Is this the biggest break between a first fight and a rematch in boxing history ? The only one I can think of is when Jeff Fenech and Azumah had that farce down here a couple of years ago .

It’s a legitimate grudge match. They genuinely don’t like each other. But even still, the fight itself has almost no meaning. Hopkins gains nothing but personal satisfaction by winning, and will never hear the end of it if he loses. Actually I think the only one with anything to gain is Roy. If he wins, it’s as big an upset as Hopkins over Pavlik or Hopkins over Tarver, probably even bigger because nobody thinks he’s any good at all, while BHop is still highly regarded.

I’m pretty genuinely interested in seeing how many folks here actually watch this fight, and I’d also like to find out how many buys this generates, because I don’t expect more than 250K, and that’s my absolute top-end guess. It could be half that.

it could surprise us all. I’m one of those that refused to buy it, up until an hour ago, and now i did, even found some people interested enough to come over and suffer with me.
Last time they were on major, HBO-promoted PPVs, they both flopped. Hopkins-Pavlik did 180K, and Jones-Calzaghe (with a 24/7) did 220K. Maybe there’s something about the matchup itself that sells big, but I have my doubts.

all things considered, roy has a pretty decent ear for rap talent. In that song Can’t Be Touched he shows his level of rap talent, he deserves to be a rapper in the supporting cast of a group of more talented guys.

Look if/when Roy loses this one, he needs to look for new work. I say that with love. He has looked more shot up then John Dillinger and Sonny Corleone the last couple of fights. The body can’t do what the brain wants anymore, and the brain can’t do what the body wants anymore.

It is not an HBO PPV. It’s a Golden Boy/Square Ring PPV. HBO is “distributing,” like they did for Casamayor-Marquez. Their commentators aren’t here, their cameras aren’t here, this fight was never promoted on HBO. This is not an HBO event.

Getting this fight doesn’t bug me. I’m already geared for shit. I truly hate the Mora-Green fight, knew Sillakh would plow through Judah, and am tentatively interested in Juarez-Litzau, but also feel that could be 10 rounds of two guys looking at each other. And the main event I have some bizarre and legitimate interest in.

Green is here to fight. He’s pressing the action. Mora using a jab, then throws a really wild right hand that falls short. Good left hook by Green that stings Mora. Mora is cut. Green banging to the body, Mora laying on the ropes. Mora looks rusty as all hell. And Green is here to make a name. Sergio with some nice work late in the round, two good shots, and then Green pressures him again. This isn’t a bad little fight at all. Color me surprised. Both banging away to end the round. Close round, but I go with the ’dog.
