Facepokegate: Mayweather Charged With Battery
In what is probably the silliest-sounding of all the current legal troubles hounding Floyd Mayweather Jr., TMZ reports that Mayweather has been hit with a battery charge as a result of the recent incident where he allegedly poked a security guard in the face inside his gated community.
According to the documents, [Shayne] Smith alleges Mayweather screamed that the guard had "no f*cking business" touching his personal property -- before the boxer grabbed a citation from one of his cars and slapped it on Smith's patrol vehicle.
The document continues, "While lambasting Smith, Mayweather was allegedly jabbing his finger into the left side of Smith's cheek just below his eye. This willful and unlawful use of force and violence upon Smith caused redness and discoloration to the area which was battered by Mayweather."
Mayweather's camp has said nothing about the matter at this time. Floyd is also facing multiple charges for alleged assault on the mother of his children, and was recently alleged to have committed vehicular assault against the man who last year was shot at while at a skating rink in Las Vegas, which also allegedly involved Mayweather.
Mayweather last fought in May, defeating Shane Mosley by unanimous decision in Las Vegas. There have been no serious fight talks for Floyd since the last round of "negotiations" fell apart to match Floyd with Manny Pacquiao, the other man making claim to boxing's mythical pound-for-pound crown.

I suppose you can poke a fellow pretty hard and if you do it enough it’ll mark up, and really it’s not something that should be allowed…but at the same time, it’s just a finger poke.

Has he been randomly tested lately.
Who knows?
It might be the steroids raging….
At the very least, he needs some counseling for anger management.
Every poke could cost him another day in court.
It’s like throwing money away.
That's a pretty hard poke..
..if it bruises you and leaves a mark…and unless that security guard is frail as shit, I don’t see how a poke can leave someone marked up.
There’s a bone there that bruises pretty easily. It could happen.

Where?
Most fight fans would not spend a dime to watch Van Gogh paint 'Sunflowers', but they would fill Yankee Stadium to see him cut off his ear. (Bill Nack)
yeah
I’ve taken a good shot from a toddler there and bruised up before. It was quite a game of hide-and-go-seek.

not just a finger poke
it’s assault… it’s physically imposing your will on another human being in a hostile and intimidating manner. it’s provocative at the very least . i mean, if a professional boxer came up to you and poked you under your eye, how would you feel? i’d feel terrible because i would know that physically responding wouldn’t be a viable option … i’d be thinking … i gotta either tuck tail and take it, or go and get my gun. the law needs to punish floyd’s behavior to provide a reasonable alternative to escalating violence.
Hard poke or not, would any of you really want to get jabbed with a finger like that? Especially by a guy who can punch like Floyd?
I don't know much - but I know that I don't.

no, that's what I'm saying
But I guess if I’m going to get poked in the face, I’d prefer it be by someone who made tens of millions of dollars for his last fight.

Floyd may not like Manny
But he does love money.
This habit of his of getting himself mixed up with one fool thing after another is going to cost him time and time again.
It may in the end either be the reason he never steps foot in the ring again…or the reason he does. I’m betting the latter.
BTW…I do not mean to suggest the domestic battery charges and the threats to his children are merely ‘fool things’ They are crimes. And very serious ones at that.
He’s going to need money badly, and there’s no reason why Roger can’t coach him right now—those cases drag on forever, there’s plenty of time. And because Pacquiao actually fights, never mind with whom, he is now the publicly perceived non-ducker (as he should be), meaning FMJr needs MP more so than the other way to.

Not Just Any Poke in the Face
It does sound ridiculous the way it’s put, but he has not business laying a finger on anywone—nobody does. Were you to get into some parking lot altercation with someone and did that to them, some of them at least would press charges and win. Plus which, that’s like having a size-reduced version of Sonny Liston poking you in the face—there’s a reason why boxer’s hands used in anger are legally defined as lethal weapons in most if not all U.S. states. Not sure if that means only a closed fist, but—a toddler’s pokes these were not. Mainly, it’s just more bullying (physical bullying), but since that’s not acceptable and he actually hostilely touched the guy’s face, I have no problem with more consequences for Lil Floyd.

Ditto both comments, BA
With one caveat. The promoters and HBO will be very reluctant to invest with these legal matters hanging over his head. They have to be able to maintain promotional schedules for a fight of the magnitude of a Mayweather match. Like any investor, they won’t take unnecessary risks. Anf the likelihood of some judge legitimately scheduling an appearance, etc. in court that interferes with the needs of HBO, etc is too great a risk NOW.
Floyd will have to spend his own money first….and reduce the risk before others follow.
It cause redness AND discoloration!!!
