Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Toney_20with_20cigar_20shot

"Don’t make wise cracks about my weight, because I’ve been working hard and the next time you see me, you’ll be shocked. Dana put his foot in his mouth and said UFC guys are better fighters than boxers. We’ll see. Everyone who knows anything about fighting knows I’m the purest fighter in the game. There ain’t no secrets."

-- UFC-bound James Toney (from Kevin Iole's Yahoo! Sports article)

He’s the ultimate death fighter.
Just like his Daddy taught him.

"Chris Eubank lost his recent comeback fight on points ... the main one being that he's a total git."

Side Check Kicks and everything.

He’s gonna get so smoked. Sean Sherk would demolish him, and he’s like 5’6" fighting at 155lbs.

The only way he presents an even semi-interesting profile is if Dana is super nice to him and gives him someone who literally has zero ground skills. I honestly can’t think of anyone who fits that description in the UFC…Houston Alexander used to be that guy at 205lbs, but they cut him after his fight against Kimbo.

interesting side note

Five or so years ago Toney was on the Best Damn Sports Show Period. Tito Ortiz was also on that day in another segment. Supposedly there was some sort of confrontation between Ortiz and Toney backstage. This is back when Ortiz was at the very top of MMA.

During Ortiz’s segment he put one of the hosts in a choke hold. When Toney came out for his segment he asked (something in the nature of) how the host could let a punk that like do that to him. He would have knocked him out. The host asked if Toney thought he really could. Toney replied, yes. Very easily. Ortiz was nothing but a joke.

Just something interesting that Ortiz and Toney already have some bad blood.

If he could make 205, he’d be in great shape

Agreed.

I don’t know any 205’ers that he could actually fight, though. It would have to be some failed prospect or something…can’t think of a good fit with name recognition.

Please, UFC, don’t give this clown a can. Give him someone who makes him look like a can.
