The fuck is going on with this picture? Does Pavlik have The Glow?

The fight will be held on Babylon 5
or Deep Space Nine….or Battlestar Gallactica. I hope the satellites can pick up the signal. It IS a cool poster, though.
CAPCOM anyone...?
Martinez will be in trouble if Pavlik nails him with a “Dragon Punch!” or “Tiger Uppercut!”

When this fight was first discussed, I thought Sergio could UD him somewhat comfortably. The more times I’ve played it out in my head, however, I start to see Pavlik’s size just being too much. Sergio likes to fight from the outside and he’ll try to do just that, but he’ll just find himself, eventually, at the end of too many strong shots from a thudding puncher. I bet he’ll look good early though before damage begins to accumulate.
I'm about as confident as I've ever been
for the outcome of a fight with odds this close. I’m confident Pavlik is going to win. I just don’t know if it will be by decision or late TKO.

I’m guessing 4-6 in Pavlik’s favor.

When I first saw this, I thought Sergio outboxes Pavlik, but then after thinking about it (and re-watching Pavlik-Hopkins) I just don’t think Sergio is good enough to stop Pavlik throwing. Moreover, just like Pavlik wasn’t able to physically throw his weight around at 170, I can’t see Sergio being able to physically compete. Still, he’s very resourceful and I wouldn’t be too shocked if this one goes to the cards.

We don't really know
The best one he’s faced is faded Bronco McKart. That’s the big x-factor in my mind.

He also got knocked down in that fight…
I also remember that McKart hit him alot… I think it was on Versus of things…
"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."
To be fair, he did kayo McKart, who had never been down in his career before.

McKart isn’t anywhere near world class…
"Boxing is dirty," said Casamayor. " The day I’m not ready to be a dirty fighter is the day I don’t fight anymore because it will mean that I have no heart for it anymore."
And you’re wrong anyway. McKart isn’t “world class,” but he was “near world class” at a certain point in his career.

I thought it was clearly implied that he wasn’t anywhere near world class when he fought Pavlik. I mean they fought on the OLN and not even Versus…
He was a champ but that was many moons ago.

Okay, but you also said that Pavlik “got knocked down in that fight,” as though it proves something. If you go and look at the fight, it was a pretty controversial KD, and really could’ve been ruled a slip. The truth is, Pavlik hurt McKart in ways I’ve never seen him hurt before. It was Pavlik’s first quality win.

Pavlik got hit alot… he doesn’t have the best defense.
It says alot that someone like McKart put alot of leather on him.

JT, zertuche, and miranda all put a lot of leather on him and look what happened to them. pavlik basically ruined taylor’s and miranda’s career, and i’ve never heard from that zertuche guy again. pavlik is as basic as they come, but the power is what separates him from the chumps

Yeah, Taylor and Miranda basically were chased out of the division by Pavlik, leaving him standing alone. Hell Espino laid some leather on him too. It doesn’t appear that’s much of a problem.

This “someone like McKart” business is strange to me. McKart was no stiff. He gave some very tough rounds to some very good fighters. His legs sucked, but he was a good fighter in many ways, and it’s normal to take more punches than you normally would the first time you fight a left-hander with a solid chin, especially when you are still green yourself.

McKart’s one of my favorite gatekeepers. Nine losses, eight of them to good fighters. Three to Winky, then Verno Phillips, Travis Simms, Pavlik, Enrique Ornelas and Roman Karmazin. And he just won another crappy little belt in February at his hometown community college. Keep on truckin’, Bronco.

The guy is a legitimately tough dude. I’ve seen him take very hard punches without blinking. He’s old school too. I think he has a full time job to support his “boxing addiction.”
Like I said, I considered that Pavlik’s first legit win. Worth two Zunigas. It makes no sense to say “someone like McKart” in a negative way. And he was the first guy to kayo him. Hell, he may wind up being the only guy to kayo him. Tough son of a bitch.

I just realized Bronco has got The Glow in that picture up there, too.

this poster is exactly why i’m going with Pavlik via TKO. martinez is going to leave himself wide open to the southpaw killer (aka straight right), and get KO’d

Martinez kinda' reminds me of a southpaw Buddy McGirt
Fast, fluid, accurate punches, nice footwork, evasive, impressive ring generalship and a guy willing to sit in the pocket and bang – tough customer.
This fight reminds me of McGirt v Simon Brown where the general pre-fight consensus was that Brown would be too big, too strong, too powerful. Buddy boxed his ears off, even dropped him late in the fight, won a wide decision. I see the southpaw Martinez troubling Pavlik with lead right hooks over the jab and lead left hands down the pipe. Pavlik will be dangerous throughout of course but I see him getting out-thought and out- fought. Martinez pts.
