Promoters are still the best characters in this show. And now I need to get writing on a comedy TV pilot…

I cant get enough of this show.

I heart Ken Hershman…

“Your business sucks.”

“If you’re going to sign on to something, don’t undermine it, and don’t make it out to be ‘typical boxing,’”
“I get the feeling from all of the public bickering that we’re not maximizing our potential,” said the Showtime Sports general manager, adding, “This is supposed to change the way that the public thinks about this sport,” and, “This is supposed to change the way that the fans think about this sport.”

this show kicks ass.

This show is seriously underrated. I feel like I’m getting more from it than HBO’s 24/7.

oh yea – I’m with you. This show is way better than 24/7. I really like the raw footage plus no commentary perspective. It’s great.

The part where Carl Froch apologizes to his girl is really great insight. There have been other similar moments in the series that are too spontaneous to ever survive the over-production of 24/7.

And I appreciate 24/7 too, this is just a step above.

I especially enjoy the footage of the fight with the special focus on the mangers and the corner men. A new perspective that is rarely covered in the boxing world.

With this show, it really is all about boxing, whether it’s the fight or the political wrangling. 24/7 is, and always has been, just a promotional tool. Fight Camp really blows it out of the water in terms of intrigue.

This is terrific. This is what happens when you cover boxing like a sport, not like a non-fake version of pro wrestling. The marketing department should work for the sports department, not the other way around. [Looks sidelong at HBO]

Some miscellaneous observations

- Froch is ridiculous, but I’m increasingly finding it amusing more than annoying. I think it’s because he has a hint of self-awareness even while he’s being ridiculous. But sometimes he’s still annoying. He should have given Kessler more credit.
- Allan Green’s personality is actually kind of similar to Froch’s personality. “Kessler could not understand Andre Ward’s jive…. I can understand jive. I speak it very well.” I could totally imagine Froch saying that if he had grown up black in the U.S.
- Froch’s dad was a bad man. (In the Ali sense.) Froch’s mom has a funny last name (Weatherbed).
- Goossen is very unlikeable. I went into this thinking I’d hate Shaw the most, but it hasn’t worked out that way.
- Wilfried Sauerland has no rhythm.
- LOL Kalle Sauerland: “You’re the man! You’re the f***ing man!”
- Re: Froch’s girlfriend – I think that’s the tightest dress I’ve seen a pregnant woman wear.
- Ward is a terrible singer.
- Every one of the cutaways to the family and the trainers during the fight was great.
- Abraham speaking English is guaranteed comedy gold. “I am here for the watching the box!”

All I know is Lou DiBella is a funny foil for both of them. It’s like he’s just waiting to break balls.

From everything I've seen

Lou Dibella seems like a pretty reasonable guy. If I had to advise a boxer on who to sign on with, Dibella would be at the top of my list.

Froch's girlfriend is hot

Just thought I’d throw this in here because it is somehow related to your comment

by steak_knife on Jun 5, 2010 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Great stuff. Froch was really despondent in the immediate aftermath of the loss — he said something like “everything is going to be so different now,” to his girlfriend. He resumed the tough guy talk pretty quickly thereafter, but it was a nice glimpse into where he really was mentally.

I can't watch this in the UK

But I have been able to watch all the others, very odd. Any suggestions?

No worries

I got around it :)

Random thoughts

Ken is great, I love the way he can say whatever he likes to the promoters, and they can’t really say much back, seeing as they pretty much rely on him for a living.

“Your business sucks” – So true.

If we have a Promoter of the Year award at the end of the year, I say DiBella should get it based on his actions in this show.

This tournament is essentially better than anything that HBO have been doing, as this show is better than 24/7. When I watched Hatton – Pacquiao 24/7 I thought that it was un-paralleled, what a joy to have something far better than that!

Froch seriously seems to believe that he deserved the win against Dirrell, that’s more than a tad worrying.

This has definitely helped psyche me up for the rest of the tournament!

I agree that Fight Camp 360 is way better than 24/7 but

I think one of the advantages it has is the ongoing saga of the Super Six Tournament. We get to see the fallout from each round of fights whereas 24/7 only shows us the before and never the after. Seeing how a fighter, his camp, his family, etc. deal with a victory or a loss is very compelling stuff. Also the drama and intrigue that come with the twists and turns of the tournament make for good TV.

With all that being said I still think Fight Camp 360 is great and certainly better than 24/7. My biggest gripe about 24/7 is all the staged promotional shots take away from the feeling of “realism” (i.e. Manny Pacquiao shadowboxing on the roof of a Las Vegas hotel). Fight Camp 360 just feels more natural and organic. For all I know they stage a lot of their shots too, but if they do they do it in a manner that feels much more “real”.
