You know what… Tim Bradley might actually be impressed with Sergio’s abs…
"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."
Tim Bradley is impressed by no abs other than his own 12!

As best I can recall from watching the weigh-in, I believe he actually WAS up on his tip-toes for this shot. They were talking some pretty hyped-up trash to one another.

Yeah,must be.
i just checked some other pictures from the weigh-in and there does look to be a 3 or 4 inch height difference.
Suprised me when i read in SC’s preview that Martinez has the inch longer reach.
Martinez is coming off a (disputed) loss and is the smaller guy so he isn’t supposed to win,but then lots of things happen in boxing that aren’t supposed to.
I’m a bit suprised the vast majority are picking Pavlik.I totally understand the reasoning and think a late KO could well happen but if Martinez can get off to an early lead, trade when he has to with his respectable power and chin, and then get on his bike late on i see him pulling it off on points.
Kelly may even get stopped if he is damaged goods.
If abs
equaled victory, then Kelly would be toast.
Also, ferocity of dragon tattoos may help Martinez win the battle.

I must say Martinez is one ripped up dude. If he put out a fitness dvd I would definitely watch the abs section.
Does he still model for Adidas? I think they would worry about him getting smashed up.

martinez is gonna pull the upset
too much quickness and movement for pavlik, hopkins set the blueprint for beating pavlik.. i dont see this one going the distance, martinez tko8
Off subject – I see the sometimes imbecilic ones at Boxrec are rating the Mosley v Mayweather undercard as excellent with two 4 star bouts lined up before the big one;-
Daniel Ponce De Leon vs Cornelius Lock and Hector Saldivia vs Said Ouali.
I have only really seen De Leon fight and was not very impressed with his crude style.
Not sure about the rest and have heard conflicting reports about the quality of these fights.
Boxrec also have Hopkins still at no.2 P4P though so i tend to take their ratings with a pinch of salt.
Have you seen them guys fight much SC?
What do you think?
by Matt Mosley on Apr 17, 2010 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Ponce de Leon-Lock could be an exciting fight if Lock engages him. Saldivia-Ouali also has promise on paper. They’re not great fights, but they’re both decent Friday Night Fights-type scraps.

If Lock engages him… it might be lights out for him. DeLeon has rare one punch knockout power at the lower weight classes.
"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."
Ponce de Leon throws wide punches and if an opponet comes at him staright with shoirt shots, he will wax Ponce. JML set the blueprint for how to beat him. Lock could do it.

Lopez has world class power… I don’t think Lock has that ability.

I can easily see this fight taking a similar path to Abraham v Dirrell (minus the crappy finish),with Martinez in Dirrell’s place.
I can’t, because Pavlik doesn’t stand around waiting for people the way Abraham does. Pavlik punches a lot.

Yeah but he’ll miss with a lot of those. He might be bigger and stronger but Martinez is quicker and hits hard enough.
I’m not 100% sold on Martinez’s speed — not that I don’t think he’s fairly quick, but I don’t know how quick. It’s not like he’s Roy Jones or Floyd Mayweather. Everyone looks fast next to Kermit Cintron, except Alfredo Angulo.

man, I'm really excited for this fight
I love this matchup. I can see either of them giving the other guy real hell, and I can see this being a fantastic fight, too.

I cant really see any way of comparing the two fights.
Pavlik is taller than Martinez (considerably so), whereas Abraham is 5/6 inches smaller than Dirrell. Pavlik is a very active fighter: there’s just no chance Martinez comes in and out ala Dirrell without getting caught. Moreover, Martinez won’t get 4 free rounds without Pavlik throwing a punch (like Abraham).. Really, if Pavlik’s going to get beaten, it has to be because the other guy can either dominate him physically or hurt him enough to keep him off. Personally, as highly as I do rate Martinez, I can’t really see anything other than a Pavlik win, albeit I see it possibly going the distance.

I agree but I hope we are both wrong. I'm sick of Pavlik's excuses.

Ditto that - unless its a top performance and Kelly does fight Williams, I'd quite happily see him defeated.

