The official HBO poster for the March 6 Boxing After Dark show featuring junior welterweight titleholders Devon Alexander and Juan Urango. Since there is absolutely nothing even near the lowest rung of HBO quality on the undercard, it's going to be a one-fight show.

I like the poster actually
That undercard has gotten decimated. Forbes-Rees and Spinks-Bundrage were supposed to both be on the undercard; one never signed, and the other got postponed because Cory’s trying to look like Leon.

the poster
This is “The Other Design” the HBO graphics team has. This one doesn’t have fire or lightning. Instead, they choose to position text to indicate speed or something. I’ll call this one the “Life in the Fast Lane” design. Previously seen:

It looks about twenty times better than the fire an dlightning stuff
Not that that’s saying much!

it's better for sure
I’ve fucking had it with fire.
Actually the HBO posters aren’t usually so bad, generally it’s Top Rank’s people with all the goddamn fire and crap. What bugs me about boxing posters now is they’re all stuck with that, like, Demolition Man vision of what the world would be like in 2010.

Do you have any more info on the undercard?
I may be going to this show and would like to know more about what to potentially look out for or miss.
as of now (and some of this is likely to change, but not for the better)
Steve Forbes (34-7, 10 KO) v. Harrison Cuello (18-12-3, 14 KO)
—To put it bluntly, Cuello is just a journeymen and generally gets his ass kicked by anyone remotely decent.
Derric Rossy (23-2, 13 KO) v. Zack Page (20-27-2, 7 KO)
—Rossy should be way beyond this fight, even though he’s not very good, but here it is.
Juan Ubaldo Cabrera (17-0, 13 KO) v. Durrell Richardson (12-3, 5 KO)
—Prospect proving ground sort of fight for Cabrera, who’s sort of a prospect but is also 30.
Marcus Oliveira (19-0-1, 15 KO) v. Jerson Ravelo (20-4, 12 KO)
—Best fight on the undercard, expect Ravelo to get stopped. Oliveira is also 30, but did toast Otis Griffin in two rounds last year, two months after Griffin went ten tough rounds in a disputed loss to Jeff Lacy.
And then a couple more insignificant fights.

For the record though
Zack Page is the best damn 20-27 fighter in the world. It’s not saying much, but he’s another one of those “what if” guys. He’s better than a lot of local main event fighters, but because he’s always coming in on short notice and in the opponent’s backyard, plus has to hold a day job, he’s never had a real chance. Give the man 6 weeks to train, and he’d beat someone like Brian Minto pretty badly, IMO.

To elaborate
He’s only 6-10-1 in his last 17 fights. All but one of his opponents had winning records, and all but three of the guys are recognizable names.
He has recent wins over Sebastian Koeber (19-0 prospect), Hector Ferreyro (a local attraction in Laredo who Page was brought in to lose to), Kassim Howard (undefeated HW prospect who’s been on 2 or 3 FNF shows), Mean Gene Hill (16-0 prospect, and local Houston attraction) and Cisse Salif (a solid journeyman himself), plus a draw against Jason Gavern.
Losses came to guys like Michael Sprott (recent title challenger), Hino Ehikamenor (Contender runner-up), Mike Perez (hotshot Cuban prospect), Kubrat Pulev (probably my favorite of the HW prospects at the moment), Jason Estrada, Guillermo Jones, etc. Combined record of the guys he’s lost to is ridiculous, and more than once he’s been the last minute replacement just to show up for a paycheck.
90% of the time he’s the smaller man in the ring too. Naturally, he’s a smallish cruiserweight when he trains, and he hasn’t been knocked out in about 4 years.
Rossy’s already beat him once before, so there’s no real suspense, and there’s no reason to think it will actually be a good fight (Page isn’t really fun to watch, he’s just a lot better than the credit he’s given), but I just wanted to give the man a little bit of props.
At some point I might to a series or an article on these guys who make a living as journeymen but who, under different circumstances, could have been contenders.
