Bad Left Hook Live Boxing Results and Commentary: Marco Huck vs. Brian Minto

Marco Huck will meet Brian Minto in Germany. via www.boxen.com

Today at 4:30 Eastern on ARD, Marco "Kapt'n" Huck will face Brian Minto in a cruiserweight title fight.  Huck weighed in at 199, while Minto made the lowest weight of his career by far, dropping from heavyweight to scale in at 198.4 pounds. The undercard is somewhat up in the air, but I'd expect to see either Karo Murat facing Tommy Karpency or Kubrat Pulev facing Evegny Orlov.

This is the second fight in a row where Huck is facing a former heavyweight brawler who has moved down to cruiserweight.  Last fight, Huck knocked out Adam Richards in three, while Minto was knocked out by Cristobal Arreola in four.

Round 12 starting

Murat looks like he has a lot more left in the tank than Karpency.

He's fought almost exclusively in West Virginia

So I guess it’s not too reasonable to expect much.

Murat went for the KO in the last 10 seconds

But Karpency stayed on his feet, which is probably a moral victory. Karpency was able to tag him with some weak shots, but not enough power or gas to go for the KO really.

We'll see

Minto’s at his lowest weight since college, at least. I suspect he’ll feel the effects of that and either his beard will be weaker or he won’t have as much stamina, or both.

I'm not sure that would make it undisputed

New lineal, possibly. Depends on what happens with Fragomeni-Wlodarczyk II.

On neutral ground, he could theoretically outwork Huck

In Germany, probably not. But I think Huck is just much more accurate than Minto, and he tends to pick things up in the later rounds.

Huck-Minto Rd 1

Even under 200, Minto looks a little soft, though definitely more natural at this weight.

Minto accumes a low crouching position, while Huck is fairly upright. Minto with a couple jabs to the body. Minto’s actually moving a lot better than Huck. Huck with an overhand right that connects. Minto with a couple snappy jabs that don’t hquite get there. Minto gets Huck against the ropes and unloads a few shots, none of which connect too clean.

Huck with another overhand right that connects. He puts out his left arm to set up the punch, then unloads over the top. Minto with a few more jabs to the body, and follows up with a right hand that grazes Huck. Huck with another overhand right, but Minto ducks under that. Minto is much more aggressive than Huck in the early going and actually looks quite good at cruiser so far. Huck with a couple of jabs and a big right hand, and Minto falls to the ground. Minto looks a little hurt, but the ref calls it a slip. And the round ends.

10-9 Huck, but I wouldn’t complain if you gave the round to Minto. Minto won most of it, but if you think Huck hurt Minto at the end, then you have to give him the round.

Huck-Minto Rd 2

Huck is starting to use his clear reach advantage to keep Minto at bay. Minto rushes in but misses with a couple shots. Jab to the body by Minto. Minto with a jab, but Huck counters with a harder jab. Huck rushes in on Minto and backs him into a corner, landing a couple shots in the process. Minto just doesn’t move his head enough to avoid those.

Minto with a big right hook that misses. Minto with a couple of nice body shots while Huck is against the ropes. Minto counters a Huck jab with a left hook that lands clean. Huck misses with an uppercut and Minto ties him up. Minto with another left hook that lands. Huck tries to bumruish with about 10 shots again, but Minto throws his arms out there and manages to prevent anything from connecting.

10-9 Minto, but again, I wouldn’t complain if you had it the other way. I think Minto dominated the second half of the round though.

Huck-Minto Rd 3

Huck rushes in and lands a nice left hook. The crowd is really quiet. Minto backs Huck into the ropes and unloads a series of hard hooks to the body. Huck rushes in and lands a straight right. Minto comes back with about five shots of his own. Huck with a nice jab that snaps Minto’s head back,

Minto with a few more good body shots. Huck slips to the side and counters with an uppercut. Huck nails Minto with an uppercut while Minto wildly throws a hook that misses. Minto stalking, Huck backing up and jabbing. Minto with a few more body shots against the ropes. Minto really isn’t landing anything upstairs, but he’s doing good body work. Huck counters with what looked like a rabbit punch, and Minto is down.

Minto’s back up and fighting and doesn’t really look hurt. Another rabbit punch by Huck, but the ref doesn’t call it. Minto rushes in with a series of hooks that miss, and Huck pushes him down to the ground.

Minto was doing well most of the round, but on replay, the knockdown pucnh was clearly a rabbit punch.

10-8 Huck, just because I can’t really score it any other way.

Huck-Minto Rd 4

Well, Minto has survived longer than Swamp Donkey. Huck with a couple of hooks, tries another rabbit punch that misses, and Minto sort of tackles Huck. Minto comes back with a series of body shots against the ropes. Now Huck is going crazy and lands about eight solid punches in a row. Minto comes back with a few of his own and then ties up. Minto is starting to huff a little and his legs don’t completely look under him.

