"I don't worry about who the bloggers think is the best opponent...I really don't care [what] the writers say or even what the hardcore boxing followers say when it comes to this. I know we need to pick the opponent who is the most familiar to the casual sports fan, the casual boxing fan who cannot name all the fighters" -

I understand that this is a business…I really do, I’m not naive. But this guy is such a douche…This is why I did not pay for Margarito and Pacquiao. I know, it didn’t affect at all. But the truth is I don’t want to give this guy my money; a man who obviously holds us in such contempt that he makes crappy fights knowingly, just because of “name recognition”.

I think the more salient point here is that Arum is bs’ing about Mosley being a bigger draw than Marquez. He isn’t. Marquez is probably a somewhat better draw. The real difference, from Arum’s perspective, is that GBP controls Marquez and would get a share, whereas GBP may or may not control Mosley and might not get a share.

I don’t ever expect salesmen (which is all promoters are, really) to look at anything other than the bottom line, or to be honest in their salesmanship. But if I’m going to get annoyed, it’s the second thing that’s going to annoy me, not the first.

I understand what you’re saying, but I just think that salespeople who depend on fans to make their sales should be a bit more caring about those people who will support almost anything that’s boxing related and not dismiss them as if they didn’t matter. I know I’m being idealistic, but it still offends me.

To me it doesn’t seem like it’s even about profit, it’s about pure unadulterated greed with Bob Arum. I find him disgusting (please don’t give me a warning… I won’t continue repeating this all throughout the site).
