Bad Left Hook Fight Scoring - A Suggestion
While I enjoy BLH for a lot of reasons, fight-night commentary is hands down on the top of the list. I particularly like seeing everyone's scores in real time, because it gives me feedback on my own scoring and whether I'm seeing the same fight as everyone else. So, while scoring the Perez-Mares fight last weekend, I had an idea.
Generally speaking, in the recap posts, SC or Brick will say, "Bad Left Hook had it 116-112 for X," which is the score that the post writer had for the fight. On most fights, particularly the huge ones, both Brick and SC will score the fight. So, since we already have two scores, why don't we make a regular commenter/contributor the third judge, and have "Official Bad Left Hook Scoring" that's comprised of the results from the three judges. I think it might provoke some extra discussion, and it would be pretty cool to keep a log or records of how the site, with a representative from the readers, scores fights over time. Just a little thought.

Awesome idea!
I would like to see the third judge to be a moving chair for regular posters, as well as having posters sit in if SC or Brick is unavailable.
That would seem pretty doable. There are so many posters who score fights regularly that it should be pretty easy to find people to handle it. Would be a nice way to honor some of the more active posters, i.e. jrok, Rambler, etc.

FanPosts do not necessarily reflect the views of the editors of Bad Left Hook or SB Nation. They might, though.
Iv only just realised that, has that always been there? Last sentence made me giggle like a bitch lol
As for the post, thats a good idea, don’t know how much work would have to go into it but SC might be able to arange somthing
One way to handle it would just be to have a FanPost every week before a big fight asking for volunteers to serve as the 3rd judge, and then SC or Brick or whoever could just pick someone each week, maybe even have a backup if someone can’t make it, etc.
It would be pretty cool at the end of the year to look at the best and worst BLH cards and thoroughly roast anyone who goes Van Hoy on us!

The Van Hoy Award!
I like it. I think I saw a 9-3 card on the Perez-Mares RBR last week that might be an early front runner.

I initially scored round 12 for Perez.
Who was outpunched like 45-10.
Oops.

No I think the 9-3 was for Mares

Oh, I know
I wound up scoring it a draw after fixing my Round 12 screwup. But I do remember that someone had a REALLY wide Mares card which seemed off.

Paulie would not be happy if someone Van Hoyed him again

I like this idea. It’s extra post-fight analysis and after thinking it over for half a minute, I am:
1. Ashamed I never thought of this before
2. Going to do it
We’ll have three-to-five judges chairs for fights. Generally, of course, I’m going to be one, since I cover the majority of the fights. Brick I’d assume will likely be in there as often as he’d like to be, and then we’ll have guest regulars.
The reason to go up to five for major fights is that assuming Brick and myself are both in the mix for that fight, that leaves just one seat open for people that might want to get involved. Five is the next odd number up and gives us three spots for you guys to fill. Minor fights (Sky cards, ESPN2 cards, etc.) might have just three, if three people are interested in doing it.
What I’d like to do is the regular coverage, and then the next day, have a post-fight analysis post about our cards. It’d be nice if we could get even short input from those who “officially” score the fight with us. You wouldn’t have to write an essay (unless you want to), just email me something with your score (round-by-round) and then a short analysis. Or a long analysis. Sometimes it’s going to be really simple, but you can ramble on if you want to, no matter how bland and easy the fight was to score, if you have something you want to say.
I guess for upcoming fights we’ll have a sign-up post or something like that. Those who would like to be considered for a “chair” can sign up, and once everyone’s signed up who’s interested, I’ll pick the scorers out of a hat, with scout’s honor that that’s how I’ll actually do it. It’ll be totally random, and I’m not going to limit how many times in a row someone can do it. If people want to contribute, I’m not going to say no. This might wind up with interested folks getting left out repeatedly while some are seemingly always involved, and if that comes up we’ll figure it out then. People will be free to decline if they’d like to, or if something comes up for them.

I'm down
But I wouldn’t be able to start for a couple weeks. There’s a small chance I might be back home in time for the Cotto-Foreman main event.

Sounds like a good idea
I’ll be far too sleep deprived during most big fights to create anything close to sensible judging, though!