You can compare them by saying Martinez and Dirrell are both slick counterpuncher’s and Pavlik and Abraham are stalkers who can bang (admittedly in different ways).
If Martinez can make him miss and counter him often enough he could pull it out on points.Pavlik deserves to be favourite but the odds are the same for this fight as they were for Abraham v Dirrell so it is by no means a foregone conclusion.
Not long till we find out.
Pavlik fanatics say poor KP lost to Hopkins because, among other things, he was coming up too far in weight. Well, if Martinez loses, I trust they will give him the same excuse.

Why does everything have to be an “excuse”? There are reasons people lose fights. Discussing those reasons isn’t making an excuse, it’s just being analytical and trying to understand why something happens, instead of just saying, “Well, that happened.” Mayweather pulls this all the time. Reasons are constantly called excuses by those who want to disagree.
And I like KP, did feel he probably came up too high in weight (by which I mean, he could not handle the weight well, not that the weight itself was “to blame”), and will say every day, all day, that Bernard Hopkins whupped his ass and there’s no two ways about it.

First, he had a virus, then he had a staph infection, then he had moved uop too far in weight, then there was a mix-up and he fought Espino instead of Williams. Your move.

I don’t let him being sick, which he may or may not have been and I don’t really care, affect how I saw that fight. He did have staph infection after the Rubio fight, though. That did happen. What was more questionable was him not taking care of it properly. And by “questionable” I mean “stupid.” Arum said he missed doctor appointments, which is just bizarre. You’re a boxer. You use your hands. And staph itself is no joke no matter where it is. Get it taken care of, dude.
There wasn’t a “mix-up” that had him fighting Espino instead of Williams. He wanted to again postpone the Williams fight, but Williams and Goossen Tutor said, “You know what? No. We’re taking a fight with a guy who we know will show up.” So instead of moving 12/5 to 12/19, they fought Martinez on 12/5. Williams needed to get a payday and a fight he knew would happen. I don’t blame him, either. I felt he had every right to basically say to Kelly Pavlik, “Call when you’re serious. We’re going somewhere else now.”
And I don’t have anything for Pavlik-Espino. That was a garbage fight, with all due respect to Espino, who did his best to make it exciting and really did come to win even though he had about a 1% chance of actually doing so.

There are reasons people lose fights.
Yeah, and the reason Pav lost was because Hopkins knew more and implemented a great gameplan.
I don’t believe bronchitis or weight had anything to do with it,seen has Hopkins was not long removed from middleweight.
Pavlik will always have trouble with slick, cutie type counterpunchers who use their intelligence.Hopkins may have been bigger than Martinez but Sergio will bring hand and foot speed to the table.
That’s why i think he have a very tough fight on his hands tonight.
I DO respect YOUR views, but there is a
imbecilic poster on another site who lives and breathes Kelly Pavlik in, well quite frankly, in a strange manner, and that poster is not very popular with about 30 new posters on BLH, That’s the real reason for the “excuse” thing. All that poster does is make excuses, but he does it with literally hundreds of posts. And anyone who disagrees with him knows nothing abouyt boxing, because after all, KP beat Lockett, Rubio, and Espino, and after all, KP is better than or as good as Monzon and Hagler were. That’s the real reason, Scott. We don’t like that poster and he had forced some of us not to like KP even though we respect his ability.

ah, well
Yeah — I’ve had that happen with certain fighters, too. It’s unavoidable really.
I really like Kelly Pavlik. He’s one of my favorite current fighters. But I’m not trying to have blinders on. Hopkins kicked his ass, and Pavlik could’ve felt better than he ever had in his life, and Hopkins was going to have taken him to school that night. Bernard was just too smart and too good for Kelly.

Yes. Hopkins would have won 9 out of 10 against him IMO
Kelly is my kind of fighter in that he is a stalker, stunner and killer (a phrase that this particular noxious poster from the other site has stolen from me). He also has awsome power in his long right and is a high volume type of guy. That said, Martinez will be a good test, but not the right kind of test. KP can stay at middleweight and be a big fish in a small pond, or move up tp super middleweight and test his mettle with the big guys.

Who would you have picked from Pavlik v Abraham before the Hopkins fight at 160lbs,Ted?
Pavlik by TKO in the second half for me.
At 168,i’m not so sure.
After watching AA against Direll, I’d have to agree with you.
