Bad Left Hook Live Boxing Results and Commentary: Tyson Fury v. John McDermott II
Today at 5:30pm EDT, Sky Sports 2 will present the rematch between big-talking Tyson Fury and John McDermott. The two fought to a very controversial decision win for Fury last September, with referee Terry O'Connor coming under heavy fire for his 98-92 card that gave Fury the win.
Today's fight will be refereed by Dave Parris, with judges Howard John Foster, Richard James Davies and Victor Loughlin at ringside. The fight is for the vacant English heavyweight title, and an eliminator for the British belt. Fury came in at 270 pounds on the scale, with McDermott at 254. Last time out, Fury weighed 247, and his career-high 270 could be an issue. Even at 6'7", that's a lot of weight in the ring.

Who are you picking SC?
I hope McDermott can put in a good performance again and hopefully he gets a fair shake.Something tells me Fury gets this one though,by fair means or foul (once again).
I like Fury by stoppage in this one, and fairly early. McDermott really isn’t very good. What does worry me is that Fury hasn’t fought since September AND has put on so much weight.
But I’m openly rooting for McDermott. Fury’s a jerk and could use a second humbling at the hands of a mediocre domestic fighter.

Oops, I forgot Fury had that fight in March. So scratch that part. Although that fight was against a can.

I know John will probably never get to even British title level but i’m not sure Fury is that good either.I thought McDermott won the first fight pretty convincingly and if anything O’Connor’s scorecard should have been the oppostite of what it was.
Looking forward to tonight. There’s likely to be some unintentional comedy. :)
Oh I don’t think Tyson is anything to get much excited about unless he changes how he fights almost completely.

Fury
had a fair set of love handles on him as he was so he must have the full spare truck tyre around his waist at 270lbs.As you say, could be a factor.
Imo,in the last fight MacDermott proved that he can box a tidy fight when he is motivated and Fury proved that he can’t.He’s a very messy fighter.
Who knows if this is true
But I heard he’s actually much slimmer at the weight, and most of the extra weight is upper body muscle.

Come on Big Bad John.
I’ve never much liked Tyson Fury, but I’m thoroughly appalled by his weight, and really hope McDermott pulls it out the bag.

Hey guys, did you actually see the weigh in? Fury looked real good. Much stonger, and even leaner looking than he did at 247. Do not let the 270 fool you.
I see a stoppage here for Tyson.
Fury may trip over his own right upper cut, again.

Haha
This time he will throw it,get it caught in his trunks, stretch his trunks over his head, rip em and pop his head out just in time for McMuffin to KO him.
Now that might sound a bit far fetched but……………………
Hahaha!

His trunks actually almost did fall down once. We should all chip together and buy the lad a lace!

I watched some of the weigh in and in fairness to Fury, he’s a big lad but he did appear more solid than flabby. I was suprised, at 270 I thought he would look like a sack of shit, but I was wrong. McD didn’t look to great though. His boxer shorts looked liked theyed been worn that long, theyed stick to the wall.
I’m going for Fury based on what I saw from the weigh in.
by Phill on Jun 25, 2010 3:56 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Yeah a few have said that Phil.
To be honest i find it hard to believe that you lose fat and and gain muscle naturally,to that extent anyway.
I mean.if he looked lean and was the same weight i wouldn’t question it but to actually gain weight and look slimmer is a bit suspicious to me.
He didn’t appear slimmer, just “thick set”. I could be wrong though. Have a squint on the “other” site

We’ll see later I suppose. Surely though it can’t be good to pile on too much weight. These are supposed to be pro’s. You’d think they have a golden opportunity in front of them, youth, some skills, so why not grab the chance while you can. Look at the Klits, they’re cosumate pro’s, always in good nick.
No wonder they are still on top.

But usually you don’t need to look too hard to find Friday Fight Night streams. They like having more people worldwide watching. They’re smart like that. More revenue down the line.

HBO and UFC crack down hard on their big fights. But those are generally PPV too. Sky cracks down on their PPV shows too. But I’ve never seen a Friday Fight Night get pulled.

As much as I might not think a ton of Tyson Fury, I will say that at 6’7" and with a huge frame, he does seem to have some actual athletic ability. He can move around pretty well for his size. He’s messy, but if he gets refined, he DOES have a future.

Well, as much as I hate to say it, Fury looks in real shape.
I like the fact that he’s taking this seriously, rather than pissing around walking in like the last fight. McDermott is a nutter.

Looking at them in the ring, McDermott seems very nervy and Fury is relaxed and in very good shape. He just looks solid at 270. Love handles a bit, but through the chest he’s solid. I like Fury with an early stoppage even more now than before.

Fury-McDermott R1

Jab from Fury, right hand from McDermott. Fury can be so awkward. He’s so young he’s still getting a handle on his own size. McDermott stalking, Tyson not doing a whole lot beyond whipping his jab out. And there’s a right hand by Fury! Very nice combination there. Right hand, left hook, McDermott getting tagged! Long jab by McDermott. He’s not lacking for guts. Never has.
Fury’s hand speed looks good. Right hand from Fury is just short. That might have chopped McDermott down had it actually landed, which the Sky team believes it did. Fury’s jab work is very good, and he’s playing with that right hand. Now he Ali shuffles, and McDermott staggers Fury with a right hand! Mostly off balance, but maybe he’ll learn. He probably won’t ever learn to check his ego until someone really kicks his ass, though.
Great first round for Fury. Overall the best he’s ever looked.

