Hernandez-Ismailov just started on Polsat

So maybe the German broadcast will show it after the main event, like they sometimes do. Usually ZDF did that more than ARD though.

Hernandez KO-1. Knocked Ismailov out through the ropes. Referee counted to 10 and that was it. I always thought you got 20 seconds if you get knocked out of the ring, but whatever.

Povetkin is fighting more aggressively and mixing up his punches better

But I feel like he’s regressed in other ways that make his time with Teddy Atlas a net neutral. Teddy is indeed in the corner, asking for more head movement.

He IS a very different fighter now than he was two years ago. I just don’t know if it’s actually an improvement.

I just don’t see the improvement… Sure his combinations are a little smarter because he picks his punches well, but he’s hardly facing opponents that throw back… Is he in a better position to beat Klitschko than he was two/three years ago? I really don’t think he is.

It’s really hard to say because he’s faced such shit opponents since that fight, changed his style completely, and doesn’t look like he has that hunger that he had when he overwhelmed Chambers in their first fight. I’d still pick him, but not as wide.

Huck-Lebedev Round 1

Both guys a bit tentative to start out, posturing in the middle of the ring, but Lebedev is the one pushing forward, landing a few jabs to the body. Lebedev comes in and hits Huck with a right hook, Huck comes back with a couple of big swings, and starts throwing out the jab. Lebedev forward behind a combo that gets blocked. Lebedev with an uppercut and Huck swings back. About 30 seconds left and Huck picks up the pace, starts throwing his right hand. Lebedev with a 1-2, and Huck comes back over the top with a counter right.

Round a bit on the slow side, but I have to give it to the aggressor.

Huck-Lebedev Round 2

Lebedev still coming forward throwing punches one at a time at the body. Huck with a wild overhand right that lands and seems to send Lebedev off balance. Huck finding the range with his jab a bit now. Lebedev with a nice right cross to the body. Both men staying at a distance. Lebedev misses with a big shot, Huck turns him around and tries to pounce, but Lebedev blocks everything. Huck with a few wide hooks, but Lebedev seems to get out of the way of everything. As usual, Huck is fighting in spurts, while Lebedev is much more consistently throwing, but mostly one at a time. At the bell, Huck lunges forward and Lebedev literally jumps out of the way like a matador and Huck goes flying into the middle of the ring.

Huck-Lebedev Round 3

Ledebev pressing forward and Huck comes in with a flurry of power shots that mostly gets blocked but gets the crowd going. A couple of BIG body shots by Lebedev. Lebedev is mostly getting Huck to circle around the ropes, but he turns Lebedev around in a corner and lands a couple of straight-ish shots. Huck lunges in and misses and Lebedev catches him with a counter. The two are starting to wrestle a bit now, with Huck doing 99% of the holding. Some more nice body work by Lebedev. Huck with an overhand right that lands a couple seconds before the bell.

Round 3

Starts with a good flurry from Huck after Denis misses another big punch. Denis comes back after Huck misses a homerun shot of his own. Huck is getting better but still feels like he is waiting for something. Awesomeshot by Huck to win the round.

Huck-Lebedev Round 4

Lebedev starting to put punches together a little more, trying to set up the left with a jab. Nice left hook to the body by Lebedev. Lebedev getting really aggressive to the body now. Huck turns him around again and hits him on the back of the head. Huck misses a right hand and gets countered by a right hook. Lebedev gets Huck against the ropes and Huck turns him around once more, landing a couple of big hooks that he winged out of nowhere. Lebedev, undeterred, keeps pushing forward and is really focusing on power shots to the body. Lebedev with a straight 1-2 that splits the guard. The two exchange a bit at the end of the round, with Huck probably getting the better of the exchange. Huck had his moments, but that was another Ledebev round for me. I wonder how well his body attack will play with the judges though. Huck’s shots certainly are flashier.

Huck comes back with a right hand of his own that lands square. Huck warned again for pulling Lebedev’s head down. Huck with a flurry that gets Lebedev to lay off a bit. Lebedev with a series of lefts, downstairs, then upstairs, then downstairs again. Lebedev with a jab, but Huck counters with a hard right hand that snaps his head back. Huck with another big right that connects. Both men are breathing through their mouths now, so we’ll see if stamina becomes an issue. Lebedev corners Huck, who counters and appears to knock down Lebedev, but Eddie Cotton calls it a slip.

10-9 Huck
48-47 Lebedev

If the fight keeps going like this, scoring could be all over the map. A lot of hard rounds to score.

