Frank Warren: "Khan Still Needs Work"
Promoter Frank Warren spoke with BoxingScene.com about his split with Amir Khan, which he maintains shocked him. He also is worried about what will happen with Khan, saying, "[Khan] still needs work. I don't think Golden Boy Promotions is in the business of building up fighters. Bob Arum is good at that but I don’t think [Golden Boy] are capable of that."

While I guess it is a valid point, you just know that if Khan had signed with Arum then Warren would be spouting reasons as to why that was the wrong move too. He’s just bitter. I don’t blame him though. I’d be pissed too if I helped mold, promote, and, to a minor extent, create a name only to have to bail on me on the eve of seeing the fighter through to international stardom. In fact, I’d probably hunt the kid down and Prescott him myself so, all things considered, Warren is taking it better than I would.
Had the same thought, though it is indeed a valid point. Golden Boy has been horrible at developing fighters.

Just imagine how the British Olympic Association felt
When they spent millions on training Khan and promoting him as an amateur in britain, for him to then promptly sign with Warren who made lots of money from him. Obviously this isn’t a real issue as it happens all the time but I was speaking to the Minister for Sports (at some reception for athletes thing in London) and he was particularly annoyed with Khan because of the amount put into to training him for the Olympics. He said it was only fair that a promoter or boxer should pay some/ all of that back to the government.
This is a fairly novel idea but the more I think about it, the more I think he has a good point.

MP’s are fine one to be taking the moral high ground.
I wouldn’t accept adviceon how to act from any MP seen as more or less all of them have been found to be claiming false expenses to top up their already considerable salaries and benefits.
They are all hypocrites.
Hardly any top amateur stays amateur (unless he’s a Cuban) when they can set themselves up for life in the pro’s.
The government may have invested in him but Khan won the silver medal so i would think that repaid the investment.
to top up their already considerable salaries and benefits
Proportionatley MPs are actually paid rather poorly considering how important their jobs are. Of course this doesn’t justify the expenses “crisis”, and is skewed at the high levels of politics due to Ministers taking other board positions and directorships, but I still feel it’s a touch unfair to say they are in over paid.
In addition to this the then Sports Minister, Richard Caborn, has since been involved in another little scandal which was reported in the Private Eye; however I don’t see that him being morally flawed in certian areas stops him being knowledgable about the issue at hand.
I know, I know, no politics…

I never said they were overpaid.I said they had ‘considerable salaries and benefits’ already, before trying to claim fraudulent expenses
I aestimate the average MP’a wage in the UK to be £50,000 approx.
Thats double the average wage and i’d say they are quite well paid considering they spend a lot of time in the House of Commons bar or asleep on the paliament benches.
I would like to discuss this but I suppose I should also observe the rules
Politics isn’t as important as boxing anyway!

Ok.No Politics.:).
Saying this about Khan though, you would have to say the same thing about DeGale,Gavin,Saunders,Jeffries and Price, would you not?
They all had major investment in them up to the 2008 Olympics and turned pro afterwards. And all but one of them achieved less than Khan.
Gavin didn’t even make the weight!
Shouldn’t they pay the investment back too?
Khan has only done to Warren what loads of boxers do when they get to a certain stage of their careers.
I'm not saying I agree with the idea
And it’s unlikely that it’ll ever happen, but in some ways it would be fair. Perhaps the glory of the medal is enough, I think it should be, but what about the ones who don’t win anything?

But if promoters are paying the BOA money when they take fighters that have been heavily invested in, like Khan, it will enable the BOA to put that money back into a new prospect. Ultimately, just because they’re politicians doesn’t mean this is necessarily a bad idea.

TRAMPLER
Top Rank has the best matchmaker in the business in Bruce Trampler, don’t think he doesn’t play a big part in watching a fighters progress and recommending his next opponent which is how you develop your fighter. And love him or hate him Arum has been in the game a lot longer that GBP, and has the top guys in the sport on his team. That being said if I was Warren I’d be disappointed too, but such is the nature of this business.
I feel like he's been off his game lately
Or someone has been vetoing him upstairs. The mismatches coming out of the Top Rank stable are becoming really blatant. It was one thing when they were just trying to fill dead air on cable TV, but I feel like TR is losing out on a lot of real money now that they’ve been running these minor cards as small PPVs for the last few years.
