I really hope these fights are more competitive than I think they'll be
After a great night of boxing last night, it seems like this one is destined to be a let down.

I’m just hoping for excitement, hoping that Bernabe and Marquez just go for the gusto and force Lopez and Donaire to ramp it up.

What do you think of Hatton's chances on Friday?
I like Hatton, not because he’s good but because he makes the most of his attributes… But I think Nuzhenko, limited and stiff as he is, will have too much for ‘Magic Man’.
I don’t think Matthew can beat him without some help. Nuzhenko is just better than him.

What happened to the discussion of
Lopez v. Gamboa? – I know that they decided to delay it, but now Marquez has completely stolen show there?

They’ve said they’re holding it until 2011, maybe in the summer. Arum wants “the biggest featherweight fight ever,” which he of course will not get, and after Marquez there’s nowhere else for either of them to go unless they and/or Top Rank ball up and fight Caballero.

It was first an excuse for Lopez to dodge Caballero...
Then it was used as an excuse for Lopez and Gamboa to dodge Caballero…
Now, the public think Lopez-Gamboa is a great idea, and ignore Caballero…

There’s something about Donaire that bugs me. But he’s a good fighter and I’ll always be happy to see him on TV. Glad to see him for the first time since 2007 not on a PPV.
Bad Left Hook
"To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..."
The fact that he's been a midget murderer for the past three years has bugged me...
Every physical advantage is with Donaire… It’s been three years this week since he defeated Darchinyan, and since then he’s done fuck all.
Jesus, Donaire (5’6") has four inches of height and six and a half inches of reach (68" to 61.5"). Great matchmaking, Top Rank. Every bit as good as Donaire’s last shitty fight.
Bad Left Hook
"To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..."
There’s just something about a blatant mismatch like this one that makes me really root for the underdog. Not because I blame Donaire, but because Top Rank has it coming for these awful matchups.

Donaire's in an experimental phase
You know. Drugs, bisexuality. Southpaw stance.
Donaire fighting southpaw because "he wants to challenge himself"
If you want to challenge yourself, why not fight a legitimate opponent or two?

Donaire-Marquez R1

Right hook by Marquez. Well that’s a start. Donaire’s out to fight left-handed. He says he’s fighting southpaw now, apparently. He is a natural lefty, but this is probably really stupid. Donaire shoots a long uppercut but misses by a mile.
Basically we’re watching Donaire screw around because he has no respect for the guy across the ring from him. P4P no. 4, ladies and gentlemen. Important and legitimate fight here on TV.
Donaire not doing much of anything in the first two minutes. Marquez with a straight left. Donaire has really landed nothing of note at all this round. Misses a long left, but there he lands a right hand shot that shakes Marquez a bit.
Marquez 10-9
Bad Left Hook
"To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day..."
He's a little too square at southpaw...
which allows Marquez to land that right hook… If he gets back to orthodox, he’ll still land that straight left, so why the disrespectful “experiment”?
Donaire-Marquez R2

Donaire going on the offensive a bit more to start this round. Marquez shoots a right hook but it’s short, Donaire’s counter doesn’t land either. Left hand chops Marquez, and another one gets in. Marquez with a right. Left hand landing well for Donaire now. Left lands again, and again. Uppercut and long left from Donaire, who’s starting to take over.
This really does feel like “experimentation,” and I echo Brick’s sentiment: if you want to “challenge yourself,” take a legitimate opponent. Marquez is trying, but he’s too small, too inexperienced, and way out of his league. We’re talking about a guy Richie Mepranum beat without much difficulty.
Donaire 10-9

Donaire-Marquez R3

Donaire looking like he’s ready to start timing Marquez, who is recklessly coming inside. He can’t work his way in because he’s too small, so he has to just fly in there all willy nilly. Marquez gets in a straight left after going to the body and he’s going to try to steal this round in the final minute. Given that Donaire hasn’t done a lot in this round, he just might be taking it. Marquez landing just as well as Donaire but they call all the Donaire shots like they’re all devastating. Marquez did steal this round, I think, but I could go either way.

Donaire-Marquez R4

Left hand by Donaire, then an uppercut gets in, but Marquez fires back, too. Bernstein is starting to call the fight evenly while Gus more or less stays up Donaire’s hind quarters. Ooh! Ooooh! Oh! Ooooh!!!
Uppercut by Donaire. Ooooh!!!! OOOOH!!! Marquez pops him with another good shot. That wasn’t ooh-worthy I guess. Left hand by Donaire. This has been a good round for Nonito to be sure, but as Bernstein points out, he’s still getting hit.
Donaire 10-9

Much better round for him, but Marquez is still nailing him with some hard, flush shots. If Donaire doesn’t switch back to orthodox, there’s a risk he could get knocked out late. Fortunate;ly for Donaire, Marquez is headhunting.

Donaire-Marquez R5

This is like when Chris Jericho feuded with Nick Patrick and since Patrick was a referee, Jericho wrestled with one hand behind his back to make it more even.
Now Nonito is going right-handed. It’s about time. Switching southpaw is just a stupid, stupid idea. It could be an effective piece of his puzzle, but changing your game at 27 is moronic. Marquez opening up on him more now, but there’s a left hook by Donaire! Marquez is down!
Now since Nonito is back to what he knows how to do, he’s just toying with the undersized, overmatched fighter they shamelessly put him in with. This is pathetic to watch outside of Marquez’s guts. He has no chance now that Donaire decided to pull his head out of his ass.

Donaire-Marquez R6

Left hand stings Marquez again. This is absurd now. It’s a man against a boy. Donaire rips him again. Orthodox he’s just destroying this poor kid, and Marquez doesn’t even want to engage because it’s such an impossible task for him.
This is what we expected it to be now, and Donaire could probably close this show any time he feels like it.

Donaire-Marquez R7

In the corner, Hernan Marquez looks totally overwhelmed. But he comes out fighting again. Gus Johnson has no credibility in boxing (I’m sure he’d say the same of me) and listening to him call this fight is making me ill. How can you sit there and watch this fight and not point out that this is a clear, blatant mismatch, that Marquez really, for all his guts, has no business in the ring with Nonito Donaire, and tell me instead about Donaire’s “great head and shoulder movement”?
Not much action this round, but when Donaire feels like it he just picks Marquez apart. I hate this fight.

I don't think it was a fluke, more of a lapse of caution from Juanma

was planning to have Lopez-Marquez and Klitschko-Povetkin(on tape delay) as a doubleheader on 9/18.But since Klitschko-Povetkin was pushed a week earlier to 9/11,they ain’t showing the fight.
