WBA junior welterweight titlist Amir Khan and Paulie Malignaggi got together for a press conference in London. The two meet on May 15 in New York.

Oscar de la Hoya called the matchup the "Fight of the Year." In other news, Oscar de la Hoya is insane.

Any chance

You could put together a Greatest Hits of ODLH quotes since his retirement?! To be fair, the astonishment at what he says is funnier a lot of the time than the actual quotes themselves

Yeah, since he became a full-time promoter.

He has succumbed to promoter’s habits of exaggeration and sometimes, lies.

I don’t think it was that much different when he was a fighter.

Paulie

I hope Paulie whipps Khan and his Glass Jaw

Yeah, right

This is a match-up of the resistable force and the movable object. I’ll let you decide who is which.

A Pete Rose by any other name would still smell of cheap hookers and pinetar.

Malignaggi is not easy to hurt by any stretch. Cotto broke his whole face and he hung in there. And Hatton would not have gotten him out of there without Buddy McGirt not letting Paulie take any more of that, baby.

Yeah, Paulie is the resistable force.

When he hit Diaz flush and hurt him in their last fight, he looked looked like he’d just seen his mother naked.

I think Paulie was even more surprised than I was when he hurt Diaz.

Mitchell v Katsidis

has been moved to May 15th as most of you will know.
Does this mean Sky will be doing a double ppv show, even though Warren is not linked to Khan?
I Khan’t see Amir losing ppv money to Mitchell/Katsidis.

by Matt (Yorkshire) on Mar 12, 2010 12:23 PM EST reply actions

They could run both. Khan-Paulie won’t start until late UK time, whereas Mitchell-Katsidis can just go on at 5 local time like normal.

I know but i mean will Khan want to split the ppv money with the others when he had the date to himself originally?
I’m sure Mitchell will bring a few viewers in himself.Maybe they’ll just work out who will bring what and divide up the loot accordingly.

by Matt (Yorkshire) on Mar 12, 2010 1:05 PM EST up reply actions

They would run two different shows that day, one on Box Office and one on regular Sky.

Maybe they’ll put it on Sky Sports for free in the run up to the Khan v Malignaggi fight.

by Matt (Yorkshire) on Mar 12, 2010 12:31 PM EST reply actions

Am I a horrible boxing fan to hate Malignaggi because his KO rate is so low? Am I supposed to appreciate his slickness? Maybe he’ll catch Khan while he’s cold and get big number six.

"hate" makes you kind of horrible, yes

But his style not being for you is not a big deal.

If Paulie can hurt Baby Bull, he can hurt Khan

by gunranger on Mar 12, 2010 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

If Willie Limond can put Khan on his ass, Paulie can.

Personally, I think this is an intriguing match up. Paulie, despite his lack of punching power, has often made some compelling fights.

Bold

I really like the seperation in picks for this one.