Huck-Lebedev Round 6

Eddie Cotton screaming at Ulli Wegner to wipe the corner up, forgetting he speaks German. Lebedev with a nice right uppercut at the bottom of the belt and Cotton warns him for a low blow. Lebedev stalking forward again, throwing combinations to the body. Lebedev keeps getting Huck cornered, but can’t seem to capitalize. Lebedev winging some wild shots now, but not landing. Huck firing back with wild shots of his own! Huck with a stiff right hand that snaps Lebedev’s head back, and Lebedev fires back with a combination of hooks. Great action in the last minute there, and another very close round.

Huck-L:ebedev Round 7

Lebedev coming forward, trying to establish the jab, but stay out of the range of Huck’s right hand. Lebedev with a big combo, right lead to the head, left uppercut to the body. Huck sort of taking the first half of this round off. Lebedev throws a right hand and Huck just grabs it and forces his way into a clinch. Huck now throwing, and connects with another lead right. Lebedev with a right hook that gets blocked. Huck just never really got into a rhythm this round, leading to what is easily the most convincing round of the fight.

Huck-Lebedev Round 8

Ulli Wegner sounds mad at Huck, screaming at him. Huck already looks a bit more active early in this roound. Lebedev goes back to the body, which has been wide open for him all fight. Stiff jab lands by Lebedev. Huck lands a punch, and Lebedev pushes him backwards behind a series of punches. Huck fakes a clinch and then lands an overhand right. Lebedev caught in the corner for a second there, and Huck with a big flurry, landing a couple of power shots. Lebedev with the first proper uppercut of the evening. Oddly, Huck has the reach advantage, but right now Lebedev’s form is so much better than he’s just landing with the jab first. Another low shot by Lebedev, and Cotton gives his second warning, clearly stating he’ll dock a point for the next one.

Maybe it’s just a stylistic thing, but I have trouble giving a round like that to Huck. His one good moment was better than anything Lebedev did in the round, but Lebedev consistently outworked and outlanded Huck the rest of the round. But I could see someone giving it to Huck on the strength of that one fflurry.

Huck-Lebedev Round 9

Huck starting to look a bit deflated. Huck with a jab and Lebedev counters with a left hook that lands on the chin. Lebedev with a couple of combos that push Huck backwards. I can’t understand German, but it seems like Lebedev is winning over a big chunk of the crowd, as they are now reacting when he lands shots as well. Huck with an overhand right, but he inexplicably hasn’t been throwing it much the last few rounds. Lebedev with his equivalent of a shoeshine flurry, which is still about four power shots in a row. Huck now opting to hug instead of fire back.

On replay, that counter hook was great. Same shot that he knoicked Alexeev out with.

Cut over Lebedev’s eye is ruled from a punch.

Huck-Lebedev Round 10

Huck is trying to land the overhand right again, but Lebedev has made an adjustment and is getting out of the way. Huck finally lands the right again and the crowd goes bonkers. Part of the problem is that for every punch Huck throws, Lebedev throws three or four. Both men slip in the corner of the ring. Huck with a flurry in the middle, but nothing lands clean. Huck lands a body shot, and Huck is intent on turning this into a Huck fight now – clinching, holding and hitting, rabbit punching. We’ve seen all of that this round, and Lebedev seems a bit flustered. It was dirty, but Huck came back in a big way late there.

Huck-Lebedev Round 11

Lebedev’s cut seems to be under control. Both guys a bit tentative to start the round. Lebedev pushes Huck back into a corner and lands a lead left. Huck with an overhand right falling into a clinch. Both guys are headhunting a bit now, throwing straight punches with their lead hands and not setting it up with much. Both guys infighting dirty now. Huck puts Lebedev in a headlock. Lebedev with a right hook over the top. Lebedev gets Huck in a corner, flurries, but doesn’t land much. This round was there for the taking at the end, and he just couldn’t quite take it. Another very close round, but I lean Huck with this one

Huck-Lebedev Round 12

Lebedev establishing the range with his jab. Both guys sticking to the gameplan in the 12th, despite a close fight – both trying to win the round, but neither going for the KO. Lebedev with a flurry of body shots, Huck sort of throws him and punches him to the back of the head as he’s falling past Huck. Huck dancing around backwards now, acting as if he’s got this one in the bag. Huck comes forward and nails Lebedev with a bit headbutt. Undeterred, Lebedev backs Huck into the ropes and unleashes a few more body shots. Huck throwing a few punches, but they’re wild and missing pretty badly. The two trade in the last 10 seconds, but Lebedev is the one who lands punches. A pretty wide Lebedev round there, IMO. Huck will be pissed he took the round off if the cards are as close as I think they might be.

The Bad Part

Is that Huck will never grant Lebedev a rematch. My opinion is that if the rematch ever happened that Denis would absolutely destroy Huck and that most scorecards will resemble 117-111 if he doesn’t KO him. Denis just needed to throw more punches during the fight instead of wildly swinging with that hook. He started to do it by the end of the fight realizing that the straight punches found their way through Huck’s fairly pathetic guard.
