If ya'll really care about this fight
Robert Stieglitz beat Eduard Gutknecht by UD to retain his Hostaged WBO Super Middleweight title.
Hey… that is the same WBO belt that Calzaghe held for years… don’t make fun of it.
They already got rid of the dead guy in the rankings….
"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."
Heard the WBO had to pick up it’s title at the local pawn shop. Connects are no longer fronting Cokezaghe. Gotta get money some how

Well Stieglitz is Russian and Gutknecht is from Kazakhstan. But the belt is German and will remain so for quite a while, I imagine.

Again,If ya'll really care
Sebastian Zbik beat Domenico Spada to either retain or win the pointless WBC Interim Middleweight title, becoming Pavlik’s WBC mandatory but I don’t see Zbik going for the real version anytime soon until probably Pavlik moves up or just vacants the title.
These Euro fights are killing me in the points game!

Pavlik is waaaaay underrated
He’s going to remind people why he used to be so highly regarded. TKO 7.
People were saying the same thing about P will before he fought Martinez. Its hard to pick against him after that performance.
paul williams was just overrated though

I got him being some what overrated. He has the Taylor wins and not much else. Miranda was good too. But it’s obvious Edison ain’t an elite fighter.

I don't buy Williams being overrated.
I thought that was the fight of the year (Williams v. Martinez) and that it could’ve gone either way by a point. I’ve watched that fight three times and scored it: Draw, Martinez, Draw. Williams is no slouch. Martinez was just that damn good on that night.
Don’t care who wins between Pavlik and Martinez, so long as both come out to win and, as my dad would say, “slap leather.”

I think a case can be made that Williams is overrated, considering he is on a lot of p4p lists. He has an awful loss to Quintana (far worse than Pavlik’s loss to Hopkins) and then the ultra close fight against Martinez. Now, Martinez is an excellent fighter, but I don’t think he is among the top few in the sport.
If Williams really can make 147 I guess that bolsters his case, in a purely theoretical sense since no one good at 147 will fight him. At 154 and 160, Williams is certainly among the best of a shallow crop. For truly elite status though I think he needs to clearly establish himself as the best at those weights.
We know he’s not clearly better than Martinez. Pavlik would certainly be tough for him, at best. He’s far from a lock against Cintron, even. I’m not sure that adds up to a p4p guy.
by drivlikejehu on Apr 17, 2010 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions
Awful loss, yes...
but Williams avenged it by blazing Quintana in the rematch. Plus, isn’t that Williams’ only loss? I mean, I understand knocking a guy for getting KO’d in round 1, but when a man’s got a high work rate, impressive KOs, and is willing to fight anyone from 147 to 160, I’d say that makes him a damn good fighter.

10-9 Miranda. Bute made a good charge.
The Seahawks have traded my signature to the Detroit Lions for a 6th round draft pick.
Bute-Miranda R1

Bute walking Miranda around the ring to start, neither throwing much for the first 40 seconds. Miranda definitely has a different look about him early. We’ll see if it makes him more complete or if it’s just a stance. Bute gets the crowd going letting his hands go just a bit. Bute with a left to the chest. Miranda does look sharper and more technical-thinking than usual. Might not last, but it’s interesting early at least.
Good 1-2 by Bute, then a hook to the body. Left by Bute after a little jab by Miranda, now Miranda goes to the body and lets his hands go, but the round ends. Miranda misses the bell and chases Bute to his corner, but nothing comes of it.
Miranda 10-9, but very close

20-18 Miranda
WTF?
"Karma - there it was. The meaning of life, straight from Carson Daly's lips to my morphine-laced ears." -Earl Hickey
Bute-Miranda R2

Bute’s straight left is going to be there. He’s making that clear already. Miranda looking ready to throw down big. Big “Bu-te” chant. Miranda pawing a jab that is nowhere near landing. Bute keeping distance very well in the first half of the second round, making Miranda come up very short on everything. Heads clash a little, Miranda may have landed at the same time. Body shot by Bute. Miranda is more reserved than usual, but is missing most everything he throws. Speed is something never discussed with him, and he has very little. Seems like an afterthought more than anything. He’s a clubber.
Miranda a little more active, but not in a meaningful sense, I don’t think. But it was another close round, really. Bute didn’t do much either.
Bute 10-9
19-19

Miranda throwing with intent now, but still missing. Good right by Miranda, and now he’s getting cocky, but Bute landed too. Here we go — this might be heating up. Miranda with a right that lands, Bute backs him down, and Miranda is COCKY. DOWN GOES MIRANDA ON A SHORT SHOT INSIDE!

I’m really really really picky. Anything under Baker’s is, in my mind, slumming it anymore. Which is really fucking stupid because the shit gets expensive.

That was genuinely embarrassing for Miranda, wasn’t it? They spent all week yammering about how different he was, but he’s the same dummy with no chin and deserved to get knocked out.

I don't know about the Hopkins talk...
I don’t think there’s any upside in fighting Hopkins before the Super 6 Winner for Bute. Bute-Ward would be a huge fight, and Hopkins would be there for either one afterward. If Hopkins would beat Bute, he doesn’t really have a fight, IMO.
"Karma - there it was. The meaning of life, straight from Carson Daly's lips to my morphine-laced ears." -Earl Hickey
This just more evidence of the obvious, I guess. Whoever wins the super-six isn’t the best 168’er in the world until he fights and beats Bute. He is the full package. I’m not sure if any of those guys could do it. Maybe Ward.

And is slick enough to beat Bute.

I think both Andres have the speed to neutralize him a little more. Either are a great fight, IMO. And you know, we all seem to count out Froch (me included), but the guy does just keep winning. I like Froch.

im meant to be going to Kessler Froch fight next weekend
if these flight shenanigans carry over till next week I will be very upset. I have made a lot of effort to organize this trip
Ward or Dirrell
Will outbox Bute. The man was on queer street fighting the lead footed Andrade. He’s not going to catch Ward or Dirrell ….and he is not the guy you want to see go deep and late.
Yeah, but he also knocked out the lead-headed Andrade. That was a brutal shot.
"My God, kids today think that the laces are for tying up the gloves."

By hitting him in the liver.
Andrade does not, to my knowledge, have an iron liver.
"Karma - there it was. The meaning of life, straight from Carson Daly's lips to my morphine-laced ears." -Earl Hickey
I do think
He’s being made to look better than he is, given the opposition. But he IS a heck of a fighter.
by The Boxer Rebellion on Apr 17, 2010 10:45 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Taking out second-level competition in impressive fashion (with the exception of the last round of the first Andrade fight) is the best one can really do with it. But it also doesn’t inherently prove much.
