Bad Left Hook Live Boxing Results and Commentary: Pacquiao-Clottey Undercard

We'll have TWO live threads tonight, the first for the undercard and the second for the main event. We're doing this because in the past on big shows, we've piled up 1000+ comments and things started getting a little slow for some people at around 6-700. I don't know if we'll really need it tonight, but for the major fights like this, this is how we'll be doing it from now on.

This post, obviously, is for the undercard. You can talk about the Pac-Clottey fight in here, but when the main event gets set to start, we'll switch over to the main event's thread.

The order of the fights will be: Castillo-Gomez, Duddy-Medina, and then the chief support, Soto-Diaz for the vacant WBC lightweight title.

Duddy-Medina R1

Duddy going to the body to start. Two rights to the body, slapping shots by Duddy. Left hook by Duddy inside. These guys are going to fight. Both are a bit tentative, actually. Neither pressing too hard. Right from Duddy to the arm. Medina got a nice jab in, then a left hook to the body after one of Duddy’s. Right to the body by Medina. Duddy with a left hook, not much on it. Left hook by Duddy slaps in again at the end of the round.

Duddy 10-9

by battle axe of doom on Mar 13, 2010 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

It had something to do with Decatur being essentially a midwestern mill town that was on hard times, but really identified with its school music program, which was utterly sacrosanct in all budget cuts. Music was always the first to go for all of its neighbors, but Decatur was really resistant, and she was studying why that was.

Duddy-Medina R2

Duddy with a right to the body. Jab upstairs by Duddy. Left hook Duddy, but then a couple of really nice shots by Medina. Medina honestly looks like the stronger puncher so far, which isn’t really too surprising. Duddy with some swiping shots. Left hook by Medina. Right by Medina doesn’t land square. Body shots by Duddy, one from Medina. Right to the body by Duddy. Left hook to the body by Duddy. One from Medina now. Right by Medina is blocked. Right missed by Duddy, but barely. Jab by Medina snaps Duddy’s head back. Both rounds have been close and solid so far. Good finish to the round too.

Left hook by Medina lands. Good right by Medina! Duddy doesn’t budge, though. If you can say anything about him, it’s that he’s fuckin’ tough. Medina barely misses that big right again. He was just short. Left hook Medina, not flush. Left hook to the body by Medina. With a minute left, this is his best round so far. Left hook by Medina blocked this time. Right hand by Duddy.

Duddy-Medina R5

Medina really has no polish whatsoever. I mean Duddy doesn’t have much, but Medina is all arm punching and no speed. This is turning into routine. Duddy is just better enough to pretty easily get through this fight. Medina is not good enough, and he’s hit Duddy flush and not budged him one bit. Medina gets a few shots in this round, but Duddy is controlling the pace and Medina has slowed down.

Medina with a 1-2. Duddy is really the guy coming forward most of the time, though. Medina doesn’t have many answers. Duddy opening the can with some good shots. Medina is getting really backed down now, But there’s a right from Medina! And a hook from Duddy! Yeah, here we go. This is all we want from this one. Duddy working away in close, but Medina just starts WINGING hard body shots. They’re really throwing leather now. Good round.

Duddy-Medina R7

Medina lands slightly low again, but ref doesn’t say anything and neither does Duddy, so it must’ve not been too low at all. Medina is starting to cut Duddy off inside. Right hand Duddy, and Medina then gets warned for a second time for low blows.

Medina has gotten himself back into this in my view, and you might have him more than in it. Actually I’d say Duddy has let him back in more than anything. Duddy is actually better than this guy, which is…y’know. BIG RIGHT BY MEDINA! Duddy shook there.

Duddy coming out throwing. Duddy opening up with good shots. He can’t shake Medina either. Best punch has been that right hand at the end of the last round from Medina. Medina clips him with another long rihgt. Winnable round with 45 seconds left. Two little lefts from Duddy. Medina stinging with a right and a left to the body, and Duddy backs down big. Two body shots by Medina, that was low.

ANd he’s going to get a point taken. Rightly so.

Duddy-Medina R10

Left hook to the body by Duddy. Slapping left hook from Medina. Medina with a little flurry with just under a minute left, but Duddy meets him. Medina has controlled the round, I’d say, but there’s still not much between them. Medina with a couple shots, but they END IT WARRING! GOOD GOD!

Soto-Diaz R2

Diaz’s lack of firepower and offensive skill is really going to be a problem with Soto, who can be aggressive and really open up. But he’s recovered well this round, even though he’s not winning the round. Lampley remarks that it’s “too easy” for Soto so far. Diaz has landed 1 power punch to Soto’s 15 this round according to that graphic. Good right by Soto.

Soto-Diaz R4

Soto is finding himself in the role of counter-puncher, and Diaz is even trying to take that away from him. More than Diaz doing anything successfully offensively, this is Diaz neutralizing what Soto likes to do offensively for the last two rounds. Soto needs to start getting off first and he’ll take this fight over.

Both guys are struggling to land anything clean now. Diaz is staying away from Soto, and they end with a rough exchange.
