Glen Johnson ready to fight Tavoris Cloud in March

Glen Johnson, 41, says he's ready to fight again in just six weeks if it means a shot at IBF light heavyweight titlist Tavoris Cloud.

Do they come any tougher than Glen Johnson?

This is a 41-year-old man that just banged out Yusaf Mack in six rounds this past Friday night on ESPN2, winning a title shot at IBF light heavyweight beltholder Tavoris Cloud. Johnson had just lost a wide 12-round decision in November to Chad Dawson.

And now, Johnson tells Ryan Burton that he's ready to go for March 26, the date ESPN is holding for Cloud:

BoxingScene.com:  This big win on ESPN was an eliminator to fight Tavoris Cloud for the IBF lightweight title.  Have you heard anything on when and where that fight will take place?

Glen Johnson:  I think in as little as 6 weeks.  March 27th (note: it's actually March 26) was a date that was thrown at me.  I heard ESPN has that date reserved for Tavoris.  I don't yet for sure.  By the end of this week or next week I should know a little bit more.  They are negotiating right now.

This is a schedule that would test any boxer. Chad Dawson in November, Yusaf Mack in early February, Tavoris Cloud just six weeks after that. Take into account that Cloud is a fresh, 28-year-old, high-workrate pressure fighter, and it's even more admirable.

After all these years, "The Road Warrior" is still fearless, and still a great credit to the sport of boxing.

Over the last week and change, we've talked plenty about how good of a fight Cloud-Johnson will be. Anybody got a solid favorite yet?

HEART vs HEAD

Damn I respect Glenncoffee Johnson and what he has accomplished in the sport of boxing, not to mention the good ambassador hes been for the sport. He is still a tough as nails wily vetran, I’m just not convinced he has enough left to hold off the young fresh hungry Tavoris Cloud. I think Cloud presents a way tougher challenge than Yusef Mack, and IF I had to put money on this I’ll have to pick Cloud. This is definately an instance where I’d be happier being wrong. Peace!!

He may realize his time is limited

If he puts off the fight, there’s no telling if he can hold up for later. He’s taking what he can get as his career comes to an end.

I know I'm really getting really analytical here but

the only question is whether the “Road Warrior” can hurt Cloud. If he can, I think he wins, if he can’t, he loses. Cloud will be there to get hit, as will Glen. I really hope Glen wins this one, such a likeable guy.

Also, great nickname – “Road Warrior” – what does it even mean? I don’t know but it sounds good – like some kind of Escape from Thunderdome reference or something.

Actually, mainly in the U.S and Europe:).
But i think some of the fights he lost in the US were against the house fighter. He has certainly been the victim of some controversial decisions.

A lot of his losses have come to the house fighter

Other than at the very beginning of his career and a few fights recently, he’s never really had the benefit of a home crowd, and usually he’s fought in his opponent’s backyard – Sheika in Philly, Ottke and Ulrich in Germany, Vanderpool in Nawlins, Branco in Itay, Gonzalez in California, Dawson in Connecticut, Woods (all three times) in the UK, etc. His people never properly developed him a following near Miami, so his entire career more money was to be made by going into where the other fighter had a fan base.
