Shane Mosley talks with The Rumble about Mayweather, Pacquiao-Clottey and Margarito. His feelings on Margarito might surprise you, but he's held this stance (it was all Capetillo's fault) since the incident occurred. I think it's incredibly naive and even stupid to think Margarito just sat there not knowing about anything foreign on his wraps, but for whatever reason (conspiracy theorists go nuts), there are plenty of people within boxing that seem to be fairly forgiving on this issue.

I also believe that it's insane to think
that Margarito couldn’t have known that his wraps were doctored.
Taking a chance on being blasted however, I want to ask if you or anyone who reads this can answer these questions—
I know what I’ve read about the wraps, and looking at a past case I can see how fully Resto and Lewis went out of their way to make Resto’s hands as dangerous as possible, but I don’t quite understand (beyond not taking the stuffing out of Margarito’s gloves) if Antonio was as “loaded.” I mean, and this might not be of any interest to anyone else, but can one be trying to put a protective (while very illegal) layer over a fighter’s hands? I don’t know how much plaster was used and I don’t know how much difference that makes, if any. Either way, obviously, what was done was illegal, but could a very thin layer not make a fighter’s hands into killer hands so much as give protection to injured hands?
Again, I realize nobody might care about this question, but I’m curious.
Not interested in “defending” Margarito, but ready to be blasted as well.
Basically, protection will come down to the dissipation of energy around the hand. The best way to accomplish this is with soft materials and not hard materials. Soft materials will take away a bunch of the energy by compressing, and not letting the energy transfer to the hand (specifically the small bones in the hands). Hard materials will not compress at all and simply transfer all of the energy to the hand. This is also why amateurs use big gloves, more soft material. Hopefully that was helpful.
Yes--
thanks, that was helpful, and I appreciate it.

That's not quite correct.
Sometimes having something hard can prevent damage to yourself. Otherwise there would be no point using wraps, since they are harder than the padding in the glove….
Some people are acting like Pacquiao should be expected to have just gone, "Yeah sure, let’s do something I’ve never done before because your dad made some dumbass baseless comment."

Remember, Shane’s defense to the BALCO controversy was that he didn’t know that he was taking steroids — he was unwittingly given them by unscrupulous trainers.
Optimistically, then (i.e., assuming that story is true), he’d be quite prone to think another fighter could be taken advantage of that way. After all, it happened to him.
Cynically (assuming it is just a story), it is to his advantage for people to think that fighters are, in fact, taken advantage of in this way. It clears his history just as much as it does Margarito.
I Know What You Mean
Shane might feel he can’t be too critical of a cheat when he himself has admitted to cheating in the past, although he claims he didn’t know he was using illegal ped’s.
Shane’s a good dude I think. Compare that interview to a Floyd interview.
"Yes Gina, I am a Wise Cracker"
i agree
the interview with Shane shows a decent person… not a trash talker compared to his opponent who keeps trashing Manny even though Floyd’s fight is with Shayne.. Floyd can’t keep his mout shut about Manny.
