Goes the distance and Hopkins will lose a fight that he should win. Not a total robbery, but they’ll give it to Pascal.

Hopkins needs a huge performance tonight to win.

Hop is the Lex Luthor of Boxing. He has always beaten guys with his brain, not with his body. But as hard as it is to accept, he is not a young man anymore, and while I still figure he has the edge over the Tavoris Clouds and Jean Pascals of the world, it’s easy to imagine them and many other guys outworking him in 8 of 12 rounds. He needs to do to Pascal what he did to Tito and Pavlik. Crowd him, jam him up, break his rhythm and fire when he sees the whites of his eyes.

All this B-Hop talk, I'm not seeing it for him...

Pascal is unorthodoxed and elusive, but at the same time he’ll have the homefield advantage. Overall Hopkins will get worked for twelve whole rounds, 115-113 on all three cards for Pascal. Big wins for Canada two weeks in a row —GSP and Pascal.

Time to step aside B-Hop. You had your time to shine.

I don’t think he brought one of his good masks with him. Like I said earlier, he was asking people if he should wear a mask on Facebook earlier today. So I think he just went, “Should I wear a mask?” And that’s all that was available in Quebec City unless someone from Camp Hopkins went to one of those freaky S&M shops, and how would you even go about asking? Would you ask someone from Pascal’s team and risk giving offense? Would you ask an arena worker? I don’t know. It’s a dicey situation.

Pascal-Hopkins R1

Huge ring. Pascal jumping in with a left hook, but Pascal takes a right immediately on his first real lunge. Bernard is ready. Bernard chases him down with a body shot. Hopkins shooting the jab and then a right to the body again, up under the armpit. Hopkins charges in with a flurry, and Pascal pops him with a good left hook in return. Hopkins looks a lot more spry tonight than he did against Jones, but we’ll see if that lasts. Pascal lands another clean shot, and he shoots in with a good right hand. Pascal’s speed might be a difference maker. Bernard coming in again, and BERNARD GOES DOWN IN A FLURRY! Not sure if that was a rabbit punch or not, but it swings a 10-9 Pascal round to 10-8. Bernard’s not hurt, bell sounds.

Pascal-Hopkins R2

Maybe that gets Bernard to take risks he wouldn’t have if he’d felt he won the first round, which he may well have without that KD call. Pascal doing his rushes, Hopkins trying to time him. Pascal swings a wild left, doesn’t land. Tentative first half of this round from both. Hopkins starting to bully just a bit, but Pascal is still fighting smarter than I’ve seen him fight before. Hopkins with two rights in close. Pascal rushes with a left hook, hits mostly glove but it’s loud and gets a response. Close round, but Bernard’s just not landing much.

Pascal-Hopkins R3

Pascal shoots in with another left, which lands clean after a right misses. Pascal at key moments just looks too fresh for Bernard. There’s another left hook from Jean, not totally clean but it got there. Bernard just doesn’t have the reflexes to cut this off enough, at least not yet. Bernard going to the body, trying to slow Pascal down. Hopkins takes another left hook, Hopkins gets in a good shot there too. HOPKINS GOES DOWN FOR REAL THIS TIME! Bernard isn’t hurt, but he’s just…I think he’s realizing he’s old. I think he really is starting to notice that this guy is too quick. Hopkins trying to get away from Pascal when they come back.

And Hopkins repeatedly throws punches after the bell because he can’t hear and neither can the ref.

Hopkins is staying alive in there, though. He lands a hook to the body. Hopkins doing good body work. Hopkins starting to come alive a little now, and he’s starting to land in combination. Left hook is getting there. Hopkins making a statement this round that he’s not dead just yet. Pascal with a little right hand that nicks Bernard, but Hopkins comes back with a couple shots, then digs to the body. Hopkins goes down again, but that was a slip and is ruled as such.

Pascal-Hopkins R5

Pascal making his rushes, but Bernard is starting to match him there. Hopkins isn’t going to go down without a fight — that doesn’t mean “out on his shield” like super warrior fighters, because Bernard doesn’t do that nonsense, but he’s going to go out fighting if he’s going to go out. Hopkins is in my view clearly winning another round here — and Al and Antonio are right that this is Bernard’s pace. Pascal is being flashier, but Hopkins is starting to get just out of range on the power shots, at least most of the time. Bernard corners him and lands a couple, and Pascal spins out and lands too.

Pascal-Hopkins R6

I kind of feel like Pascal is sort of psyching himself out of a runaway decision. If he’d just up his activity like 20% he’d look like he’s dominating, probably. Hopkins can only go about 10% more than this. Hopkins with a left hook, then chases him with rights that don’t get there. Pascal really isn’t doing much of anything this round. Hopkins with a combination, but Pascal finally wakes up and comes back with a counter left.

