Just seen Ricky Burns fighting, looked pretty average against Youssef Al Hamidi. Very excited for when Degale arrives, and buzzing for the main event!

I’d expect DeGale. The Gavin and Saunders fights have happened and been taped and they’ll fit those in when they have downtime (expected after DeGale-Horton, I’d guess).

Williams looking fantastic with the holding and the flailing in the corner and the running.

by jcarr71 on May 15, 2010 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

Williams-Chisora R1

Williams with an extremely slow left hook, ducked easily by Chisora. Chisora with a jab. Chisora with a left as they lean on one another. Two warnings already for Williams and his holding. He has no conditioning and I don’t think he has any real desire to be here. Williams backs himself into the corner. When Chisora throws, Williams does his best to just lean away and grab up. Williams looks awful. This seems like a corner retirement when Williams just doesn’t feel like getting off the stool eventually.

They report that Ricky Hatton said Williams was a nervous wreck in the locker room. Williams’ legs are gone as Chisora finally lands, and a LEFT HOOK PUTS WILLIAMS ON THE CANVAS!

Look, just stop that. There’s half a round left and he has no intention of putting on a fight. Williams down again and it’s stopped.

I think we’ll learn a lot about Mitchell in particular today. Mitchell hasn’t really fought anyone yet. This is a really big step up. They’re talking about the Ignacio Mendoza fight right now and Mendoza was shot in that fight. That’s one of his best wins. His best is probably Prescott? And Prescott stinks. There’s Carl Johanneson…

Anyway, I’m just saying Katsidis is the first real test for Mitchell. We’ll see what he’s got against a guy like that.

Looks good but he has some bad habits that he needs to get rid of. Hands up when he goes on offense, hands down when he is on defense.

He seems to have very little pop.

by jcarr71 on May 15, 2010 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s hard to really judge… He doesn’t have the power that the other fighters have… Maybe when he gets older the power will come, similar to Cleverly, but like he’s showing here, he doesn’t really buzz Butlin like DeGale would probably do…

by Dafs on May 15, 2010 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think he’s as fast as DeGale though, but he has more punch output… Butlin doesn’t seem bothered with his punches, I think this one will go the distance…

Pants power though.

To his credit he is throwing 100+ punches a round. If he could sit down on like a third of them and only throw 70 a round he would be much better off.

by Waldo Rastel on May 15, 2010 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

he leaves himself very open

and throws wide looping shots at times. against a straight punching fighter that would doom him.

Saunders seems a bit like Juan Diaz at this point. Tons of punches, great body work, little concern for defense, and a potential eventually crippling lack of power. It could just be youthful exuberance though.

Saunders throws from his toes, which is really really weird. He needs to throw two quick punches then plant and throw the last punch of the combo with some power. His punches also need to be straighter.

I actually think that Saunders

Could do with throwing less, and trying to sit down on his punches more, and increasing his accuracy.

Post a fight of a prospect and then have the BLH give advice to the prospect. What people see as flaws and strengths of the fighter and what we would like to see him improve. Katsidis-Mitchell R1

Mitchell jabbing to start but not landing. Katsidis doing nothing for the first minute. Katsidis opens up with a right that misses and a slapping left hook that does land. Left hooks from Katsidis, Mitchell on the ropes. And he gets away quickly. First two minutes are a bit tentative. Mitchell lands a jab, but not much on it.

Katsidis with a right hand. They’re calling this entirely for Mitchell, but he’s done nothing at all so far. Katsidis flurries and I think wins the round.

Katsidis-Mitchell R2

They’re calling this entirely for Mitchell despite his ineffectiveness thus far. Not that Katsidis is being super impressive or easily winning, but Mitchell’s pokey jabs and missed right hands are not “positive” or “nicking” anything.

But Mitchell is having a fine round, and then Katsidis starts coming back and lands a good right and a left hook. Mitchell on the ropes, lands nothing back that he throws, and Katsidis gets hit with an uppercut before the bell. Close round.

Mitchell 10-9

20-19 Katsidis

I’m sure the judges all have it 20-18 Mitchell, but Katsidis landed all the consequential punches there.

Katsidis-Mitchell R3

Katsidis wobbles Mitchell! Mitchell trying to hang on, then turns his back and Parris steps in with Mitchell hurt. Mitchell fighting back! HERE WE GO! KATSIDIS LAYING IN! Mitchell is in big trouble. There’s 2:15 left in this round.

Mitchell is doing OK tying up but his legs are still shot. He’s throwing though! Katsidis still firing away and Mitchell trying to latch onto him.

Right hand Katsidis but Mitchell is still throwing. Another right by Katsidis. Katsidis might be going for something that isn’t going to happen. And Mitchell comes back! Katsidis punching again! Mitchell on the ropes and hit with a left hook and the fight IS OVER!!!

So Katsidis vs. Marquez is set

Because I give Diaz absolutely no chance against Marquez. And even if Diaz does shut me up then Katsidis is going to violently abuse him.

Loss to Marquez, “win” over Paulie followed by a loss. He’s fading.

LMFAO Go Mick

Just staggered out of bed to see how my homie went . So much for the poms and their crowing that Mitchell was going stop Mick . Sounds like the pom ref was as friendly to the out of town fighter as is the norm and that the audience was the usual classy pom fight crowd . Nice to see the Toowoomba bloke get the win. Whatever anyone says Mick has balls and is usually entertaining . Go the Queenslander .
