I think the fight will likely end as SC predicted in his preview – Froch TKO 11.
However,if Kessler can outbox him and last the full 12,any close rounds would likely go to the Dane in his home country and he might nick it.
I think Kessler is past his best and noticed, like Brickhaus mentioned before, that he looked pretty unimpressive even when beating Perdomo before the Ward fight.
I was gonna go Kessler SD but i think Froch will wear him down late on and stop him.
Froch TKO 11.
Froch didn’t look too impressive to me in his last two outings. He looked tenacious and tough, and there’s something to be said for that. But let’s be honest about the Dirrell situation… Dirrell was robbed. It wasn’t a horrendous, scandalous Ottke-Reid style robbery, but Froch still lost the fight, and didn’t really look like anything he was trying was working against Andre. Not even the constant rabbit-punching was wearing him down. Froch, like Margarito, swallows too many punches and eventually he is going to choke on one. I doubt it will be from Kessler, who seems to be bored with boxing and on the slide. But I still think Kessler will hang in there for the full twelve and walk out with the belt. I’m almost 100% certain Froch will get outlanded in more than 8 of twelve rounds. Carl needs a knockout and Kessler just needs to not get knocked out. Kessler UD.

Yeah,
Froch hasn’t looked good at all in his last 2 fights, save for the late Taylor KO.He was outclassed for most of that fight though.
It was obvious to me that Dirrell was the better man also but i think Dirrell has to blame himself partly for that fight,as,even though he deserved the decision some could say that it was more a case of him losing the fight than Froch winning it.
He didn’t do enough to win convincingly, imo, considering he was on the beltholder’s turf.
I think he would certainly turn the tables in a rematch, especially in America.

This is a hard fight to pick, imo and some questions should be answered about both guys tonight.
I think it will be a war between 2 well matched fighters meself.Maybe the best Super 6 fight yet.

I’m wondering if you could use the Kessler v Andrade fight as a good measuring stick for the matchup tonight.I think Froch is a better fighter than Andrade but they have similar pressure fighter styles and both are/were thought to have good chins.
Bute kind of dispelled the idea that Andrade had an impervious chin though and Froch has shown a bit of susceptibility.
Kessler totally shut Librado out in Denmark and his boxing ability might have him far comfortably ahead on the scorecards,as Jrok said, but then Froch could well be desperate late on.
I have a feeling Kessler was a fighter nearer his peak when he fought Andrade than he is now also but as i mentioned earlier,i’m finding this one really hard to call.
I'm not sure if anyone has heard this
But Froch has threaten to retire from boxing if he gets robbed in Denmark in a few hours.
Yeah,
i read that today.I don’t believe what he says though but if he does mean it could it be an uncommon sign of mental weakness from Froch??
Meaning should he even be thinking about losing?

Meaning should he even be thinking about losing?
Yes, great point. He shouldn’t even be saying the word “lose.” And the only robbery he should be talking about is robbing Mikkel of his consciousness.

Jrok & Matt,
My thoughts exactly, Froch never usually has a negative word before a fight, what’s that all about?

What time and channel is the fight on, and is it ppv? Thanks to anyone that can help.
by Phill on Apr 24, 2010 4:01 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
IT's on Sky channel 480 mate
But whereas one of my mates has got it for free, another told me that they’re charging 15 quid for it.
Hope you fall on the former side of that divide…. :)

I can't effin wait.
I’m like a kid in a sweet shop with this one. I’m also still undecided as to who will win. I know I keep saying this, but MK is a real decent dude, with a point to prove. Frochy has had three hard fights on the trot, but looks an shit hot shape. I think he may be a harder bloke than Mikkel in a “Stevie Collins” type of way. Can’t wait!!!!
by Phill on Apr 24, 2010 12:47 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Good Picture Of You With RJ,Phil.
How much did he charge you for that? :)
I’m not gonna buy this one as i still think Primetime are a slack set up and i don’t trust them to be professional enough. When i paid for the Abraham v Taylor/Froch v Dirrell double bill,my channel wouldn’t come on until about rd 11 or 12 of the Abraham fight.
I got a signal through just in time for the KO!
To be fair they probably have it organised now but when i saw there was no meaningful undercard i thought f**k it,i’ll wait for the dvd.I’m gonna be a cheapskate and stream it!
Don’t usually do that when i have access and if it was on Sky i would probably pay but like i said,i don’t trust these ‘Primetime’ clowns.
Matt. Cheers!
I was going to do a Dennis Pennis and ask RJ if he’d take a piccy of me and “Mrs Grief” with Richie Woodhall…..
I’ve booked the fight, but I won’t hold my breath.. Not sure bout the commentary team mate.

