Open Letter from Marcos Maidana
Gist of the letter: Maidana is not hurt, was never told about the Bradley fight until after it was supposedly signed, has fired his manager, and isn't even sure who his promoters are. This helps explain a lot, and also provides a view to the often underhanded side of boxing managers.

It's a shame, but you have to feel this happens in boxing more than we know.
Maidana is a talented kid and I hope he gets this resolved soon. Would love to see Alexander push his date back a month and have a big fight with Maidana. I’d be pretty shocked if DLH doesn’t get this handled pretty quickly, as they have been seen as the “good guy” promoter over the last couple years (especially compared to Arum and Don King!)
Wow. Hopefully the power guys at Golden Boy can sort this out and get Maidana’s career where it belongs.

I was wondering what was going on with Maidana, because there had been no news about his “back injury” or his timetable for return, possible opponents, etc. This definitely explains it.
All I know is, I’m going to be massively PISSED if these shenanigans disrupt his career for any meaningful amount of time. I really enjoy watching him fight.

Maidana was already an easy guy to root for, just watching him fight, but this really makes you feel for him. He’s done so much to get his career going, and deserves a heck of a lot better than the treatment he appears to have taken. Good luck to the guy, hope to see him back in the ring ASAP.

He is near impossible to hate on this guy….
I want him to do well for reasons outside the ring, and you knew that there was something shady for him to suddenly back off from a fight that would be by far his biggest payday.

This all sounds very realistic (and unfortunate) the way Marcos lays it out. The only truly weird part is Golden Boy refusing to release copies of the contracts. I mean, even if they are worried about being open to some kind of lawsuit, I can’t see how they stand to gain anything by obstruction.
Maybe Brick or lcollins might have some kind of insight into what might be at play here???

They're not going to want to make the contract public for a myriad of reasons
Not the least of which is that they give better or worse business terms to different fighters, and they don’t want to have to negotiate against themselves. Maidana should have a copy of the contract, especially if he signed it. And if his manager signed the contract, he did so as Maidana’s attorney-in-fact, and his beef is really with his former manager. That said, it would be a nice move to fly him out to LA or wherever GBP is based and let him go through the contract in person with a lawyer. But after putting out an open letter, I’d be weary about sending him a copy in fear he might make it public.
My understanding was always that Universum is Maidana’s European promoter, GBP is his North American promoter, and someone else (maybe Sampson Lefkowicz, can’t remember) is his South American promoter. Too many chiefs, maybe.

Ah, I see it now. Still, it sounds like something that could be handled privately withouta lot of ruckus. He does sound pissed, though.