Huck against the ropes again, and Minto with a series of body shots. Huck turns minto around and the two are going at it! Huck with an uppercut, Minto fires back with three hooks, and the two are just trading hooks!

MIt gets broken up and Minto backs Huck into the ropes again and is unloading to the body and sneaking a few to the head behind Huck’s gloves. Minto is seriously just trying to outstrength Huck now, pushing him back and throwing lots of punches to the body.

Huck 10-9, though Minto came on again late in the round.

Huck-Minto Rd 5

Minto with a series of jabs to Huck’s body. Minto backs Huck into the ropes but lands nothing of consequence. Huck hasn’t thrown a punch yet this round. There Huck does with a right cross. Huck with a couple more right crosses, and down goes Minto again!

Minto gets back up, but there’s still a lot of time left in the round. Huck is going for the KO, throwing wild hooks, but Minto is able to get our of teh way. Minto firing back but on unsteady legs. Minto backs Huck into the ropes again and is firing away, but his shots don’t have too much mustard left on them. Minto slowing down a bit, following Huck and throwing a few jabs, and then the two get into a grapple. Huck with another attempted rabbit punch and Byrd finally warns him. Minto with a right hook that seems to stun Huck! Minto with Huck stuck in the corner and he’s teeing off, but the bell rings and that’s that.

Huck 10-8

49-44 Huck.

Huck-Minto Rd 6

Both corners are slow getting out of the ring. Huck with a couple of body shots that look like they were blocked. Minto with a right hook to the body, but Huck isn’t letting himself get caught on the ropes anymore and is actually moving his feet. The two exchange and Minto clearly gets the better of it. Huck is backpedaling , then holds Minto’s head and hits him with an uppercut. Once again, Byrd doesn’t wartn hm. If Huck ever fights in the US, he’d get DQed if he tried this much dirty tactics.

Minto gets Huck in the corner, but Minto is throwing arm punches now. Minto looks completely gassed, but he’s still pressing the action. Huck isn’t doing much if anything in return. Huck with a couple more attempted rabbit punches but he misses. Minto stalking Huck, but not landing much, but Huck isn’t really throwing back. Hucm throws and Minto lands a nice counter straight right.

Nice comeback round for Minto, but with that stamina, it seems like the writing is on the wall.

Huck-Minto Rd 7

Minto with a couple of slow jabs and he pushes Huck back into the ropes. The two in the middle of the ring, both taking some time off. Minto with a series of jabs that pushes Huck back. Huck once again not doing much. Minto with a couple of hooks to Huck’s body. Minto with a few hooks that are blocked. Minto just bullying around Huck now. Not really landing anything, but Huck is doing NOTHING but cover up for half a round. Same trainer as Arthur Abraham FWIW.

Huck finally throws a punch and the crowd picks up. Minto comes back with a few hooks to the body. Huck with a jab, but Minto counters with a jab of his own. 30 seconds left, and I can count the number of punches Huck has thrown on my fingers. Huck finally gets aggressive and the two brawl a bit, but Minto actually seems to get the better of it. Huck backed into the corner, and Minto nails him with about 5 consecutive hooks and uppercuts. A little scuffling after the bell. Another good round for Minto.

Minto-Huck Rd 8

Minto throwing some jabs in the middle of the ring. Huck now moving forward and throwing some jabs. Huck does nothing to keep Minto from coming inside and throwing a few hooks to the body. Huck against the ropes, and Minto lays into him with a few more hooks to the body. Huck comes forward and throws some big punches, but none of them come particularly close to landing.

Minto backs Huck into a corner again and throws a couple of jabs. Huck with another rabbit punch and Minto finally complains about it. I’ve counted about 15 actual or attempted rabbit punches by Huck so far this fight. And then Minto gets a stern warning for his first low blow, which was an Arthur Abraham low blow if you know what I mean – right on the belly button.

Minto pushes Huck back some more. Huck tries a couple shots up top, but Minto ducks under land lands a couple to the body. Huck pinned again, and Minto starts throwing hooks on his arms and shoulders.

Minto-Huck Rd 9

Huck has been doing next to nothing the last few rounds, but knowing German scoring, they were probably scored for Huck.

Minto coming forward again, and Huck looks a hair more active now. Huck with a lead left hook that lands and pushes Minto back. Minto pushes Huck into the ropes again and unloads about 6 hooks to the body. Huck throws a few big telegraphed punches, all of which Minto slips, other than a rabbit punch that connects.

Huck with a stiff jab. Minto tries to pin Huck again, but he floats out of the way. Minto comes in and a BIG RIGHT HAND out of nowhere and THAT was a legitimate knockdown.

Minto doesn’t look hurt, but that knocked Minto on his ass and kills any chance he had of winning. The two are now brawling in the middle of the ring, with Huck going in for the kill but just not hitting Minto with much of anything. Mito comes forward with a series of weak bacs and hooks and he looks toast. Hu8ck with some more holding and hitting. Big left hook by Huck that appears to break Minto’s nose and almost knocks him down again.