Another great thing about the Super 6 is that it is proving that you don’t have to have an undefeated record to be a good fighter. Some of the favourites have lost and some of the undergdogs have won and, although fight fans are rating who’s best and who could be on the way down, they still respect all the participants and look forward to these big fights.
It’s a great idea,imo,if a little drawn out.

Could be if all the divisions were actually organised into tounaments. I’m not sure how it would work but just think of all the amazing fights that we could see, that won’t happen due to the politics and record protection.

A thought Has Just Occured To Me
whilst drinking JD (and reading other boxing websites)……If Kessler is motivated,i think he can not only outbox box but also out brawl Froch.
Kessler has never even been dropped or really hurt, never mind stopped and Calzaghe backed off when he realised Kessler was a tough guy in the exchanges.
Joe had something to fall back on.What has Froch got?..He’s like the stereotype of one-dimensional.
Really looking forward to this one.

I've backed:
Kessler win inside the distance @ 3/1
Fight NOT to go the distance @ even money.
Calzaghe wanted no part of Mikkel on the inside, and he punches so much straighter than Froch…. here’s hoping… :)

Yeah, but against Calzaghe and a lot of guys who aren’t as good or tough as Froch. Calzaghe had no reason to mix it up inside with Kessler. Froch has every reason to. Namely, he can’t do the rest of the stuff Calzaghe did.

Ward was almost Holy-esque with Kessler. It was nice to see that sort of physicality out of him, I was afraid Ward was too pretty for the pros. Kessler is so straight up and down that he was ripe to get gored. On the other hand, it makes it harder for Carl to employ his “rough stuff” of choice: the Rabbit Punch.

I’m genuinely amazed that the bookies have Kessler favourite, given that Froch is the champion, Kessler lost his last fight (although most f us know Froch did too…), Froch remains unbeaten, etc etc…

Froch-Kessler R1

Commentators say Froch is expecting Kessler to start fast. Great atmosphere from the crowd in Herning. Froch winging his wide hooks from his low left hand, but without much intent. Froch misses a right. Kessler staying steady, Froch trying to stay out of the pocket. Right by Kessler. Froch comes forward, clips Kessler with a right hand and then a jab lands. Kessler shoots an overhand right, Froch gets out. Froch starting to dictate pace outside, but there’s Kessler coming in again. A bit over a minute left in an even round to this point.
Froch throwing wild shots, but landing nothing. Kessler not throwing much at all at this point, seeming perhaps a little trigger shy. Froch warned for a rabbit punch. Froch and Kessler both throwing, still little between them. Round ends, tough one to score. I give it to Froch by a nose. (Ha!)
Froch 10-9

Froch-Kessler R2

Kessler coming out a bit more busy this round, throwing jabs to the body and working his way in. Right by Kessler. The Primetime guys won’t shut up about “away from home.” Kessler starting to get into a nice little rhythm. Froch is fighting off his back foot and not very well at that. Kessler sort of walking him around the ring without much trouble. Froch coming in a bit more in the final minute. Froch’s jab is really just for show thus far. Kessler moving a lot easier than he did against Ward. Froch with some decent work here to deter Kessler, but Kessler is still coming. There’s a quick mix-up. Kessler round.

Froch 10-9
19-19. Kessler is like the anti-Abraham. He did well for the first two minutes, then seemed to stop throwing punches for most of the last minute. Froch also had that nice little stretch where he landed the uppercut in the middle.

Froch-Kessler R3

Kessler’s stalking is fairly effective, but I keep waiting for Froch to time him and start pressing. Carl seems to have a lot more respect for Kessler than he’s had for most. Right from Froch. Kessler still walking him down. I don’t know what “hurtful punches” they think Froch is landing that Kessler isn’t. Froch starting to get a little cocky, and he’s coming in. “Much more better,” they remark.
Froch now leading the action as Kessler starts eating some jabs he really shouldn’t be eating, probably. Good finish to the round for Froch, and he takes it.

Great round for Kessler, widest of the fight so far. He’s consistently making Froch miss and countering. The one decent shot Froch landed also hit Kessler’s glove. Or maybe I’m just watching a completely different fight from everyone else.

