Per Cameron Dunkin, via Kevin Iole. No word yet on whether he'll still be able to make the junior middleweight limit, as he was reportedly in the 190 pound range around sentencing. Dunkin says he may have a tune-up fight before the end of the year.

190!

Has he been over eating, or pumping a lot of iron in prison?
Either way, he’s going to suffer for it.

It’s hard to eat well or get much proper cardio (especially with prisons keeping prisoners in their cells more hours than ever) in the joint, so 190 isn’t shocking. Three months of serious training and a warm-up, possibly at 160, and Kirk’ll be ready.

Kevin Iole really knows how to bury a lead! That was the only interesting bit of news in the whole article and he puts it all the way at the bottom. What an idiot.

They probably only serve total crap food in prison. I read something a while back about how they were giving him lots of mac and cheese.

I would imagine it’s very similar to the lunches they give out in public school, but maybe worse.

Yeesh. How does that Dostoevsky quote go again?

But then, I’m sure they would never do that to prisoners in Texas.

look into Aramark corporation and what they do with prison labor. The prison industrial complex is a for-profit business in Texas (and Florida especially) – my school’s cafeteria is owned and managed by Aramark – the food we eat was raised/harvested/slaughtered in facilities that use prisoner labor paid at the rate of .60 cents an hour.

How can a small business compete when some company’s are wholly exempt from minimum wage? – they can’t

And I won’t say anything else on this as it could prob get pretty “hot-button”.

Yeah, I know. (I didn’t know all the details but I know there’s some shady business out there, especially in certain states.) I was just being ironic, in the same vein as the Simpsons (“No jury in the world is going to convict a baby. Well, maybe Texas.”).

It’s no where close. People forget Kirkland is in a federal prison. Where conditions are better than that of a state prison. Not only that, prisoners are allowed to buy canteen. Which is food, grooming products and other misc items. Things are paid for with the money a prisoner has on his books. Something tells me Kirkland probably has a good amount of money on his books. So I’m sure he’s eating very well. Being 190 actually shows he’s tried to at least keep himself in some kind of shape

Oh, that’s different. I didn’t know it was federal prison.

Food, cardio

in prison: Canteen is a fact just about anywhere: If he has money, he would be eating a lot of tuna, and he can buy food (and pretty good shit) from convicts who work in the kitchen. Any warm weather state, as long as he isn’t in lockdown, would leave him plenty of opportunity for a cardio workout—running the perimeter of the facility.

Anyone can do push-ups, sit-ups, and find a way to do chin-ups in any prison.

I’d bet on his facility having a full weight pile and at least one heavy bag.
Now, if he were in a really nasty Tex-ass prison he might be working the fields anyway.

It’s not surprising that he balloned to 190. He’ll shed it in no time, ut JK has to get both his body AND his head straight before he mounts a comeback. No more of this b.s. with guns. If he was worried about getting into dicey situations with local morons, then move somewhere else.

If it was “something else” he wanted to do with them, then that’s a horse of a different color. Go get himself some church or something.

He’d better be in good shape…Ann Wolfe is going to kick his ass soon as he passes through the prison gates.

I love love love

James Kirkland. I think he is such an exciting fighter. Like a junior middleweight version of Mike Tyson but with more skill. The skys the limit for this kid. Hopefully he can keep his nose clean, and not get popped for unneccesary parole violations.

I love him too. I don’t think he’s as skilled as a young Tyson, who had legit boxing skill. Kirk is a pure seek and destroy guy. He does have better punch technique than other like guys – Angulo and Mayorga type guys. Kirk’s straight left is just nasty.

He reminds me of a southpaw Nigel Benn with that heavy handed, search and destroy style. If he was around 190 at the time of sentencing then he’s had time to do a few sit-ups.

Ha ha

Ya the 190 is scary. Could he possibly fight at 175 or 168?

But he punches like a guy who is 6'6''....

:)

Now, Tweek, boxing is a Man sport. There is nothing in the world more Man than boxing. It is Man at his most Man. So when you spar with Ned here, just dig deep into that most Man part of you. (Uncle Jimbo, South Park: Tweek vs Craig)

Needs is too strong a word

But it would be nice to have him back!