Pascal-Hopkins R7

Bernard starting to firmly take control of this fight, which is just…it’s Bernard Hopkins. I think he’s dead and he’s not. The son of a bitch comes back. Good left hook to the body. Bernard’s body shots are starting to pile up. Pascal going back — Pascal’s hurting or something. That left hook to the body is landing. Right hand, left hook to the body by Hopkins. Bernard’s doing it again. The son of a bitch is doing it again. He is tearing Pascal up now. What in the holy hell does this guy eat? This is a quietly dominant round, and the Quebec crowd is fading. Pascal is doing NOTHING. Another left hook to the body. Pascal is reeling. Not blatantly, but he’s reeling. Tarver’s right: School is in. More body work. Hopkins misses a right, but a left hook lands. Right hand lands for Bernard. Pascal swings his arms around to no avail.

Pascal-Hopkins R8

I don’t think Bernard Hopkins can lose this fight, and I really don’t think Jean Pascal can win it. Hopkins is starting to play mind games. Hopkins is starting to totally dictate everything about this fight. And Pascal just has this blank stare on his face as he ambles about the ring. jrok called those flinches — he does it constantly. Bernard digs to the body again. Pascal is more alive this round than he was in the last, but he could have broken wind in the corner and seemed more alive than last round. But this is winnable with 40 seconds to go. Bernard with a little charge, getting in Pascal’s head again I think. Pascal starting to rough Bernard up now. Bernard, unlike against Roy, is putting on a mean face about it. Much better round for Pascal, but the momentum is still Bernard’s and I think he took this round.

Nice, sharp, fast right hand from Hopkins. Hopkins suddenly looks quick. Left hook again by Hopkins. Right to the body by Hopkins. They get tied up, both throw. Right hand, left uppercut by Hopkins. He’s landing a lot this round. The Hopkins fans are the only thing waking up the Pascal fans anymore. BIG right by Hopkins. That’s as stiff of a punch as he’s landed since Pavlik. Pascal looks mentally gone. Pascal comes back, but Hopkins looks like he feels no pressure. Hopkins charging, and he’s the guy throwing more in that exchange. Pascal does land well, though.

Pascal-Hopkins R11

Both guys throwing, and suddenly it’s a mini-brawl for a second. Hopkins drills him with a left hook, then rips to the body. Tarver thinks Pascal got hurt there, and he might be right. Pascal has been hurt to the body this fight. Hopkins is looking really Jaws-like this round. Dude is looking for the kill. Pascal landing shots here and there — God knows if a few of those closer rounds I scored for Bernard went Jean’s way, and I’d assume a couple did. So the scores could be fuckin’ anything right now. Hopkins jabbing, right hand, Pascal down and it’s a slip, their feet were tied up during an exchange. But Pascal still doesn’t have an expression that says much good for him now. Body shot Hopkins, Pascal TEARING with uppercuts, and the round ends.

Boxrec has it listed as a SD for MAB, and says it was changed 15 mins later.

It took a while

I don't take personal insults well. My wires are such so that when it happens, i'm not going to put on head gear, lace up the gloves and put in the mouthpiece. I'm going to drop the gloves and just let the adrenaline take off.

Congratulations Bernard - great fight !

In all seriousness

Could someone actually explain how you can get a 114 – 114 card?

He goes my shot:
Pascal wins the first 3 rounds and has a 3 round lead. Then over the next nine rounds, Bhop wins 6 and Pascal wins 3 I guess. Pascal winning the 8th, 12th, and maybe the 10th or something…..

Man I’m dumbfounded by that card…..

I'll try...

Some had Hopkins winning the rounds where he was knocked down in, therefore making it a 10-9 round for Pascal. For the other 10 rounds it’s 6-4 Hopkins, making it 114-114? I don’t agree with it at all, but that’s the only way I can see it.

Good work Dafs. It's the 6-4 that has the stench to it.

Yeah… I struggled to find anything for Pascal from 5-11… 4 and 12 were closer, and I think the 10th was close too, but I still gave them to Hopkins. 6-4 is puzzling.

I would switch 4 and 8 but I can’t see how you can give a 10-9 pascal round and then give three more rounds past the first three. Just really really weird.

Ha ha there’s the rub, there isn’t any. He must have scored the two KD rounds 10-9 rounds.

Yeah, to make it 114-114 there can’t be a 10-8 unless he’s given a host of 10-10.

Whatever happened to even rounds? I could make a acse for the 12th being an even round.

Ok so there would need to be two 10 – 10 rounds then. Maybe the first and the last?

Even rounds are rare for judges, especially two in a card. I don’t have that big a problem with even rounds, just some judges don’t give them.