Froch-Kessler R4

“Kessler always starts most of these rounds…” Always most, huh? 60% of the time, it works…every time.
Froch with a good right hand about halfway into the round. Kessler takes it well, but Froch is just starting to find him a bit more. He’s landing harder shots, and Froch is finding a rhythm. Left from Kessler lands well, but Froch fires back. They’ve felt each other out and now it’s getting heavy. They’re both loading up nice shots and landing. Now both shooting jabs, hoping to find an opening after. Neither man can find much.
Froch wings away, misses, and nearly gets nailed with a right. Kessler with a hard finish to the round, but Froch is there to meet him. Kessler sneaks it.

But another really close round. Froch is doing a much better job of keeping Kessler’s jab out of range now, and he landed one decent shot that snapped Kessler’s head back. Kessler nearly stole it at the end though.

Froch-Kessler R5

Froch coming out very busy, and bangs Kessler into the corner, where Mikkel ties up. Kessler with a hard jab. “We’ve only seen Kessler dominated by Calzaghe. No one dominates him but that.” ARE YOU FUCKING STONED?
Kessler pressing now, going body to head. Froch firing, and DOWN GOES KESSLER — but it’s ruled a slip, which it did appear to be on initial glance. But Froch seems to smell blood now, and he’s throwing big. Kessler with a right! This is getting big.
Froch is so sloppy. But there’s a BIG loaded up right from Froch! Now he’s getting Mikkel rattled up a bit. Kessler misses a right. Froch is getting very confident.

Froch-Kessler R6

Nasty right from Kessler kicks off the round six action. Froch doesn’t seem bothered though. Now Froch coming back as Kessler opens up, but they tie up and reset. There’s been really no clinching in this fight at all.
Now they’re throwing again. Froch’s hands are both at his hips now, which isn’t unusual but he seems a bit more tired than he usually does by this stage, too. Kessler catching him, and Froch is getting really sloppy. Now Froch comes in, but there’s nothing much on those shots. He’s not just sloppy now, he’s slappy.
Kessler is pressuring and really getting on him. Kessler seems better conditioned and so far this is a big round. 30 seconds left. Froch letting his hands go now, but Kessler isn’t giving him the same openings now. Good round for Mikkel.

Froch-Kessler R7

Froch looking a bit more spritely this round. He might have been taking half a breather last round, which might be dumb, but possibly better the sixth than the 10th. Kessler still walking him down, and there he lands a little in combination, and Froch swings back but misses.
Kessler is fighting one of his better fights ever, really. He’s stayed controlled, not gotten rattled (even though it seemed he was at one point), and stayed in his comfort zone for the most part. He’s not taking much damage and he’s doing what he knows how to do. Kessler with a triple jab. Froch seems a bit like he’s looking for the home run already. Kessler is content to work his way, which has Froch, if either of them are frustrated, the one who’s frustrated.
Kessler with big shots, and there’s a rabbit punch and the referee says nothing. Another Kessler round.

Froch-Kessler R8

Kessler is just looking more and more in control. Froch is having real trouble getting anything going at this point, and Kessler is feeding off the crowd. Kessler is still just stalking him down, unloading, and Carl Froch is looking like he’s just not there mentally.
BIG right from Kessler! Froch got drilled with that one. They think that’s enough to “tip the balance” for Kessler. He was already winning this round. Froch stuck in the corner and he’s in trouble. Kessler is showing some big finish eyes now — he lands another right. There’s a big, sloppy right from Froch, but Kessler barely notices it. Huge Kessler round. He’s in firm control.

Froch-Kessler R9

Carl Froch needs something big, and he needs it fast. He’s tired, he’s cut on the bridge of the nose, and Kessler is all over him. That continues here, too. Kessler is looking for that shot. He’s avoiding Froch’s wild swings with relative ease, and now he smacks him to the body with a left hook. Froch just can’t do anything with Kessler right now.
Froch lands a couple, but there is absolutely nothing on his punches now. Kessler is so relaxed now. He knows he’s winning this fight, and he intends to keep winning. His body language is 500% different here than it was in the Ward fight, even by about round three.
Froch charging, but Kessler able to avoid it. “Good work,” they say, but it’s really just the desperate actions of a desperate man. Here they go with “really have to beat the champion.” Froch sure is being positive! Shut up.

