Mandatory Eight Count: Anthony Mundine Is the New Russell Crowe
Cotto, Juanma Head To Cali To Discuss March Returns (BoxingScene.com)
Miguel Cotto is headed out to Anaheim for tomorrow's Top Rank PPV, where he'll meet with Bob Arum to talk about a March return. The biggest fight on the table is a shot at middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez at a 155-pound catchweight. Juan Manuel Lopez will also meet with Arum to talk about a return in March in Puerto Rico. Cotto and Lopez won't be on the same card in March no matter what happens, because those are two TV dates they can sell.

Nonito Donaire, Humberto Soto need wins now for future's sake (USA Today)
USA Today reckons that because Chavez-Gomez was dropped, and then Chavez-Wolak was dropped, the new main event Saturday is the eight rounder between Wolak and Jose Pinzon.
Henrietta King, wife of Don King, dies after lengthy illness (ESPN)
Don King's wife Henrietta passed away at the age of 87. She was married to Don for about 50 years. Our condolences to Don and his family.
Not Exactly Shangri-La: Bradley & Alexander Meet at the Silverdome (The Cruelest Sport)
When it comes to boxing economics, I think our friend Carlos Acevedo of The Cruelest Sport does about as good a job as you can in explaining exactly why things are screwy, and this piece on Bradley-Alexander at the f-ing Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich., is a good one. I would only add that the 93,173 number for WrestleMania III is fudged; it was something around 78,000 in reality.
Choc to do a Rusty and move to US (Sydney Morning Herald)
Anthony Mundine says he's going to move to the U.S. at the advice of pal Russell Crowe, who moved to the U.S. in search of bigger acting roles. Do note that Anthony Mundine says a lot of things, and if he winds up living and fighting in Miami, he'll probably just fight Jesse Nicklow or Bronco McKart or Marcus Upshaw anyway.
Christy Martin leaving husband for woman at time of attack (Orlando Sentinel)
Jim Martin, who allegedly shot and stabbed his wife, famous female boxer Christy Martin, apparently committed the heinous act after being told she was leaving him for a woman. Jim Martin was arrested Tuesday, and has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a weapon.
Mormeck edges Ibragimov in Paris (Yahoo! Eurosport)
Former cruiserweight champion Jean Marc Mormeck continues his heavyweight climb at age 38 with a win over Timur Ibragimov in Paris. Scores were fairly close (116-111, 116-112, 113-115) for the split decision, but this one isn't being reported anywhere as a robbery like Mormeck's win over Fres Oquendo. The victory also gives Mormeck the WBA international heavyweight title, so I suspect David Haye will probably rematch Mormeck sometime in 2011 while claiming the Klitschkos want nothing to do with him.

That's great
Good article overall. Carlos’s snarkiness has grown on me considerably, although I still think he sometimes misdirects it.

HHmmmm. The Christy Martin saga is now taking on a new and ---how shall I say---interesting
twist.
I don't take personal insults well. My wires are such so that when it happens, i'm not going to put on head gear, lace up the gloves and put in the mouthpiece. I'm going to drop the gloves and just let the adrenaline take off.
Nothing At All Excuses Knives & Guns
but that level of apparent betrayal is hard to deal with—the leading-two-lives kind of betrayal, like that ex-Governor of N.J. Never brings out the best in anyone, any of it, and destabilizes some. That said, the situation appears to illustrate the truism that it’s when women try to leave that they get hurt, and that’s worse. You can’t hang on to anybody, once they want to go.

Even if it's a woman she is leaving the poor bloke for. Unreal. Adios Christy and really adios Jim.

wow…..incredible amount of important news in this thread. Kings’ wife dying, Martin dumping her husband for a woman (is that a thing a coal miners’ daughter would do? I guess so)…..Mormec defeating Ibragimov is interesting, ,,, but Mundine moving to the US is the weirdest thing I’ve heard of in a while. His post 9/11 comments will come back to haunt him. I don’t think he will be a success here…..unless people show up to throw stuff at him.

He won’t have to worry about that. No one will show up at all since if he moves to the US (he won’t) he’ll just fight guys nobody knows.

Martinez crushes Cotto
unless the weight drain weakens him way too much, which I’m guessing his people are confident won’t happen since they obviously want the money and noteriety the fight would bring. I expect that Manny Steward sees this and will strongly advise Cotto against a Martinez fight.
Something like:
“You’re a great welterweight who can also fight very well at 154. He has become a very strong middleweight. Stick with men in your own weight class for now.”
don't forget to remind Cotto that he's not Tommy Hearns or anything
