guys who would seem to just miss punches coming at him

they’re not just missing him anymore. The reaction time isn’t quite there anymore.

Karmazin-Miranda R4

Karmazin starting to unleash both hands to start this round. Karmazin back to out-boxing Miranda. Miranda pawing his jab out there, and Karmazin counters to the body off of a right that doesn’t get there. Much better round for Karmazin for the first two minutes. It looks like the only thing that’s goiing to beat him is Miranda’s power, but that’s a huge threat, too.

Clash of heads, and Miranda is bleeding from near his left eye.

Karmazin 10-9
Karmazin 39-37

More defensible than Teddy's card

which is predictably horrible

Karmazin-Miranda R5

Cut didn’t look like it was in a bad place. Teddy gave Miranda a 10-8 third round. That’s preposterous. I mean come on. Karmazin even won the last minute or so of the round.

Karmazin now looks very tentative, like he’s becoming really unwilling to lead the action. Looks like he might be very fearful of Miranda’s power, and I suppose rightfully so after that third round. Karmazin going to the body at the end, but this was a “ring generalship” score for me, whatever the fuck that means.

Miranda 10-9
Karmazin 48-47

Karmazin-Miranda R6

Miranda shoots that big right again, but as usual Karmazin is shouldering into his body by the time he’s got it thrown. Karmazin’s body work hasn’t been amazing or anything, but it has been there. Karmazin nearly caught again with a huge right, that one just barely missing. No slipping, no blocking, just barely missed. Karmazin ends the round really well with some pointed body work.

Karmazin-Miranda R7

Karmazin continues to out-box Miranda, who keeps trying to find that big right hand. It’s really all he’s got. Quick lead right by Karmazin. You know, you’d never know Miranda has a decent height and reach advantage. He’s still very raw. Miranda finally uses his left a bit, but Karmazin comes back with a four-punch combination that lands. Karmazin is really starting to take over this round, landing another very good right hand. That cut is definitely opening up, but it’s just going down the face. Not affecting his vision whatsoever.

Great round for Karmazin.

Karmazin-Miranda R8

This is the round I called, so let’s do it, Roman! Actually I don’t much care.

Roach joins commentary for this round.

Miranda still just looking for the one big right hand. Karmazin is just doing more than Miranda is, and we’re again seeing just how limited Dionisio really is in the ring. Left hook by Karmazin after he ducks under a hook from Miranda. We’re starting to get some real difference, but just as I say that, Miranda backs him down with a right hand with about 20 seconds left.

Karmazin 10-9

Teddy is a distraction.

Miranda has an overhand right that Karmazin can’t get under.

Karmazin-Miranda R9

Karmazin coming out fast again this round, firing his left hook repeatedly. Nice jab by Miranda. He seems to have some starch on that thing when he can land it. BIG RIGHT BY MIRANDA AND DOWN GOES KARMAZIN!

THAT WAS A SHOT!

Karmazin will fight on, but that right hand shows itself again.

Miranda looking to finish! Roman’s on awful legs, and Miranda has him backed into the corner. Firing the right and the left hands now is Miranda. Karmazin is hurt. Left hook partially blocked by Karmazin, but he’s losing it. Hands are dropping. Miranda still isn’t showing an ability to finish. Karmazin is still on wobbly legs, but he’s surviving so far. A minute to go.

Right hand by Karmazin! Again, Karmazin starts to take over the round when he gets his legs back, but this was a huge round for Dionisio Miranda.

Karmazin-Miranda R10

Miranda firing big shots, and Karmazin backing away. Miranda’s mouth piece comes out, and they replace it.

Miranda getting very wild trying to end this fight. It’s also keeping Karmazin from doing much of anything, but it’s just not very effective and shows his flaws. Flurry for Karmazin, but he hasn’t hurt the somewhat chinny Miranda once in this entire fight. DOWN GOES MIRANDA ON A RIGHT HAND! SHUT MY MOUTH!

Karmazin storming once Miranda is up! MIRANDA TAKING SHOTS! AND DOWN HE GOES AGAIN AND IT IS OVER!!!!!!
