Video Hype: Margarito "Apologizes" to Freddie Roach
Top Rank's site posted what is being titled an apology from Antonio Margarito to Freddie Roach, but is really more of an official statement trying to shift the blame to those who "edited" the video. For the record, there were two "official" versions of the video uploaded. The first led everyone to the outrage over the contents. The second was edited in a clear attempt to make Margarito look better, and to cut stablemate Brandon Rios entirely out of the video, because his "contribution" to the brief segment couldn't be turned into anything but a mockery of Roach's Parkinson's disease.
But this is what Margarito had to say. How you view it is up to you.
The good news is we're about done with all of this. Margarito and Manny Pacquiao will fight in two days, and then we move on. Unless there's something really major to come out of this, which there likely isn't, this will be our last post dedicated to the video ordeal.

It wasn't my fault..
..it was my trainers. He put the wraps on me!
…it was the guys who edited the video..
…it was Manny Pacquaio. He kept punching me and that’s why I lost.
I think people here know that I am no fan of Margarito and I have been adamant about boycotting this fight from the beginning… however, after listening to Margarito’s version of the events, I went back to the original video and if you listen closely you can definitely hear Margarito saying “ay que miedo” (“oh, I’m so scared”) … On the other hand, the face and hand gestures also suggest something else is going on…
Obviously, Rios’ performance is completely beyond defense… it also seems like that’s not the first time he’s “entertained” the Garcia Gym with his impression of Roach because it’s actually Garcia the one who puts Rios up to it, like if he had seen it before and found it hilarious.
Officially boycotting Pacquiao vs. Margarito.
Fire Steve Addazio.
You know what?
I wasn’t even going to watch this video, since I assumed it would just be the same insincere tripe that they usually consist of.
After your comments, I watched both videos. My Spanish is shady at best (and the translator was crap, as far as I could tell) but I can see what you mean. He (Margarito) DOES say what he says he said, and therefore I’m open to the suggestion that this COULD have been taken out of context due to Rios’ subsequent imitation.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Most fight fans would not spend a dime to watch Van Gogh paint 'Sunflowers', but they would fill Yankee Stadium to see him cut off his ear. (Bill Nack)
Here’s what Rios had to say, per FanHouse’s Lem Satterfield:
It was mainly meant for his camp and our camp. We didn’t mean for it to be brought out to the whole world where everybody has taken it differently. It was a bad video and it just came out in the wrong way.
Translation: “We didn’t mean for everyone to think we were doing exactly what we were doing.”
Now that they’ve done semi-apologies, it’s probably best to just stop talking about it, because they’re just making it worse every time they do. I guess he’s saying he thought Elie Seckbach was going to take the video over to the Wild Card and play it for them but nobody else on earth. This is the worst talking in circles I can remember. My God.

One more from FanHouse, as Roach has publicly accepted Garcia’s apology:
But, you know, after I got off of the phone with Robert, he had apologized sincerely. He brought up how I have treated him when he comes to my [Wild Card Boxing Club] gym and how I’ve given him sparring partners. He said how if he wins this fight, he’s not the greatest trainer.
Robert said that I would still be the greatest trainer because I’ve had so many world champions. I felt like it was a very sincere apology. You know what? I’m a forgiving person and, you know, I think that they realize that they went a little bit too far. I was upset but I’m not anymore.

I like the suggestion that some of the purse go to a Parkinson’s foundation. I think AOL Fanhouse should kick down some money too, seeing as how they can apparently afford to have ILM edit their videos.

I believe Margarito. Lets focus on the fight now.
I think that the reason that it was taken down to begin with was not to protect Margarito but to protect the people behind the editing of the video and its affiliates. If it was taken the wrong way then those that created the video would be and could be seen as potential instigators of this entire circus. Let the fighters fight and lets see what happens. Personally I think that if Pacquiao gets careless or slows down even for a one or two rounds he’s getting knocked out. Hard to believe but that just my opinion. Margarito has something like 28 knockouts and he is the bigger guy. The odds started at 6 to 1 but personally i think it should be more like 2 1/2 to 1. Cant wait!
I don't see it
I can’t see any conceivable way that Margarito can win this fight. Margarito doesn’t have the speed or counter punching ability to beat Manny. He is a strong body puncher and fights well on the inside but Manny will be bouncing and moving all over the place, I don’t think he’ll ever really be able to sustain any type of body attack or make this a phone booth fight. I see a one sided fight with the ref eventually calling the fight after round 9 or 10 because Tony ain’t doing shit but getting punched in the face.
I'm counting on Laurence Cole's incompetence
I’m thinking Pacquiao UD-12.

Speaking of "apologies"
Capetillo has “apologized” for his role in the Margarito hand wrap scandal:
http://www.ringtv.com/blog/2496/capetillo_breaks_silence_apologizes_for_handwrap_scandal/
"I knew we were in deep s__t, and we couldn’t tell anyone. It was too late to pull out of the fight. But I want to make it clear that I did not plan what happened. Maybe I was feeling the pressure of the fight and not paying attention to what I was doing when I reached into my bag and grabbed the training gauze, but I didn’t do it on purpose.
"I made a mistake. I wasn’t trying to hide anything. I just screwed up, and I did it in front of Mosley’s trainer and the commissioners…I confessed to the commission after the fight. I took responsibility for my actions and I think I’ve been punished as if Tony had fought with the gauze."
If there’s ever been a worse apology. He also went on to say that Margo never fought with illegal hand wraps, and that he thinks Margo will beat the crap out of Pacquiao.

the ironic thing is...
Parkinson’s and all, Roach speaks with more conviction and eloquence than this puto.
The whole incident made "Pardon the Interruption" on ESPN--
Figures. The only boxing “news” they generally speak of is the nasty stuff.
I do not think that Manny trained well for this fight. I’m hesitant to decide how shot that Margarito is off the Mosley loss as Margarito was not prepared mentally or physically (and then there was the bust). Mosley, whether he is a Willie Pep or not, employs a power-boxing style, while Manny is a Kamakazie pilot and is going in against a bigger, stronger man—one who very badly wants to win. I believe that if Manny’s in and out movement is not consistent and effective he will lose this fight.
The other key, beside Manny’s speed is what’s left of Margarito’s chin, IMO.
