"[Timothy Bradley and I] still have unfinished business between us. But for now everyone gives him a pass. That's f***ed up. We have 2 close rounds, then he fouls me with his big ass buckethead, mashing my eyeball so I cant see, but I'm the asshole? Whatever man."
-- Nate Campbell speaking with Rick Reeno of BoxingScene.com

I disagree that there was anything close about Bradley-Campbell's first two rounds, but you can never deny that Nate Campbell is a funny dude.

Campbell-Ortiz?

That would be interesting. I think Ortiz could definitely tag Campbell a couple of times but Campbell is a guy that comes hard late in the fight and would makes this interesting. If Nate wins I’m gonna start calling him the prospect killer.

What other prospects did he kill? Diaz was a three-body lightweight titlist when Nate beat him, far from a prospect. He was the #1 guy in the division. And Ortiz already got ripped by Maidana, it’s not like anyone thinks he’s some can’t-miss star anymore.

Yeah he had the three-titles but the wins over Acelino Frietas, Julio Diaz, and Fernando Angulo didn’t strike me as that impressive save for the Frietas win and Frietas hasn’t fought since Diaz. It seemed that Campbell was the real test for Diaz, if he could pass it he was legit. However the hype machine didn’t stall too long after Diaz’s loss to Campbell cause he came back to beat Katsidis, but i digress. Now Ortiz is back on the comeback trail, I guess he can be called a prospect again and it seems like he is in a similar situation to Diaz. Namely if he beats Campbell, he will be considered legit again.

Diaz was universally considered the No. 1 fighter in the division. Campbell had to earn a shot at him. There weren’t many people struggling to consider him “legit.” He was dominating everyone he fought. I agree it was a weak lightweight division at the time for sure, but he was past prospectdom.

It was mos def a weak division problem. I also consider people prospects for waaayyyy too long. I still consider Haye and Adamek prospects at HW mostly because they haven’t faced a Klitschko yet, but they would not be a prospects at cruiserweight. I guess unproven is more of the word I am looking for…..

I like that

Anyone who hasn’t faced a Klitschko at HQW is still a prospect! It’s funny but probably the only fair way to look at it!

of course but kidding himself in thinking he was in the fight isn’t helping him any.
