Pacquaio agrees to 14 days.....

Reports suggest that Pacquiao has agreed to testing up to 14 days before a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather.

Since the Mayweather camp say they offered the 14 day deal before, there should be no reason why this fight does not now happen.

"He [Mayweather] will no longer have a reason [not to fight]," said Pacquiao. "Let's see if that is really the reason."

The BBC also reported this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/8698753.stm

Pacquiao still seems dubious about the amount of blood that will be drawn. "I have agreed to it, but they should not draw much blood," he stipulated.

Anyhow, the biggest fight in boxing could now be back on. Until the next thing arises, that is.

The experts have said a 14 day no testing limit makes the testing pointless, but if this compromise is what it takes for Pacquiao to get in the ring then fine. Mayweather by UD, winning 9-10 rounds and getting his rightful p4p crown back.

So,

is it true that Manny is trying to dictate how much blood can be drawn each time.

This whole thing is already over the “allowable drama” line.

Right?

At this point, neither one of these guys deserves the kind of payday the other would give them. This got turned into a Jerry Springer segment, and went from something that could potentially uplift the sport into a bunch of noise, nonsense, lawyering and raging bullshit. What a shame.

I’m actually glad Chaos put this up as a FanPost because I have so little desire to take up front page space with this shit. It would be good for traffic if I did, but I’m starting to feel like I’m just contributing to the soap opera dogshit that these negotiations have become, when there are a whole lot of other guys out there just fighting, which is what I’m more interested in discussing.

On that note, why is, like, nobody scheduled to fight in June or July? Schedule’s looking pretty barren…

Yeah there’s a slow patch coming up. I do know we’ll have RBR for these:

6/5: Foreman-Cotto
6/19: Ward-Green
6/26: Chavez-Duddy
7/10: Lopez-Concepcion
7/31: Marquez-Diaz II

HBO threw down a LOT of money in the last two months for one thing. I mean look back on this:

3/13: Pacquiao-Clottey
3/27: Maidana-Cayo
4/10: Berto-Quintana
4/17: Pavlik-Martinez and Bute-Miranda
4/24: Arreola-Adamek
5/1: Mayweather-Mosley
5/8: Williams-Cintron
5/15: Khan-Malignaggi

I am thinking RTD 8. After realizing that the mediocre Duddy is still quite a bit better than Troy Rowland, Old Man Chavez pulls the plug. “You were right, bambino… I should’ve let you go to law school.”

Actually, I’m down for Chavez-Duddy. They are about the same level of fighter from what I can see. And even if the fight turns out to be a stinker, the RBR would probably be fun.

Honestly?

I’m not entirely sure on my own case. I never got a warning for anything ever, but one time there was a discussion about how subo got banned last year, and I always enjoyed the back-and-forth with him. After I heard how his banning went down, I said that was weak (literally, that’s all I said.. “weak”) and apparently that’s enough to invoke rule #4 (don’t piss off the mods!) and I got banned.

Kittias was discussing race in a racism/racial impact on MMA thread and got banned.

Both were by Kid Nate. Nate even left me a little message on the “You’re banned” pop-up that says “How’s this for weak?” Very strange conduct.

I'll stop at this comment because it's so off-topic to the thread,

but the quality of comments has consistently deteriorated since pretty much the time I got banned. Whatever system-wide changes they’re implementing are really changing the dynamics of that site. Used to be you’d read the articles to get your bearings, but the comments is where all of the good stuff happened (kinda like here, actually..). Now? It’s really turning into Mania or Sherdog-level commenting. Another six months on this track and that’s exactly where it’ll end up.

A pity, since they did provide the top-shelf for MMA news/analysis for quite some time. All things end, I suppose.

When the talks broke down and Top Rank

was going to walk away the Mayweather camp was still trying to make the fight happen by offering up to 14 days before the fight. But now that they got him down to that many days and they haven’t even starting talking I expect Mayweather to take that off the table.

I'll point out that this is the same tactic

JFK’s team used when negotiating (ha!) the Cuban Missile Crisis, and it kinda/sorta worked out.

Take a presumably ‘off-the-table’ option and agree to it, then see if the other side REALLY wants to go through with their threats.

Man this is just a mess I am a fan of boxing but I do not think this fight is going to happen on both parts since Mosley did the testing Pac going to have to agree! Since Floyd sold more on PPV he going to want more of the money and as soon as the fight dont get done both camps are going to start crying and pointing fingers! I wish they would say 45 45 and ten to the winner and call it a day and both do drug test and get the fight over with I do not see Manny beating Floyd but it could happen they both need to swallow pride and just get it done.

by baller4life on May 25, 2010 6:24 PM EDT reply actions

45 - 45 and 10

would be sweet but I can’t see it happening. It will be the fairest thing for them as there is hardly anything to split between the two of them.