That cut is not good, and Froch is going into the reserves. Froch wants to target the blood, Kessler wants to protect it. The dynamic has shifted a little bit. Froch with a wild left that lands clean, and that one backed Kessler down a little bit. He’s controlling this round. The jab is there, his arms are at least up to his waist now part of the time, and he’s really going for the left eye. The cut is a big factor.
Froch landing, Kessler missing. Carl back to having some confidence. Here comes a flurry from Kessler, but nothing lands. Froch has the zeroed-in eyes, Kessler looks a bit concerned. Good Froch round.

There were a lot of really close rounds I thought
Score all seven close rounds for Froch, and it’s a wide Froch win. But without the benefit of a home crowd, it’s unlikely that would happen.

Nah. There most certainly were NOT many close rounds.

I mean, 8-4 to Froch would have been a robbery of the highest order. An absolute mugging.

Yep.
I honestly think that the 115-113 card for Kessler is almost a robbery….

Carl just doesn’t have much to complain about. Both the Primetime guys on the UK broadcast scored it for Kessler, too. It was a good effort and he simply lost the fight.

I don’t wanna be a bitch, but its just typical that the Sauerland guy is the one who scores it widest for Kessler. Personally, I could have seen it 116-112 either way, but it doesn’t detract at all, absolutely amazing fight.

It was a hell of a good fight, and a rematch would certainly be in order once the tournament is over, or if they meet later in the tournament it would be electric.

That last round was ROTY contender.
BTW the Brit announcer I’m fairly certain is John Rawling. Terrible. He also has recently done soccer and he’s even worse at that….two weeks ago he spent many a times correcting himself because he mistook a player, corner/goal kick, etc.
Utterly crap commentary tonight.

That was awesome
The last round was incredible… and the whole fight was intense. I didn’t really score it carefully, but thought Kessler had a clear edge going into the last 3 rounds, but Froch might have nicked all 3. 117-111 seems crazy, and 116-112 also seems a little wide, although there were a lot of close rounds. GREAT fight!

Just had a row on the phone with my mate;
He just tried to persuade me that Froch got jobbed, and that if the fight had been in Britain Froch would have easily got the nod.
He also said he gave the first, eighth, ninth, tenth AND eleventh to Froch…..
I told him he’s getting closer to his dream job: Village Idiot…..
Honestly. How anyone can say Froch won 4 of the last 5 is beyond belief. lol

He might be right that in the UK he’d get the nod (I hope not, but maybe). The question is, would he get the nod on neutral ground? I think the answer is clearly no.
Kinda infuriating, because I don’t even think these cards were home-cooking. Close rounds, yes. Close fight? I erred closer to 116-112 here, personally, but 117-111 wasn’t out of question.
I’m with you. I think 115-113 is definitely closer than what I saw the fight being.
"Yes Gina, I am a Wise Cracker"
As I said above, I scored it 10-2 Kessler.
And the 3rd was a round I could have also given to Kessler.
The only clear Froch round on my card was the 5th.

I think it was.
Genuinely.
I thought Kessler proved tonight he’s a completely different level of fighter to Froch.
Can you tell me a round apart from the 5th that was a clear Froch round?
I gave Froch the 3rd when most had that as a Kessler round. I didn’t think he won any other round, and the second half of the fight was a shutout for Kessler: Froch was never in the fight in those rounds. Kessler hurt him lots, Froch never hurt Kessler.
Just my (dogmatic as always!!) opinion. lol

Can you tell me a round apart from the 5th that was a clear Froch round?
Can you tell me for certain that every one of the 10 rounds you had for Kessler was a CLEAR Kessler round? Because the 10th and 11th at the very least are debatable, as were the 1st and 3rd rounds. I am not arguing that there’s any way to say Froch won the fight. I don’t believe there was. But 10-2 is really extreme, IMO.

Absolutely.
He refused to believe that the cards were legit, and claimed home cooking. I told him that there was no way in hell Froch won the fight: Kessler gave him a lesson.
He told me he’d like to see how the cards would come out in Britain, I told him he was following “The World According to Rob McCracken” far too closely. He said again he thought Froch would have gotten the nod in Britain, I responded “You mean he could have won the fight if the judges were British-biased”.
He hung up. lol.

Great fight
I’d say about 116-112 in Kessler’s favour is right. Froch was good – Kessler was great. It was everything I like – great action and mutual respect between two fighters. Froch was OK after the fight except for moan about the score – Kessler won give the guy his dues. I hate this – we’ve seen it from Hopkins, Dirrell, Abraham – the list goes on and on – whining about getting beat ad excuse making STFU it’s no goodf complaining after the fact.