Fury-McDermott R2

McDermott starting to get inside a little better in the first minute of this round. Not doing anything amazing, but Fury’s stopped moving so much. There he gets back to moving and shooting the jab out. Fury looks odd in there. Jim Watt is making note of it, too. He looked over at his corner for some reason and his pace is dying. Now he ties McDermott up.
Right hand McDermott! Fury throws an uppercut back, and now he’s winging shots. Fury opening up. And Dave Parris winds up backwards behind them on the ropes. Dave Parris is just an awful referee. Absolutely awful. He’s about as good as I would be.
Much better round for McDermott, but Fury still took it.

Fury-McDermott R3

Fury throwing the jab again. Wings a right, that misses. Fury turns southpaw now, but that’s more because that’s how he wound up than anything, it appears. McDermott working on him in the corner, but Fury turns him around and unleashes some shots to the body. Nobody landing solid over there.
Fury jabbing, now sticking his left hand out and McDermott just goes under it and jabs Fury in the mush. Right hand McDermott clips Fury. Fury flings a good one that seems to shake McDermott up a bit. Close round and I think Fury takes it again. The longer this goes, the more it looks just like Fury’s always looked.

Fury starting to really let his power shots go now. McDermott is looking more and more like a zombie in there. He’s really got nothing tonight. Left hook by McDermott. Every time Fury gets clipped with a power shot he completely stops and tries to get the hell away. McDermott might have really hurt Fury, who looks terrible all of a sudden. This fight is getting weird to watch, but very needles and pins. It feels like it could end at any moment.
Now Fury is starting to amp it up a bit again. Hell for all I know McDermott is in the weeds waiting for the big boy to gas out. I thought McDermott took this one.

Fury-McDermott R5

It’s like McDermott is daring Fury to mix it up with him. McDermott really stalking to start this round, moving straight at Fury. Fury targets the body again, then there’s a right upstairs. Right over the top by McDermott, doesn’t land, but it AGAIN makes Fury think and stop for a moment. Fury with a nice 1-2. Fury’s ego is swelling again, as he drops his hands to his sides and taunts McDermott, who does nothing.
Right hand by McDermott, but Fury smacks him at the same time, and Fury’s shot was better. Fury’s jab worked so well in the first round and he’s barely used it since. McDermott really coming in on him now, but Fury’s picking him apart. Still, Tyson looks tired at moments. If he can’t get McDermott out of there, the late rounds could get interesting.

Fury-McDermott R6

McDermott’s trainer slaps him before the round starts. McDermott comes out with a left hook. They report that Fury said he was tired in the corner, and said, “Get the water on me quick.”
And Fury is coming out a bit sluggish, but he’s throwing. Right hand McDermott! Fury is starting to get hit like the first fight. McDermott trying to really work on him, and Fury is laying on McDermott. Fury could be in some trouble. Fury getting admonished by Parris, and Fury is gassed out.
Fury is totally gassed out in there. He’s winging shots but they’re total arm punches. McDermott is pressuring him to death. Uppercuts from McDermott. Fury lays on McDermott again. Fury looks awful now. Fury running across the ring to avoid McDermott.
Fury cut over his right eye!
McDermott left hook! McDermott pouring it on this round. It’s not the most impressive display. Fury staring at his corner like he wants them to quit for him. This has turned in a BIG, BIG way!

McDermott coming out fast! Fury ties him up again. Parris should really consider a point for holding against Fury. Fury with a body shot. There’s just nothing on his shots anymore. Fury firing! McDermott is nailed with a shot. But Fury just cannot back McDermott down at all.
Parris warning both of them. I don’t know what McDermott would be warned for. Trying to fight?
Well, Fury has some guts. He looks awful but he’s still fighting. McDermott on him again! Fury looks like he might straight up fall over. Fury wings more shots! Parris warns Fury for holding.
This is a strange round to watch. Like a couple of drunks trying to fight. Fury loses a point for holding! About time.
Right hand McDermott, Fury turns around and throws back plenty of shots. Tough round to score, but I go with McDermott.

usually there’s an identifiable reason for hyping a guy, even when objective minds can look at the guy and say “no, he doesn’t have the goods”. In Fury’s case, he does nothing well. I can’t identify one thing that I’d say is a “contender-level” trait.

McDermott walking him down constantly. McDermott just laying it in now. Fury taking these massive gulps of air whenever he gets a chance to. Whenever Parris breaks them apart, Fury wanders away and looks down, getting as far away as he can.
Fury, for all you can say bad about him in this fight, DOES have a lot of heart. His tank is clearly on E and he keeps throwing shots, at least in spurts. He’s not giving up, he’s just physically finished in there.
McDermott having trouble getting close again. But there’s a left hook. Fury lands and DOWN GOES MCDERMOTT!!!!
McDermott up, but he’s also on E. Bell sounds, and the round ends. I had Fury taking that round anyway, but that’s a big point.
