Christy Martin Shot and Stabbed in Florida
Christy Martin, the top female boxer known as "The Coal Miner's Daughter," was shot and stabbed by her husband in Apopka, Florida. CFNews13.com reported the news earlier. The 42-year-old fighter is currently in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and the Orlando Sentinel says that Martin was conscious after flagging down a motorist, who alerted the authorities. She told deputies that her husband, 66-year-old James Martin, was responsible for the attack.
Investigators did not find James Martin at the couple's Apopka home, but they did see evidence of a violent struggle. Authorities continue to search for James Martin, who is described as a 5 foot, 10-inch, 165-pound, bald white man with brown eyes.
Deputies think James Martin may be a danger to himself and are concerned for his safety.
Martin, who last fought in 2009, has a career record of 49-5-3 (31 KO) and is one of the most famous female boxers in the sport's history. She turned pro in 1989, and later fought the likes of Laila Ali and Holly Holm.
Her husband also served as her trainer for much of her career.
Bad Left Hook sends our best wishes to Mrs. Martin for a full recovery.

Man, that’s tragic. Here’s to Christy making a speedy recovery.
Such were the days, still, hot, heavy, disappearing one by one into the past, as if falling into an abyss for ever open in the wake of the ship; and the ship, lonely under a wisp of smoke, held on her steadwast way black and smouldering in a luminous immensity, as if scorched by a flame flicked at her from a heaven without pity.
This is ridiculous… when is it going to stop? Women beaten, killed, raped… Christy, I wish you recover soon and without any long term effects.

Not any time soon, I fear, mate.
I don't take personal insults well. My wires are such so that when it happens, i'm not going to put on head gear, lace up the gloves and put in the mouthpiece. I'm going to drop the gloves and just let the adrenaline take off.
Her Physical Wounds
Will likely clear up pretty readily, but that’s not just merely her husband that did that to her, it’s her trainer—who do you trust now?

She was pretty much finished as a fighter. This is nasty stuff.

BoxAnne, this is really just me being interested, but does that mean you reckon a trainer is closer to someone than a husband? I don’t know if I’m completely misinterpreting what you said, but still.

Well
I realized it looked weird right after I posted it, no, not exactly—just that he has apparently filled two (even tho husband rates above guru/deeply-influential-teacher/trainer), not just one, major functions in her life, so it seems like a double loss. I know she’s no longer fighting, hasn’t been in a while i don’t think, but those would usually be two relationships, and she’s had “both” for a long time. Just how it seems to me.

but I could be misinterpreting her situation entirely, just seems like a double loss.

I agree… in any sense, it’s a very deep betrayal. There might be something wrong with him mentally (more than your average wife beater) because in the report it says that the police consider him a “danger to himself”…

We are riding a trifecta of boxers involved in assaults. The rapid succession of these events is reminiscent of the summer when Forrest and Gatti died.
It's unreal

Or maybe it because the news gets to us so rapidly now vi the internet. Just a theory I have.

This Just In from ESPN--Christy Martin's Home Burlarized
as she recuperates in hospital. Sixty-six yr.-old husband still on the lam. Wonder if they looked in the basement.
