berto and hbo

Stay connected for news and updates

i know this has been discussed before, but i haven't heard a reason that makes any sense yet, so i'll throw it out there again: why is hbo paying berto so much $$ for fighting guys so obviously below his abilities?

i hear his manager/advisor, al hayman, may have something to do with it. or is it because hbo feels 'pot committed' with berto and is intent on making him a star, even without having to be tested?

even so, why not offer berto $300,000 to fight a guy like hernandez. i can't see espn or showtime offering that much. at this point he's used to getting overpaid to fight lesser opponents, but at some point he'll have to realize that if he wants big time money, he has to fight big time guys.

it's not good for the sport to be overpaying this much.

please help me understand why hbo paid berto $925,000 (90% of the purse!) to fight hernandez.
