"Be smart, be sharp and fight hard. May the best man win. I am pretty sure that Shane feels deep in his heart and deep in his soul he is going to win." -- Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"I don't think his comments have any bearing on me. I'm a competitor so I want to go out there and do what I do. ... I'm gonna win this fight by being Shane Mosley." -- Shane Mosley

"I am not your enemy. I am your friend. It's all good man. ... When it's all done, you can invite me over to dinner." -- Roger Mayweather to Mosley

"As I have said before, you have good fighters, you have champions, you have elite fighters and you have guys that are special. In this fight you have a rare occasion where you see two special guys going against each other." -- Naazim Richardson

"I say that we're going to break records. Not to only break three million homes, my goal is to break four million homes." -- Richard Schaefer

Those are some weird quotes.

That’s what I was thinking.

Mike Goldberg: "You know Joe, When Matt and his brother Mark Hughes were growing up, they would pound each other behind the barn."

From what I can tell the final presser was sort of strange overall. Like they couldn’t decide if they were going for super respectful or hyping it up. Mosley mostly talked about what a great fight it would be. Mayweather went between “I’m prepared,” “I love my family” and “I sell lots of pay-per-views.” Schaefer gloated and went insane. Roger said he likes Shane and his family. Naazim quietly characterized the Mayweathers as buffoons. Floyd Sr. was on his own planet as usual.

3mill? Maybe even 4? I just don’t see it.

Not really

This fight will probably do real close to 3million. About 2.7 million or so… Easy

totally

It’s definitely the biggest fight ever. There’s absolutely no question about it being the biggest fight ever. This has definitely generated the sort of coverage and interest that Oscar-Floyd and Lewis-Tyson did. You can’t dispute that.

stop hating

Biggest fight? This is clearly the biggest EVENT in the whole history of human civilization. The moon landing will have nothing on WHO R U PICKING when it’s all over.

It will do well

But probably about half your estimates. 1.3 – 1.5 million seems reasonable to me. But I’m more optimistic than some.

Schaefer is off his rocker with his goofy 4 million prediction.

Schaefer’s in the bad predictions business. A smart man would get his prediction on this fight and bet his house on the opposite.

well, I’m buying my first PPV ever. Maybe there is something to it.

Not to say I think 3 or 4 million is happening (it’s not), but he did say a million for Floyd-JMM and was right when everyone thought that was bananas. But I wonder if he’ll hide the numbers in embarrassment when this DOESN’T reach his outlandish prediction, like Arum tried to do when Hatton-Pacquiao didn’t single-handedly allow Bob to buy Dubai.

Minus the latino buys, I have a little trouble seeing this break $1.5 million, much less 2 mill.

1.5 mil is my guess on the buys. They could go over, they could be under. And it’ll be a phenomenal success, but now will be made fun of because it doesn’t do almost two times what the biggest PPV ever did. This isn’t a Babe Ruth situation where he just blows home run marks out of the water. Peoples’ wallets haven’t changed that much in three years. If anything they’ve gotten lighter and tighter.

This is the "Hurt Game"

Shane is going to get his ass beat. he should have took a tune up fight, he’s been off to long. you will see that his timing will be off and he will get desperate and frustrated by the 6 round. And then we will see the long "close my eyes hooks.’

If you always thought what you thought, then you wouldn't think what you knew.

Wow, you must really hate Floyd to be going out of your way to downgrade the quality of the win in advance like that.

by taco pal on Apr 29, 2010 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Mosley has a better chance of outboxing Floyd by an embarassingly wide margin for 7 rounds and then knocking him out dead in the 8th than the chances of this fight going over 4 million.