I think this is a situation where Boxing needs a governing body. Just the single one and not with all the shitty trinket’s like the IBF WBA and all the other bollocks. It would just get done, they could stiplulate that the purse will be split 45 45 and the other 10 to the winner and that will be that! Instead we have a cheap soap opera where the fans lose out!

by Sweet science on May 26, 2010 6:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Mayweather wont agree to the 14 days and if he does he will want the bigger part of the cut, which I think is ok. If they made Bob Arum sit in the hallway while they went over the contract then this fight would of been made the first time around and everyone would of won

"I'm scared every time I go into the ring, but it's how you handle it. What you have to do is plant your feet, bite down on your mouthpiece and say, 'Let's go.'" Mike Tyson

Mayweather will demand a larger cut after his PPV numbers against Mosley. Even if there is an agreement over drug testing then watch the pay split become the next issue.

by shaykh on May 26, 2010 5:00 AM EDT up reply actions

If you look at all the facts only one person deserves the blame for this mess. Manny Pacquiao. Everything he wants now. The 14 days. 50-50 split. He had all that. And he said no. Mayweather clearly stated that he would ask for a bigger share if his PPV did better. It did. So why is Pac and his camp acting all surprise? Take the 40% and make the damn fight.

Pacquiao needs to become his own man.

As Mayweather said; once Pacquiao can be his own man then the fight can happen. I truly believe it because the gist of the points on this blog pretty much sums up that Bob Arum is the reason why this fight cannot be made ( and/or Freddy Roach ). I have no hate for Pacquiao, he’s a great champion, but the negotiations were in Pacquiao’s favor in their initial talks of a super fight. You have $10mil per pound over; 8oz gloves for a Welterweight fight; ring size — yet Mayweather wants to even the odds by wanting USADA testing.

However you cut the crap cake, 14 days is pointless according to the experts. I’m sure a lot of Mayweather-haters ( who I consider Boxing haters ) are using the report that USADA posted about how the testing for Mayweather-Mosley stopped 18 days before the fight and this will remove any luster Mayweather has gained since his win over the legitimate #1 Welterweight.

Bob Arum & Roach know that Pacquiao CAN go through with the testing without a hitch but they constantly bring up crap about Mayweather getting his way when in actuality it’s Top Rank who’s doing the finger pointing since Mayweather failed to make weight in the Marquez fight. The obvious threat is Mayweather, Top Rank & Roach wan’t Pacquiao to harness every advantage possible against the current “King of PPV”. Pacquiao can’t make super fight money against anyone BUT Mayweather, however, Mayweather can make what he wants against another more threatening opponent — Sergio Martinez or Andre Berto thanks to his ability to promote.

And yes…I said Andre Berto, but, Berto won’t necessarily be ‘THAT’ guy until he manages to rematch Luis Collazo, and win convincingly. Until then Sergio Martinez fits the bill, I think…

It’s funny how some people ignored the fact that Manny had all his demands met and still said no. And now the one reason he said no too he’s now say yes to. Interesting. Could it be he could not pass the tests back than. But after a clean out process he now can?

Thank Bob Arum's ability to multitask.

The Clottey fight was pretty much a done deal during the latter period of the negotiations. Arum plans on doing that now.

Top Rank feels that since Manny agreed to 14 days, calling Mayweather’s bluff, they have made headway into the realm of proving that Mayweather is ducking Pacquiao, giving them a reason to completely disregard Mayweather, once again, and go forth with the Margarito fight November.

I’ll put it like this. If Manny ends up fighting Margarito, his luster will slowly fade if Mayweather counters Top Rank’s move by taking on Sergio Martinez ( a far more dangerous opponent than Pacquiao ) at 154 or a 160 catchweight for the lineal Middleweight strap. Mayweather gets his 7th title in his 6th weight division, whilst Pacquiao remains fighting in-house Top Rank fighters.

ADVANTAGE: Mayweather

I wouldn’t put it pass Mayweather to work out some kind of deal ala Ray Leonard did that would allow him to not only challenge for the Middleweight title but Martinez 154 title as well. He does that and wins, he’ll be asking for 70-30. With 8 titles in 6 weight classes it’ll be hard to blame him for it

If a man ain't found something worth dying for. He ain't fit to live.

by Violent Demise on May 28, 2010 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions

That would be a thing of genius..

If Martinez goes on to make $10-15 million against Mayweather and loses both straps, atleast Martinez wouldn’t be mad about it because he made the biggest payday of his career and possibly could retire comfortably.

I could see another 1.0, perhaps 1.1 million PPV buys. Mayweather could make a good $25-30 million. It could be lower than 1 million buys due to the fact that nobody knows who Sergio Martinez is, outside of hardcore Boxing fans, and everyone will be mad because his opponent isn’t Pacquiao. Same goes for Pacquiao vs Margarito.

Mayweather vs Martinez = 800k – 1mil PPV buys
Pacquiao vs Margarito = 500k – 800k PPV buys

On the upside, a win over Martinez would do Mayweather a great deal of justice to all the naysayers and will undoubtedly be the #1 P4P, once again, as well as one of the all-time greats in the sport who would have acquired his 8th title in his 6th weight division. Matching Pacquiao, given Mayweather fights Martinez and Pacquiao takes on Margarito.
