How often do you agree with Harold Lederman's score cards?

If I knew how to create a poll I'd do so but since I don't I'll just ask.  I was watching Khan/Maidana with a few buddies who generally don't watch boxing unless they're at my house and I force them. They were pretty entertained by the fight but at one point they asked me if I agreed or disagreed with Lederman's scoring. I disagreed with some of the rounds that he gave to Maidana so they followed that up by asking me in general do I agree with his scoring? That one really made me think because I usually tune him out and only vaguely pay attention to his scores.  I ended up telling my friends that if the two fighters were of similar status/celebrity I agree with most of Lederman's scoring but when one fighter's popularity immensely outweighs the other I feel like Lederman gives the popular fighter way too much credit. But then my friends asked, "well isn't Khan more well known than Maidana?" at which point I told them I give up and can't really answer since I don't listen to much of HBO's broadcast team for anything.

The question has lingered though so I thought I'd ask you guys. What do you think of Harold Lederman's unofficial score cards? Do you think he gets it right most of the time, some of the time, or hardly ever?

About 90% of the time. He is very good IMO.

I don't take personal insults well. My wires are such so that when it happens, i'm not going to put on head gear, lace up the gloves and put in the mouthpiece. I'm going to drop the gloves and just let the adrenaline take off.

Usually I do. I’ve never really kept track, but they’re not usually outlandish.

More often than I agree with the official cards. I’ll leave it at that.

Ok Jim, maybe 95% of the time

He calls the fights pretty well and is knowledgeable.

I agree with him most of the time. Sometimes I feel like he gives a little too much credit to guys who are high volume, but not necessarily accurate or effective.

But on a personal level, you will not meet a more decent or humble human being. The guy is a prince.

I exchange emails with him and his humility and candor is truly refreshing.

Probably 80% of the time

But more than half of those are no brainer type fights. I feel like there are usually a good 5 or 6 fights a year where I pretty strongly disagree with his scoring. A few that immediately jump to mind are Alexander-Kotelnik, Williams-Martinez I and Williams-Cintron.

He sounds like New York. I like it.

I actually rented an apartment to a Hispanic girl here in Mass., because I could hear NYC in her speech and knew she’d be cool. Seven years later she’s still the best tenant I ever had.

I thought he was very good the other night.

He has his off nights but I never attribute it to prejudice or malice.
Most often I agree with him.

he is good enough that he makes me reconsider whether his vantage point gives him a better feel and view than my own…which it should but doesn’t necessarily guarantee with replays and such

I agree with him the vast majority of the time, and even when I don’t he does a good enough job articulating the reasons for his scoring that a lot of the time I end up changing my mind and agreeing with him after all.

He gets a bum rap. Merchant gets a bum rap. Etc., etc.

Usually I can see his justification for scoring a certain way

But there definitely are times I feel like he scores a round a certain way because that’s how he thinks the real judges will score it, rather than because that’s the way he actually saw the round. I feel like that was happening pretty regularly in Alexander-Kotelnik. Or maybe he just gets swayed by crowd noise as much as a lot of judges do.

All that said, if he was still a real judge, I would think he was one of the better ones.

Teddy Atlas is the same way

Great commentator I think, but some of his scoring decisions are mindblowing.

My bad choice if wording..

I meant dumb as in his scoring, I should have used silly or incorrect. I appreciate Atlas is no fool. (just wanted to clear that up)

Atlas is smart and articulate

But loves the sound of his own language.

As a commentator however, he often weds his own predisposed agenda or story line…either crafting his narrative to fit or worse, sticking with it too long.

I don't watch enough Friday Night Fights to know

But that’s weird that his scoring would be so off when he generally seems like an intelligent guy in all the interviews I’ve read. Does anyone here recommend his book?

His scoring is okay to as far as I'm concerned. It's his predictions that are woeful.

Sometimes I think/project(?) that he does that to try to encourage the man he really thinks will lose, hoping it will give him some heart. It’s actually pretty heavily against the odds for him to be wrong as often as he is, there’s got to be a reason. But if that’s his reason, it’s got to be backfiring by now—If I were going to into a fight and Atlas predicted my win, I’d suffer a back injury fast.

He scores a lot of random 10-10 and 10-8 rounds

I can’t blame him too much though. I mean, his real job is to commentate. You can’t watch the fight as closely if you’re trying to think of what to say. Happens all the time when I do RBRs. Your brain just doesn’t process as much when you’re also thinking of ways to describe the fight.

Ok, Jim let me tell ya.

He’s alright at best, but he always gives the popular fighters more credit. For example, take a look at the Marquez-Pacquaio fights, he can be extremely bias. Ok, Jim, OK Jim, Ok Jim let me tell ya.
